Article criteria
[edit]
  • Avoid writing overly detailed or "in-universe" text discussing a character in the main body. Consider that most people reading the article may not be aware of other characters in a franchise or the significance of certain events. When it doubt, Keep It Simple.
  • See Wikipedia:Notability (video game characters) for further information. Make notability apparent. Avoid trivial facts and listicles that say next to nothing about a character, and instead cite statements by the author discussing the character in the reception section. Demonstrate why they are important outside of their parent work.
  • If a character article does not meet notability, don't get immediately discouraged. Build your article on a sub page or draft, and if you feel sources may exist but you're not certain about them bring it up on the task force talk page and ask if anyone can help.
  • Stick to using sources not marked Unreliable by WP:VG/S, but also consider sources listed there may also have additional situational restrictions even if marked reliable.
Tasks
[edit]
Organizational tasks
  • Map out a consistent manual of style for infoboxes for character articles within the WikiProject, and what In-Universe information can be omitted in most cases from the shared infobox template.
  • Create and maintain archive of video game character-related deletion discussions
  • Try to bring all current articles under the scope of this project to C-class or higher. As new articles are created, try to help them achieve this status if they meet notability.
  • Clean up a lot of the character lists that may have fallen into disarray over time, and consider any lists that may need creation.
  • Compile a reference archive of any other notable characters currently without articles we may want to someday explore as full articles, or past subjects that may now meet notability.
