[edit]

Hi, I forgot to include the fact that he was the first (or on eof the first, info isnt quite clear) convicts to be released from a life sentence after less than 5 years. Is this acceptable? And by the way, Family History does not interest me, I just wanted to put some convict stuff in. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Frogskin9 (talkcontribs).

Fair enough. It looked like a family history thing to me, given the amount of family information including links for articles about other family members. I'm all for more convict stuff. As far as the early pardon goes, I'm not sure that alone counts as notable but I'm happy to leave that to others to decide. Was he granted a conditional pardon in 1824 or a ticket of leave? Hi, I see your writing articles on Canberra suburbs, could you please tag them with canberra suburb stub so they are easy to keep track of. Also you might want to check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Canberra. --nixie 01:58, 31 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi, I was just wondering if you were using a rollback button and if it has been giving you trouble of recent. If you do use the rollback button, does the URL bar have something that says &fakeaction=rollback or does it say &action=rollback? --Jay (Reply) 21:45, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Jay. I haven't been using the rollback feature as I don't have admin status, sadly. I'm new to vandalism reversions and have only been doing them for the last couple of weeks. If you have any suggestions or advice about how to make the process easier I'd appreciate your comments. - Gimboid13 21:59, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The revert you performed unfortunately rolled back to another version that had been vandalised - remember to check after the revert that that hasn't happened. If it does, perform a manual revert to the last clean version. Thanks. haz (user talk) 11:17, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Haza-w. Maybe its just me but I'm noticing more and more instances when there are 2 different IP addresses vandalising the same article in succession. I've been checking but obviously missed that one. It still needed a further edit to get it back to a clean version. Gimboid13 11:29, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

dude, calm down

[edit]

Hey dude, Bitburg High School is not your school and you shouldn't try to control what people say about it. The reason people adding to articles like that is just for fun. If you had ever actually been to Bitburg High School, you would know that they were just kidding. So what if what is said is "trivial" or doesn't matter. There is good content in there and it isn't like tons of people are running around trying to find information about the teachers from BHS. Plus, what they said is true and doesn't really matter anyway. Just calm down and ignore whatever happens to the BHS site, or maybe

== Add comment about merger for you could go there yourself so you can make an "educated" decision on what to say about BHS.

Hi there and thanks for your comments. Information added to Wikipedia must be factual and verifiable. Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not is a good reference to what is and isn't OK. In addition there are guidelines about the level of notability required before a person should be the subject of an article (or reference in an article). See Wikipedia:Notability_(people). You're more than welcome to contribute to Wikipedia but please add only information that you'd reasonably expect to appear in an encyclopedia article.
One more thing, please sign your posts (on talk pages, for example) by using the '~' symbol. To insert just your IP address or name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your IP address or name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes). - Gimboid13 06:49, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I have been thinking about starting Neville Fletcher (who is a visiting fellow here a the ANU) and noticed your aritcle on TUNE! FM mentions him. I think his work as a scientist is notable and he deserves an article. I didn't know about his part in helping establish Armidale's youth radio station, it's amazing how much info there is on this funny little website of ours ;) --Martyman-(talk) 22:59, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reply re: revert of Aid and Rescue Committee

[edit]

Thanks for explaining (and restoring :-) -- and especially that you replied both on my User Talk page and the article's discussion page.

I'm still in my first month editing here, and whenever someone's edited my changes I make an effort to understand the rationale and have yet to challenge any of it. This being the first revert of my editing, of course I paid special attention -- and enquired only because I really couldn't understand the point (but feared the worst :-o Cheers, Deborahjay 07:36, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(Text of initial comment here:)

I just noted that you -- with no discussion or explanation -- reverted three edits I made to the Aid and Rescue Committee article.
 • int. link for Hashomer Hatzair
 • + Jewish-hist-stub
 • copyedit: Hansi Brand (Joel Brand's wife); for Hansi Brand, Joel Brand's wife;
(The copyedit was intended for disambiguation as anyone missing the comma/semicolon might misread this as two different people)
My understanding is that a revert is done to repair damage to an article. So what do you consider damaging in what I did? (crossposted to the article's Talk page) Deborahjay 06:15, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your contributions to the article Australian International School Hong Kong. I removed the paragraphs about term dates and class times because I considered them to be of interest only to people with a close association with the school. The sentence about the number of terms per year is really quite sufficient.

I have uploaded a couple of new pics of the Bathurst Courthouse. Yass article

[edit]

Gimboid 13,

A gentle warning: Deleting work on a page without clear explanation is (according to me and several other Yass Wikipedians) Unquestionably uneeded.

Deleting the External Links on the Yass article must be looked in to and discussed with its creator (myself). Nathan Furry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.167.54.242 (talkcontribs)

Are you referring to this edit? If so, please refer to the edit summary. As I mentioned, Wikipedia is not a link repository. Please see the Wikipedia style manual entry for External links. Gimboid13 09:34, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
According to these rules, it would have to be determined by an admin whether or not the links are considered as link repositories. Some of these pages however did look into more of Yass History. In this case, It should be highly noted that deletion may not of been neccessary for some links.59.167.54.242 09:54, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you consider they meet the criteria in the style manual then, by all means, add them back in. Admin intervention is unnecessary. Anyone can add or delete content. That's how Wikipedia works. Of course there are some general rules, like the style manual, but as long as your work broadly adheres to those it stands a good chance of being retained. Niddrie Secondary College

Excuse me but why did you change the Niddrie Secondary College wikipedia page? The previous page was much more detailed and better. why did you change it??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jane 01 (talkcontribs)

According to discussion on Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools (now at Archive 2) the convention for inclusion of information about school staff is much the same as that for notable alumni. Administration (headmaster/principal) type staff can be named, but otherwise, they should only be included if they have their own article or if they meet WP:BIO requirements.
Street addresses, phone numbers and email addresses are unnecessary. It's an encyclopedia, not a directory. Gimboid13 09:58, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A request for assistance

[edit]

Would you support the concept of moving the Earhart "myths" to a separate page or article? The reason for my suggesting this is that the main article should be an accurate and scholarly work while the speculation and conspiracy theories surrounding the disappearance of Amelia Earhart are interesting, they belong in a unique section. Most researchers, as you know, discount the many theories and speculation that has arisen in the years following her last flight. Go onto the Earhart discussion page and register your vote/comments...and a Happy New Year to you as well. Bzuk 05:02 3 January 2007 (UTC).

Hello Wayne. Take a look at Wikipedia:External_links, particularly the sections Links normally to be avoided and Advertising and conflicts of interest. Does anything there apply to http://www.dubbo.org? Gimboid13 09:19, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes Gimbold, I checked this out and It *IS* a conflict of interest. I did place a link to my own site, (12 months ago) I didn't realise there was policy not to do this. Thanks, it could have been a bit embarrassing if I continued down that line.
Anyway, I just put an apology on the talk page. And a note:
I will leave the link off this site if, but I do think it provides unique information on Dubbo. I'll leave it for someone else to put the dubbo.org link on under links if they think it adds to the Dubbo page.
Someone is editing the talk page and they removing my above comments from there. I reverted these.

Niddrie Secondary College

[edit]

I thought that the idea of wikipedia was to inform and educate! You have changed the article so much that there is little information on it at all. The information i added (about the chnaged occuring by 2008) was information that is necessary and informs the reader more about the school, why do you continue to delete it? Contact details are necessary and have been included in English High School of Boston article. (Jane 01 04:16, 4 February 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Thanks for replying Jane. I hope we can sort this out without resorting to edit wars.
Do you mean English High School of Boston? I can see nothing I'd call contact details there. In any case, an isolated example does not define the policy which, as I've already explained, is spelt out at What Wikipedia is not. In short, Wikipedia is not a directory. Wikipedia is not the white pages. Wikipedia is not the yellow pages. Street addresses and phone numbers should not be included. The external link provides more than adequate contact information.
Do you really think I've changed the article so much that there's little left? I've removed some statements of the obvious, like 'it offers a range of subjects' and some trivial information that might be worth mentioning in a school newsletter, but not an encyclopedia article. Have you read WikiProject Schools which lists recommended content for schools articles? Gimboid13 11:36, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Information such as: "Since then it has undergone many transformations; such as name and uniform changes" is the history of the school, which should be included, and i'm sure that would not be found in a newsletter!
Also general information about the school needs to be included, any good article would have the history of the school, the current way the school is, and future changes that are to be made such as: the 2008 changes at NSC.
You wrote "Niddrie Secondary College Niddrie, Victoria, Australia" at the start, how is that not contact details, it clearly says where the school is located. In fact i could even go as far as saying that the above is insufficient information, and that more accurate contact details need to be placed in, people reading an article need to know where and how they can contact the school and by adding that in the article means not only that wikipedia contains more information but that they do not need to access the school's website to contact them.
I am asking that you allow me to write an accurate and detailed article about niddrie sc, i will include information that i feel is required, is it OK if i write it and replace the current article with it and can you leave it there long enough so wikipedians can see how much improved my version of the article is?
Kind Regards, (Jane 01 09:03, 6 February 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Hi Jane. I agree that the history of the school, including name changes, is relevant but the number of lockers and uniform changes are really a bit too trivial for an encyclopedia article. Most school articles have the town or suburb in which the school is located. By contact information I mean street addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, etc. If you were wanting to contact the school you'd go to the phone book or other directory, not an encyclopedia. The article should be written for a worldwide audience, not just people wanting to ring them up or drop in. It needs to describe what makes the school notable, like the sort of information at WikiProject Schools. That said, I'm happy enough to leave the article alone for a couple of weeks. Hi Gimboid13, I notice that you have uploaded an image on Wikipedia and linked that image to Culcairn. A number of editors are currently attempting to catalogue a full list of images on commons at Towns of the Riverina, New South Wales and your image would be a great addition to that catalogue. If you are willing could you please upload your image to Commons (unless you already have) and then link it to the town page that it relates to? You will need an account at Commons to do this. If you need any help please just ask and I will be happy to assist where I can. --VS talk...images 21:01, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi VirtualSteve. I've uploaded Image:Culcairn_courthouse.jpg to Commons and placed a NowCommons tag on the original. Not sure if I need to do anything further. Can you advise please? Gimboid13 02:20, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's great Gimboid13 - I have recategorised it to Category:Court houses in the Riverina and put a link to the picture here - please take a look at C - Culcairn (you will note that there are now 2 images in commons for this location and you can see them both by clicking on Culcairn in the left hand column. If you have any other photos of towns and localities in the Riverina we would be happy to see you include them in the same format anywhere on this image list. --VS talk...images 07:45, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 • Nice picture of Holbrook court house uploaded to commons. Its great to have another photographer involved. I have gone in and given that pic a categorisation of Court houses in the Riverina also. If you wish to put other pics up the following list is our current Riverina specific categorisation group which I hope will be of help to you:
 1.
 2.
 3.
 4.
 5.

May I direct you to this page that clearly has more than one link to it's many areas within the University Faculty?

Uni of Alberta on Wikipedia

"One link is enough" does not seem to be the policy for this University. The information on the Charles Sturt University page is currently being reviewed as it is old copy and needs updating. I do hope we aren't going to run into problems such as this when the time comes to review the page.

Hello Csu arts. Good to see you're doing some work on the CSU article. Keep up the good work. On the subject of external links, Wikipedia has a policy of keeeping external links to a minimum. Please see the Wikipedia:Manual of Style page Wikipedia:External links, "Try to avoid linking to multiple pages from the same website; instead, try to find an appropriate linking page within the site." Gimboid13 19:42, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem Gimboid - and thanks very much. It's a little difficult for a newbie to get around the policies and guidelines on occasion so I'm trying to be very straight to the point and only link up our relevant Faculty sections and will not overdo it as I do understand that Wikipedia is for general public information and not to be used as a link-farm for websites.

Thanks again for your support and please do advise me of any oversights as I appreciate the guidance you can offer. I'm still learning my way around but hope to get the CSU page and subsequent Faculty of Arts relevant sections updated to only include info that is to the point and relevant for reference by interested viewers. Cheers

Re: Sockpuppet

[edit]

Hi, i'm sorry but would you beable to tell me how i can respond to your false allegations and to tell my side of the story. I've read the notes for suspect however they were not clear can you give me step-by-step instructions.

Thanks, (Spencer 02 05:09, 2 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]

As the notice on your userpage says, go to Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Bradles 01 (3rd) and add any response you have there. Gimboid13 05:37, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No you don't understand, i have gone to that page but how do i leave a response, it it just through editing, like a new paragraph or what??
(Spencer 02 05:40, 2 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Add whatever you think is necessary. The paragraph you've added looks like as good a format as any. I don't think it's reasonable to say I refused to help. And you shouldn't remove the sockpuppet notice from your userpage until the issue is decided. Gimboid13 07:20, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry forgot to sign in, I was under the impression that if the evidence was insufficient (which it is) i could remove the notice. By the way, if the conclusion of this case is in my favour am i then able to create Sports trainer article without any problems? As there is no reason for it to not be included in the articles. (Spencer 02 01:40, 3 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]
According to the sockpuppet notice "If the accuser has listed evidence against you, you are not allowed to remove the notice from your page for ten days." There's no restriction on you creating any article you like. Of course any contributions will be edited to comply with Wikipedia's policies and style guidelines. [edit]

I am really disappointed that you have opened this sockpuppet case. Can't you just accept the fact that i have one same interest as another user? Why is this so hard for you to come to terms with? Did you take a look at the sports trainer article before it was deleted? It is the only reason i created an account was to re-create it, there was nothing wrong with it at all and it improved wikipedia. Okay, you think i'm no good, i won't do it, you re-create sports trainer, you re-create the article if it will make you happy, it just deserves to be on wikipedia. I can send you (by email) the content if your unsure of what to put in it. You re-create it if it will make you happy, and if you re-create it i will cancel my account, i just want the article to be on wikipedia. The idea of wikipedia is to inform, adding sports trainer help to further inform people. Are you happy with what i have asked? (Spencer 02 06:21, 4 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]

DEFAULTSORT

[edit]

The with a colon is not a template, but rather something called a "magic word". See that help file for some of it, and Wikipedia talk:Categorization and the project page.

I think somebody created a template (the vertical bar version) at first just to inform people of what the magic word was, and then probably made it work by incorporating the magic word but it is better to use the magic word directly. There is a link in the listings below the edit screen that will put it on the page with the cursor placed for entering the sort key, something that you might find useful (one of the things I like about it is that it mostly prevents the formatting errors I might otherwise make, not only transposition or capitalization errors--the magic word is case sensitive, must be all caps--but also other things such as forgetting to close it off or closing it off with square brackets rather than curly ones). Attention

[edit]

Hi, this is Bradles 01, i have returned as another sock! But don't worry i am over wikipedia and i have only created this account to inform you of that. I have decided that wikipedia is not my thing, too many nerds like you editing! A couple of things before i go:

 • Do me a favour and don't edit comments on my talk page. It is my talk page, not yours so do not 'restore' discussions if i have deleted them, you have no right to do that. If you alter my discussion page again i will be reporting you!

If all of you computer nerds don't want a Sports Trainer article well it is your loss, i have created my own website about sports trainers for normal people to view. I will also be making sure that i inform all of my friends that wikipedia is not a good site and that every user on it are so stupid that they can't see the difference between a Sports Trainer and an athletic trainer and that they are also rude and disruptive.

I think that this account (David 01) will probably be blocked within about three minutes of me posting this message, as you do not have a life and all that is in your life is wikipedia (but you're not the only one, other users are like that too). It's funny because you're not even getting paid for your edits on wikipedia, so it really is because you have nothing better to do!

Prod summaries

[edit]

Just a friendly reminder to use an edit summary when proposing deletion for an article. Edit summary usage is always good, but it is especially important that edit summaries are used when proposing deletion. The reason for this is that articles proposed for deletion that later have the prod tag removed should not be proposed for deletion again, but rather sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. The only easy way to check if an article was previously proposed for deletion is to look at the edit history and the edit summaries people have left before. Thanks! Oo7565 01:39, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Oo7565. I've been doing some categorisation recently and have been adding prod templates and making other appropriate edits to previously uncategorised articles along the way. I've mostly just used the standard categorisation edit summary (Categorizing article - You can help!) but I can see the benefit of adding a 'prod' tag to that as well where appropriate. I'll do that in future. By the way, if you're using your prod-summary template to suggest a more descriptive edit summary rather than just cases with no edit summary at all, could I suggest you add some suitable words to cover those cases? Thanks also. Your article is correct. The mountain is Tennent but the bushranger is Tennant. Were you planning on starting an article about the bushranger? Fair use rationale for Image:Radio that bites.gif

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Radio that bites.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Hi Golden Wattle. Noticed your referencing work on the Gary Nairn article. Most, if not all, of the last three para of the article seem to be to be quite tangential to the subject. Wikipedia policy at WP:NOT#NEWS looks to be be relevant here and I think those paras should probably go before the article becomes a magnet for party hacks (if it hasn't already). What do you think? Gimboid13 08:16, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

I don't like the lack of balance to the articel and had raised that issue some time ago at AWNB. However, I don't think the material is tangential to the subject. The latest issue with Nairn's Cheif of Staff got a lot of coverage on PM (not just one day) and raises some serious issues. The April Fool's hoax is also an interesting issue. The references meet WP:RS. I don't think it is in breach of WP:NOT#NEWS any more than many other articles about Australian politicians are - see for example the Kevin Andrews article. This is not day by day reporting but the last 3 pras contina reference to a 1996 speech, a hoax in 2005 and 2006 and inappropriate behaviour by his member of staff against another candidate in 2007 - I don't think that could be said to

WPNOTnews says News reports. Wikipedia considers the historical notability of persons and events, while keeping in mind the harm our work might cause. Someone or something that has been in the news for a brief period is not necessarily a suitable subject for an article in their own right. - Nairn is most certainly eligible for his own article ...Routine news coverage and matters lacking encyclopedic substance, such as announcements, sports, gossip, and tabloid journalism, are not sufficient basis for an article. News outlets are reliable secondary sources when they practice competent journalistic reporting, however, and topics in the news may also be encyclopedic subjects when the sources are substantial. Timely news subjects not suitable for Wikipedia may be suitable for Wikinews - I don't think the matters raised are routine news coverage or gossip - they have more substance. I also believe they do not breach WP:BLP.

As they are referenced according to WP policies for reliable sources I think the facts should stay. Regards --Golden Wattle talk 14:17, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Doctor Poo badge.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Doctor Poo badge.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Aunty Jack Show and Tell.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Aunty Jack Show and Tell.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:13, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Possible removal of AWB access due to inactivity

[edit]

Hello! There is currently a request for approval of a bot to manage the AutoWikiBrowser CheckPage by removing inactive users, among other tasks. You are being contacted because you may qualify as an inactive user of AWB. First, if you have any input on the proposed bot task, please feel free to comment at the BRFA. Should the bot task be approved, your access to AWB may be uncontroversially removed if you do not resume editing within a week's time. This is purely for routine maintenance of the CheckPage, and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You will be able regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 23:36, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
