idioms

[edit]

Here is an idiom source you can use to update the citations, a simple google search will also yield sources. --UnQuébécois (talk) 19:52, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I asked for help with the task, not for a lesson on how to look them up. I have done virtually all the ones moved from the list up to the table. Doing it right is time consuming. In my opinion it takes more than a simple google search. Why don't you try capturing the history of the phrase and develop a meaningful definition instead of using the ones already given, they are too short and some of them are just wrong. Along the way you might learn a little of the history behind the phrase which can be added as a note. So, this is the nature of the help I am asking for.
BTW if you don't fix the two you added I will demote them back to the list them. -- Cdw ♥'s(talk) 04:08, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have some sort of objection to listing things in alphabetical order? A couple of days ago, I went to the trouble of rearranging the list of closed programs at Aspen Education Group in order to place it in alphabetical order, and now I see that you scrambled that list and the formerly alphabetized list of active programs. Why???? --Orlady (talk) 14:16, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I listed them in the order of closure, since that is the title of the section I thought it best. BTW we seem to work on some of the same articles maybe we could collaborate? Thank you fro all the fine work you do. -- Cdw ♥'s(talk) 14:50, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Help Survey

[edit]

Hi there, my name's Peter Coombe and I'm a Wikimedia Community Fellow working on a project to improve Wikipedia's help system. At the moment I'm trying to learn more about how people use and find the current help pages. If you could help by filling out this brief survey about your experiences, I'd be very grateful. It should take less than 10 minutes, and your responses will not be tied to your username in any way. Thank you for your time, the wub (talk) 18:08, 14 June 2012 (UTC) (Delivered using Global message delivery)[reply]

Dear Author/Cdw1952

My name is Nuša Farič and I am a Health Psychology MSc student at the University College London (UCL). I am currently running a quantitative study entitled Who edits health-related Wikipedia pages and Why? I am interested in the editorial experience of people who edit health-related Wikipedia pages. I am interested to learn more about the authors of health-related pages on Wikipedia and what motivations they have for doing so. I am currently contacting the authors of randomly selected articles and I noticed that someone at this address recently edited an article on Psychotherapy. I would like to ask you a few questions about you and your experience of editing the above mentioned article and or other health-related articles. If you would like more information about the project, please visit my user page (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Hydra_Rain) and if interested, please reply via my talk page or e-mail me on nusa.faric.11@ucl.ac.uk. Also, others interested in the study may contact me! If I do not hear back from you I will not contact this account again. Thank you very much in advance. You made this assertion on a talk page of an article about a work by F. Engels. Does that mean that the Declaration of Independence is poorly written as that is the first word of that iconic document? "When in the course of human events . . ." Tom Cod (talk) 18:43, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:NWAC logo.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:NWAC logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:03, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jason Anderson (motorcyclist) moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Jason Anderson (motorcyclist), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please follow the confirms on the Articles for Creation template atop the page. AfC submission, Jason Anderson (motorcyclist)

[edit]

Greetings. I am here to talk about your submission. There are some unjust misconceptions that I must debunk here. Just because the article is brief does not make the story any less noteworthy. It is true. Notability of a subject is established by the sources. But your sources are not good reliable ones. Read: WP:RS.

For reliable sourcing, you should go for: major newspaper, a factual, widely-published book, high-quality generally trusted mainstream publications. The sources must also be independent. Nothing written by the subject, paid for by the subject, or affiliated with the subject. Not their website, and not a press release. The sources you inserted are all bike racing related websites. By citing independent sources would be (for example) inserting a local newspaper article about Jason. Moreover, it is best for references to have significant coverage about the subject. Not passing mentions, not directory listings. And, no user-generated content like blogs, MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, fansites, Twitter, wikis. Cheers. If any question persist, do ping me or contact the AfC Helpdesk, link embedded on your declination banner. EROS message 11:29, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you for the advice. I have added citations by Andrew Krammer, Chase Stallo and Dan Lamb all of publications that appear both in print and online forms as well as an article from Fox Sports. Publications such as RaceX have an online presence as well as print magazines and cover all aspects of motorcycling not just Supercross. I think you will find that the current state of the draft article meets the requirements for WP:RS as well as notability WP:notability#SUSTAINED. While the original draft of the article relied on the "Jason Anderson 21 - Career Accolades" piece presented on supercrosslive.com, that information is now corroboration for the Minneapolis Star Tribune piece by Andrew Krammer published April 14, 2018. In that article the Mr. Krammer establishes the notability of Jason Anderson and the likelihood that he will be the next AMA Supercross Champion. -- Cdw ♥'s(talk) 22:00, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Are you going to reject it if I resubmit? -- Cdw ♥'s(talk) 14:47, 18 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Dear cdw1952, it was User:Dial911 who moved the page from mainspace into afc. (Please look at your page's history) I was just a reviewer, and I don't move pages. And the sources for your submission is still lacking. Do read the guidelines, read this WP:RS. Wikipedia needs in-depth sources. Source #2 and #4 are good sources, fox and tribune. For #7 and #8, they are not even articles. Thus, must be improved. #3 isn't a good source either, supercrosslive is just a biography, not an article too. Sources are deemed reliable by the quality of it, and not who wrote/published it. Try to get more sources like fox, tribunes, and other newspaper posts if you can. EROS message 03:08, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
cdw1952, Mainspace BLPs that don't have any reliable references would be moved to draft space by me so that author can work on it. This article didn't have any reference when I checked. And thus, it was incubated into draft. Hope you got the point. Thanks! Dial911 (talk) 03:45, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Kennedy Meadows (Tuolumne) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This is acampground and trailhead, not community. Notability not established with substantive sources

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. An article you recently created, Brad Freeman (motorcycle racer), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Steve Holcombe, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page British. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

The article was waiting for incorporation into main space. It is adequately sourced as evidenced by other articles. See Bultaco, Beta (motorcycle manufacturer) to name a few. Control copyright icon Hello Cdw1952! Your additions to Final Cut Pro have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 06:12, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
