Making resource materials available for common use

[edit]

The ongoing outreach activities could have a larger impact. The materials that have been already put together for the purpose of the meetups could have greater implication and could be made available under the scope of meta:Wikipedia Welcomes Medical Students, a prototype that I am trying to put together for similar outreach events that practically anyone can organize at their own institute. It is no use re-inventing the wheel everytime. I would therefore require your cooperation in preparing the prototype. Diptanshu 💬 17:46, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Program records prior to 2016

[edit]

Prior to 2016 Wikipedia tracked class participation with the Wikipedia:Education Program extension. This was experimental pilot software which had some security problems. In 2016 there was a switch to the meta:Programs & Events Dashboard. In 2018 the Wikimedia Foundation deprecated the old extension, removed its records from English Wikipedia, and archived the information. It is possible to access the archives but it would take some database navigation.

Icahn School of Medicine was among the first schools to engage in Wikipedia editing among students. It might have even been the most active prior to 2016, and if it was not the most active in general, it was the most active of any health science program and among the most active in general. I regret that I do not have ready access to the early records and that they are in the archives. I cannot quickly pull them out. If anyone ever wants to chase down this information then here are details -
