A tag has been placed on Grandfield Lutheran Church, Sheyenne, ND, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Leuko 17:26, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Spirit Lake Casino

A tag has been placed on Spirit Lake Casino, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. License tagging for Image:Totten.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Totten.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 23:10, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Spirit Lake Casino

[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Spirit Lake Casino, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. Clicketyclack 08:24, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Happy to see a new member join WikiProject North Dakota! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. --MatthewUND(talk) 06:37, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I might also point out that you're going to want to be careful about creating articles for subjects of rather dubious notability. Within North Dakota, something like Central North Dakota Steam Thresher's Reunion might be notable enough for its own article, but that notability probably doesn't translate into being notable enough for its own article on here. --MatthewUND(talk) 06:39, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm very happy to have you aboard! I hope I didn't offend you be mentioning that it is best to create articles for only notable subjects. Like you, I love North Dakota and I would like to have articles for all sorts of things in the state which, in reality, really aren't all that notable outside of the state. We just have to remember that, in the end, an article about a non-notable subject is bound to eventually get deleted. Because of that, it's best not to waste our time working on articles which are destined for deletion. See you around! --MatthewUND(talk) 22:01, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The Log Cabin Museum, Sheyenne, ND article was speedily deleted after you, the main author of the page, requested that it be deleted. Answers to your questions

[edit]

First of all, you might want to take a lok at Talk:North Dakota State Bison football to see my response pertaining to the article's low importance rating. I hope that answers your question for the time being. Next, don't worry about what Google lists. Even though the article you're talking about has already been deleted, the Google database will probably take a while to realize that the article is gone. However, after a while, the link to the deleted article will no longer show up in Google. Lastly, about your question pertaining to bringing an article up to a higher class, that is done by thoughtful expansion and improvement of the article. One of the more important things that needs to be done in order for an article to have a higher rating is to make sure that the article is thoroughly sourced. If you have any further questions, you know where to find me. --MatthewUND(talk) 22:52, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Museum pic

[edit]

Unfortunately, on Wikipedia we are not able to use images that you find on an external website. Image:Museumfacingnorth.jpg was taken from http://www.rogermarismuseum.com/museum/. I've removed the image from The Roger Maris Museum article and listed the image at Wikipedia:Copyright problems. The result will probably be that the image will be deleted. I invite you to scan through Wikipedia:Copyrights to learn more about what types of images may and may not be used on Wikipedia. When in doubt, it is almost always better to use an image that you took yourself and that you've released into the public domain. --MatthewUND(talk) 01:35, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SPA

[edit]

I a member of the staff for Summer Performing Arts and Red River High School, so I have a vast knowledge of the subject, but I do not have the time right now to write an article. If you would like to start the article, go ahead. I will chip in my thoughts and such, and if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Just make sure you establish notablitiy (over 1000 students, 2004 stage directions techincal theatre grant award, etc). If you need any more ideas for notability, please leave a message on my talk page. I check my watchlist often. Thanks, -JWGreen 02:51, 31 August 2007 (UTC) (Jordan Green, Technical Staff, Grand Forks Public Schools)[reply]

I would think twice before making a SPA page. I'm not sure that other users would feel the group was notable enough for an article. Keep the Faith would probably be the one and only thing that might make it notable enough for an article, but even that is pushing it. --MatthewUND(talk) 05:18, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

---North Dakota articles on Main Page---
This past month, two new North Dakota-related articles appeared in the Main Page's "Did you know?" section. The articles were Zip to Zap and Climate of North Dakota. Congratulations to the creators of these articles — it's always exciting to see North Dakota articles on Wikipedia's Main Page. A request has also recently been made to make Grand Forks, North Dakota a Featured Article of the day.

---Active members and inactive members---
In an effort to more accurately gauge just how large WPND is, the WPND members list has been split into an active and inactive list. If you have not made an edit to a North Dakota-related page within the last three months, you are moved to the inactive list and do not receive the WPND newsletter. If you disagree with moving members to an inactive list, please share your thoughts at the WPND talk page.

---New administrator---
WPND member MatthewUND (talk · contribs) was recently promoted to Administrator status. That means that he has been granted the use of special tools so he can take care of housekeeping tasks such as blocking disruptive users, protecting pages, deleting pages, and quickly reverting edits to pages. It has been mentioned in the past that WPND was in need of an administrator. With MatthewUND's promotion, that is now a reality. Please contact MatthewUND if you are ever in need of an administrator's help.

News
---Article deletions---
A series of deletions of North Dakota articles this past month is a good reminder that we need to be careful when creating new articles. Before creating any article, it is a good idea to 1) check out Wikipedia:Notability to see if the subject deserves an article and 2) make sure that worthwhile sources can be found pertaining to the subject and are effectively used to cite the article. Often, instead of simply creating a brand new stub article for a subject, it is a good idea to expand an existing article that in some way can address the subject.

---Peer reviews---
The University of North Dakota and North Dakota State University articles are currently up for peer review. Please take a moment to visit UND's peer review and NDSU's peer review. Read through the articles and then share your opinions of where the articles currently stand and how they might be improved. Peer review is often a step in the process of getting articles to Good Article or Featured Article status. As a WikiProject, we are very much in need of more GA or FA class articles.

Housekeeping
---Mandan demoted---
After a review, the Mandan tribe article is no longer considered Featured Article class. This is a reminder that even after articles have made it all the way to FA class, it is always possible for them to lose that designation. This also means that WPND is down to one FA class article.

Thanks for uploading Image:Bison Alternative Logo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 11:03, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

---UND article upgraded---
The University of North Dakota article was recently upgraded to "good article" status. This brings WPND up to two good articles and one featured article. We should work on bringing other North Dakota articles up to a higher status. Look in Category:Top-importance North Dakota articles for articles to work on improving. It would be great to get the main North Dakota article to GA or FA class in the near future. There are also a number of other articles which are close to GA status already...a little work will make them ready for that designation.

---Assessing article importance---
Work continues on assessing the "importance" of all articles that fall under the banner of WPND. Currently, around a third of all articles have been rated for importance.

---A new "Good Article"---
WPND now has another new good article: 1997 Red River Flood in the United States. This article was recently split off from the 1997 Red River flood article. Much of the credit for this article's promotion should go to Nehrams2020 (talk · contribs).

---Let's improve our main article---
For a WikiProject whose focus is the state of North Dakota, there is likely no article that should be more important to us than the North Dakota article itself. We should work on improving this article to at the very least good article status and ideally featured article status.

---UND on the Main Page?---
The University of North Dakota article is currently listed as a good article. Given UND's 125th anniversary ([1]), perhaps we should think about improving this article to featured status so it could potentially be the article of the day in February when the event is officially observed.

Your source(s) for Rock Township

[edit]

I've been reviewing your contributions to Rock Township, and they are missing reliable, verifiable sources per WP:VERIFIABILITY and WP:Reliable sources. I am working on populating articles for all of the townships in North Dakota, and think your contributions will fit well. However, in order to clean up the article to meet Wikipedia standards, could you please provide what source or sources you used for the history information in the article, such as a website or which particular book you used. If the information is based on your personal knowledge of the township, that is OK to a point, but to avoid the prohibition on original research, it needs to be verified by some other source as well. If the information cannot be verified by a reliable source, it may have to be deleted. I have access to a number of historical documents through the State Library here in Bismarck, and would like to help improve and provide proper citations for the article. Please respond here or on my talk page with the information.DCmacnut<> 01:05, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just did a quick check with the ND state library site and ODIN catalog, and that particular book does not seem to be available in any library in the state. Google Books also doesn't pull it up. However, I would take you at your word that the text came from that source. It should be sufficient to just add that source to the article. Thanks for the response.DCmacnut<> 20:29, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all your work on that article, it's one of the best I've seen on a small town. I'd like to nominate it for Good Article status, do you think you could help out by adding some citations? The intro and history parts, for example. Thanks! --AW (talk) 06:38, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
