License tagging for Image:Hotshot1stPic.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Hotshot1stPic.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 21:07, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Dario Franchitti.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Duplicate images uploaded

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:F-16 Falcon.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:F-16 Falcon2.jpg. The copy called Image:F-16 Falcon2.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 04:45, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

False license tagging/image source

[edit]

Please do not intentionally incorrectly tag images, as you have done with Image:TD Barry.jpg and Image:Andrea's Smoke.jpg. Please use the correct license tag. These image are clearly not created by you, and are NASA/NOAA images, so you cannot use {{PD-self}}. Future violations might warrant a block, so please take more care when license-tagging images.

Furthermore, while the image is clearly from NASA/NOAA, you need to link to the URL of the page you got it from. Chacor 05:20, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I notice that you have similarly uploaded a lot of images. Please check them all and correctly tag them or you WILL be blocked from editing. Chacor 05:25, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All you have to do is click on your contributions, [1], and click on the images you uploaded. Change the licenses to an appropriate one, and add a link to the source of the image. Chacor 05:30, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To clarify - you can ONLY use {{PD-self}} on images that YOU have taken yourself, and they must not be screenshots off a website or TV (which are fair-use). Chacor 05:34, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, how about this... Give me five minutes. I'll list all the images you have uploaded, you tell me where they came from, okay? Chacor 05:35, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What you need to do is either tell me the website address you got the images from, or if you took them yourself. Chacor 05:43, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't lie. That only shows you have something to hide and will only decrease the amount of good faith people have in you. It's quite obvious because of all the differing image resolutions... one camera should end up with all the images being the same resolution... Given that I am taking time out of my busy schedule, and that I could easily just ask the admins to handle it, I'd appreciate it if you were frank with me. Chacor 05:49, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I will trust you on that. But if someone else finds the image elsewhere copyrighted, please understand you could be blocked. You need to give the images better names next time, too. Generic names like "IMG 0764" don't help. I will post this to the admin board and ask someone to double-check the images, is that okay with you? Chacor 05:57, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have posted the notice. For now, I would suggest that you avoid uploading new images (due to this) - once it's determined/confirmed that all's good, I'm sure you'll be more than welcome to continue adding your images if they help wikipedia. Thanks. Chacor 06:07, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An image that you uploaded, Image:Al Unser.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems because it is a suspected copyright violation. Please look there if you know that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), and then provide the necessary information there and on its page, if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Royalbroil 12:21, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You cannot upload images from cards. You need to take a picture yourself before you can assign copyright, otherwise you do not own it's copyright. Royalbroil 12:21, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that unfortunately counts as copyright infringment. Almost every racing article would have an image if it didn't! You can have it speedy deleted by adding {{db-author}} on the image. See WP:COPY#Image_guidelines. Royalbroil 15:54, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Scanning, that is, copying something like this that is copyrighted, does not remove the copyright such that you can release the result into the public domain! 74.233.164.129 (talk) 03:33, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

file names and cropping

[edit]

Thank you for recently adding images to wikipedia, but for wide angle shots, please consider cropping them before uploading. In addition, be sure to use descriptive file names (Such as RaphaelMatos2008.JPG) rather than the ones that come out of your camera (such as DSCN1290.JPG). Also, make sure to specify the correct copyright status for your images. Not doing so will cause them to be deleted. -Drdisque (talk) 00:53, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Hi Chrisg21090!
We thank you for uploading Image:DSC00570B.JPG, but there is a problem. Your image is currently missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Unless you can help by adding a copyright tag, it may be deleted by an Administrator. If you know this information, then we urge you to add a copyright tag to the image description page. We apologize for this, but all images must confirm to policy on Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks so much for your cooperation.

Unspecified source for Image:Tall Steam Devil.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tall Steam Devil.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 17:50, 13 July 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 17:50, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
