Status
I understand we're having problems with the status issue but Xenocidic recommended using User:TheDJ/Qui which works a treat. ——RyanLupin • (talk) 08:31, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- And indeed we are going to. Now that Qui is compatible with IE, we'll get this set up, it'll just take a bit of time. Useight (talk) 14:46, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Status is now up and running
Okay, ladies and gentlemen, I'm happy to announce that the realtime status is back in action. Thanks to TheDJ getting Qui compatible with Internet Explorer and his, Cobi's and Xenocidic's work tweaking HAU, we have a method that will hopefully last longer than Status Bot. In order to get yours working, follow the instructions at WP:QUI. It requires that you paste a line of code into your monobook. After doing so, a small circle will appear at the upper-right corner of your screen. You can use this circle to change your status and it will be automatically updated at HAU. Useight (talk) 21:47, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- Should I spam a notice of the same to HAU participant user talk pages? –xenocidic (talk) 17:21, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- I was hoping that most participants would see the message here, but it seems that wasn't the case (as most entries still list "Unknown"). It'd probably be a good idea for one of us to do that. If you're too busy, I can send out the messages, but if you're going to use AWB, that'd be faster than me doing it manually. But either way. Useight (talk) 17:31, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I actually got a bot approved today and part of the motivation was to complete this task. –xenocidic (talk) 17:36, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Already approved, huh? Nice. I just saw the request for name change at WP:CHU earlier. Useight (talk) 17:45, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yea, I was surprised at how quickly it got approved. I guess because it's a pretty simple task that I've done before (albeit manually). –xenocidic (talk) 17:50, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Well that's perfect then. Go ahead and have the bot send out the messages and then hopefully HAU will be back to its former glory (if it had any). Useight (talk) 18:43, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Will do, as soon as the bot gets its flag. –xenocidic (talk) 18:44, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

That's very different from Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Diligent Terrier Bot, where I requested the same exact thing, and there was a long discussion along with a trial. - Diligent Terrier (and friends) 19:44, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Well, it's about time we get a status up. ;) -- RyRy (talk) 20:21, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- I looked at that BRFA, DT... as to why it was lengthy- that's a can of worms I don't really want to open. But I gather mine was quickly approved without a trial because I've already done it using the click-72-times-manually method =). –xenocidic (talk) 20:36, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
It's not showing up on HAU for me after loading it up. Wizardman 20:38, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- It appears we had to flag users who were previously using their Special:Mypage/Status as something other than a one-word status indicator. I've cleared your flag. –xenocidic (talk) 20:46, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- OK, the PSA has been delivered. –xenocidic (talk) 23:26, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
This isn't up and running at all...for users who don't like to use scripts. Not so great work on the universality of the status solution guys. VanTucky 23:46, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- There's only so much we can do. Useight (talk) 00:03, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- You could always manually update your /Status page... We tried to find a good number of other solutions including a "last edit uservar" and a "status bot that didn't edit quite so much" but the devs shot both of those ideas down =( –xenocidic (talk) 00:18, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Qui does'nt appear to work with Firefox 3
Qui does'nt appear to work with Firefox 3. I Created my js monobook page and then I pasted the Script into it as instructed and then cleared my cache by holding down Ctrl+Reload at the same time. If this can't be fixed is there an alternative? I know nothing about User Scripts. Kathleen.wright5 01:10, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Questions about the operation of Qui should be directed to User talk:TheDJ (I believe it is supposed to work in FF3, so there may be another issue at work here). An alternative is Hersfold's status template here: User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate. –xenocidic (talk) 01:11, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- I use Firefox 3.0 and have been using this addon for weeks now with no problems ——RyanLupin • (talk) 07:48, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- There's an alternative below, see Wikipedia talk:Highly Active Users#Simpler misza statusChanger if you are having problems with Qui. –xenocidic (talk) 15:02, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Making Misza's statusChanger2.js compatible with HAU
I've worked out a way to make Misza's statusChanger.js system compatible with HAU. Simply add the following lines to your /StatusTemplate:
at the top:
{{ #ifeq: {{BASEPAGENAME}} |Highly Active Users|{{{1}}}|
at the bottom:
}}
That's it! I'd like to thank AstroHurricane001 for allowing me to make a huge mess of his user subspace whilst working out this solution. –xenocidic (talk) 14:25, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Simpler misza statusChanger if you are having problems with Qui
I've also modified Misza's statusChanger for those who are having problems with Qui. It now simply updates the one-word status in Special:Mypage/Status and you can use {{Statustop}} to display your status on your userpage. Import, or copy the following into your monobook.js:
importScript('User:Xenocidic/statusChanger2.js');
User:Cobi
I'm a little concerned about another editor, Cobi, on the Highly Active Users/North America page. I've read the Volunteers section on the main page, and he appears to have made approximately 66 edits last June. It said that "If you have more than [about] 500 edits a month, consider yourself highly active, somewhat knowledgeable about Wikipedia, and are willing to help new editors with questions and advice, feel free to add yourself to the appropriate region." I don't know if this meets the criteria; he's an excellent editor, but I'm kind of concerned about his activity here on Wikipedia. SchfiftyThree 22:01, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- To be honest, I think the 'Volunteers' section on the main project page is very badly worded anyway. Cobi is a very experienced user who operates various different bots (including ClueBot) who can be an ideal helper if and when his experience is required. I think his edit count is irrelevant, just because he hasn't made thousands of contributions, doesn't mean he cannot be of an asset to a user in need of assistance. ——RyanLupin • (talk) 22:19, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- A user's edit count doesn't necessarily reflect activity. I think that 500 edit thing was written by Useight when he was afraid we would get too many people applying.--Koji†Dude (C) 23:17, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- Indeed, that "500 edits" thing is one of the few relics from when the whole HAU idea was still a small project in my userspace. I'm going to take that out. Useight (talk) 23:40, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- Cobi's the one that coded all our pages and he always responds with the quickness. –xenocidic (talk) 03:05, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- And, if you really want to go by 500 edits, since my bots' edits are my responsibility, there were 54,019 edits in June that I was responsible for :) -- Cobi(t|c|b) 03:22, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Re: WP:HAU/EU
I'm trying to rearrange the table so it includes an IRC section like on the North American page. I just can't seem to get this to work? Anyone have any ideas? ——RyanLupin • (talk) 11:56, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- Just add
|irc=Y
to the end of the{{WP:HAU/U
line. -- Cobi(t|c|b) 12:13, 18 July 2008 (UTC)- I could have sworn I tried that haha. Thanks a lot ——RyanLupin • (talk) 12:16, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
