Revision as of 21:04, 2 July 2020

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Persistent sockpuppetry through dynamic IPs (see SPI) among disruptive edits by others. Have flared up due to a [[Template:In the news|recent attack. Asking PP for at least some months considering the socking disruption. Gotitbro (talk) 21:36, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked. The more recent IP self-reverted and appears to be editing constructively otherwise. Please make a new request (one page per request please!) if the block does not ease the disruption. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 17:44, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent addition of unsourced content. BOVINEBOY2008 23:05, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. The entire list is unsourced. I'm not going to use protection to say one set of unsourced edits is fine but a different set of unsourced edits is not. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 17:52, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: extremely active page with a large amount of IP vandalism. The sheer volume of edits is making it nearly impossible to police the IPs putting misleading or abusive material into the article. Horse Eye Jack (talk) 05:00, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. "A lot of IPs" is not disruptive, it's collaborative. I'm not seeing how these edits are disruptive. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 17:56, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary Semi-protection: High level Block Evasion from accounts/IPs banned and current accounts under investigation at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Leon103102. Coastie43 (talk) 12:42, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 18:55, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary Semi-protection: Recent high level of block evasion from IPs and current accounts under investigation at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Leon103102 . Coastie43 (talk) 12:56, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 18:56, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Nonsense edits changing genre, word capitalization, etc. This has been going on for months from IP editors. AldezD (talk) 13:11, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. This page was just put under pending changes protection a few days ago. I'm not seeing how the subsequently rejected edits are intentionally disruptive, rather than bold changes and very minor grammatical errors. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 18:59, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Thank you to restore semi protection to this article due to persistent vandalism and/or disruptive editing primarily by IP editors. Proposed duration: around 1 month. — kashmīrī TALK 14:01, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined - you're edit warring, Kashmiri, and you've already been warned to stop. Take your concerns to the talk page. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 19:06, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: The page is still being constantly changed from 'is a politician' to 'was a politician' by unregistered users without any supporting evidence being given. The page has been temporarily semi-protected before, yet the problem continues to occur and has been doing so for over six months. Helper201 (talk) 14:27, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. It is clear that nobody on the other side of this has ever bothered even attempting to discuss the issue of how she should be described since losing her political seat in 2017, and clearly there is appetite to change the description by the users you think are being disruptive. Maybe "politician" remains appropriate, maybe "campaigner" or "activist" would be more accurate, I don't know, my only point is there has been no discussion whatsoever. Protection declined. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 19:13, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: BLP policy violations – Ongoing WP:BLP violations by slew of SPAs, IPs. Loksmythe (talk) 15:19, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. Woody (talk) 19:24, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – In the immediate aftermath of reports of Cam Newton being hired by the Patriots, we're seeing a lot of anonymous edits adding him to the roster. The patriots have not yet carried out the transaction, so I'd like to request this be semi-protected for a couple of weeks for the paperwork to be shuffled. Tarl N. (discuss) 16:26, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Woody (talk) 19:25, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pending changes protection: Persistent edits and addition of unsourced content by users who are upset that the "Nashville Autonomous Zone" never became a thing. There was a page merger, and the users behind the original page are constantly adding unsourced material to the page, with the sourced material being used improperly for many false or far-fetched extrapolations off of the news articles that covered the TN protests. Monstarules (talk) 17:12, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. Woody (talk) 19:19, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Unconstructive WP:RECENT edits to the lede due to the Modi government's decision to ban WeChat, TikTok, et al. CaradhrasAiguo (leave language) 18:32, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Note that "WP:RECENT" or WP:BOLD edits do not in any way constitute vandalism. Woody (talk) 19:07, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Protection of more color pages

Semi-protection: Consistency with some other color pages like red, blue, green, white and purple.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Blockman9000 (talkcontribs) 18:39, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – No changes to the current protection level are required at this point in time. Those that need protected are protected, those that don't need to be aren't. We don't protect pre-emptively. Woody (talk) 18:54, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – All edits beginning the 26th have been vandalism or undoing of vandalism. SuperGoose007 (Honk!) 19:12, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Woody (talk) 19:26, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary Semi-protection: Recent level of block evasion from IPs from a Blocked User User:Maistara. See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Gala19000/Archive.

    Mr.User200 (talk) 19:39, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Full protection: Persistent vandalism and Unconstructive WP:RECENT edits. The edits to the article, specifically under the 'Criticism' section, seem to be politically motivated and the paragraph reads more like an opinion piece. The main source by the user making the edits is the National Post, which is a known Conservative publication, having endorsed the Conservative Party of Canada in past federal elections. The user also used a quote from a Conservative MP specifically, rather than referring to criticism by the opposition parties in general. Additionally, the section (and more in its original form, prior to my edit), attacks the Liberal Party of Canada, illustrating that the party provided the WE Charity with a contract and there being criticism around the party. However, no political party has the authority to issue a contract regarding a federal government program, and the criticism has been focused on the Trudeau family, not the party itself. I made an edit to the section but I feel any further edits to it would be pointless, as the user will very likely revert them. The section is primarily quotations with copied and pasted content from other sources, I had removed one sentence that was copied and pasted straight from a news article. Lastly, I would like to note that the user appears to be previously involved with edit warring, consistently reverting edits by others. 24.76.221.29 (talk) 19:43, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent Disruptive Editing. — Yours, Berrely • TalkContribs 19:49, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Multiple IP editors changing cause of death from suicide to murder. Schazjmd (talk) 20:01, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent problem with vandalism from IP editors. Tacyarg (talk) 20:07, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Ongoing hoaxes and vandalism. Various IPs arising after a recent hoaxing editor blocked. Nat Gertler (talk) 20:15, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Questionable edits being added to this page by what seem to be WP:SPAs. A week will probably be enough to figure out what's going on. Steel1943 (talk) 20:30, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Persistent disruption by dynamic IP socks of community banned user MariaJaydHicky. See also the log of prior protection, this disruption has been ongoing for months. Aoi (青い) (talk) 20:46, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Gross BLP violations and vandalism by IPs. Megan Barris (Lets talk📧) 21:04, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Lil Dicky was semi-protected back in 2019. Now that five years have passed, could the semi-protection be lifted? 174.93.89.27 (talk) 19:19, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection: Protection has been in place since April. Suggest unprotection for now, and if there are issues, pending-changes protection can be applied. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 18:49, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not done - this is not a decline, but given that many of the pages in this spectrum have been protected under general sanctions and many admins are following cues from other protected COVID-19 related pages, I think it would be best to discuss in a larger forum whether or not the protections should start to be lifted. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 19:22, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ivanvector, where should the larger forum be? On the talk page? While I understand that there can be misinformation surrounding COVID-19 that needs to be combated, this article is still very film-centric and more about how the industry has dealt with lack of people, rather than anything to do with the actual disease. Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
