News
[edit]What do you guys think of removing the Virginia news from the portal? The last news item on there is from 2006. —Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiManOne (talk • contribs) 19:01, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
- Done, and replaced with a random article generator, which should be a bit of fun.Morgan Riley (talk) 15:18, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
Portal reactivated in a new, low-maintenance form!
[edit]I've been working to reactivate the portal into a self-sustaining randomized form. Namely, instead of manual updates which there doesn't seem enough interest in, there will be a randomized display of selected content, drawn from a sufficient quantity of pre-loaded content will be added (or at least attempt to be added). This will hopefully provide a springboard for people generally interested in the topic, while requiring far less maintenance that doesn't seem to exist here. Anyone who wants to help nominate or select content please drop by and join the talk here for thoughts and ideas. The pagehits counter recorded a general range of about 15-35 people a day visiting here, so while not spectacular, it isn't unwarranted that a large one-time push and subsequent would do a lot of good in the long-run.Morgan Riley (talk) 05:01, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
- So the main phase of the overhaul is mostly done; help is still desired on proofing the various pages, finishing finding dates for "This Month in Virginia History", finding an automated way to find Virginia-related featured/quality/valued images, and in general ironing things out. The ultimate goal is to take it to WP:Portal peer review, and through that find out what's missing to take it to WP:Featured portal candidates.Morgan Riley (talk) 23:26, 12 April 2013 (UTC)
Notice from the Portals WikiProject
[edit]WikiProject Portals is back!
The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018. Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, support the ongoing improvement of portals and the editors dedicated to this, and design the portals of the future.
As of May 2nd, 2018, membership is at 60 editors, and growing. You are welcome to join us.
There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for improving each component of portals. So far, 2 new dynamic components have been developed: Template:Transclude lead excerpt and Template:Transclude random excerpt.
Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.
And, if you are bored and would like something to occupy your mind, we have a wonderful task list.
From your friendly neighborhood Portals WikiProject. Hope to see you there. Sincerely, — The Transhumanist 07:50, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
