During his three Olympic seasons, Yuzuru Hanyu, a Japanese figure skater, won two gold medals in the men's singles event, one each in 2014 and 2018. He also placed fourth in 2022. In 2014, he became the first Asian men's singles skater to win an Olympic gold medal. Aged nineteen at the time, he became the youngest male skater to win the Olympic title since American Dick Button in 1948. In 2018, Hanyu became the first male singles skater in 66 years to win gold medals in consecutive Winter Olympics since Button, who also won in 1952. For his achievements, Hanyu received the People's Honour Award from the Prime Minister of Japan as well as two Medals of Honor with Purple Ribbon. He was also selected as a recipient of the Kikuchi Kan Prize for his accomplishments in figure skating, including his back-to-back Olympic titles. Two monuments in memory of his Olympic wins were erected at the International Center Station in his hometown of Sendai. He was also listed in ESPN's World Fame 100 and The Dominant 20 along with Forbes' 30 Under 30 Asia for his success in 2018. (Full article...)
- Most recent similar article(s): Tessa Sanderson (Sep 13, 2022, last Olympics-related TFA), Compulsory figures (Apr 26, 2020, last figure skating-related TFA)
- Main editors: Henni147, Yolo4A4Lo, ErnestKrause (FAC nominator)
- Promoted: October 11, 2022
- Reasons for nomination: First article specifically about the Olympic seasons of any athlete and first featured biographical article about a figure skater. With Hanyu's retirement from competitive skating, the article is not expected to change much anymore and a spoken version is planned to be recorded in the next 2-3 weeks. Reason for date: December 7 is Hanyu's birthday.
- Support as nominator. Henni147 (talk) 10:19, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- Support. Hanyu is one of the top figure skaters of the last decade. He should be recognized for his exceptional contributions to sports in general. ErnestKrause (talk) 13:20, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- Support. Despite having retire from competitive sport, Hanyu is very much trending topic in figure skating for his legacy and what he's doing now as a pro. The chosen date will be perfect to feature the article. - Yolo4A4Lo (talk) 01:04, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- Comment: Unless I am missing it, I do not see a link to Yuzuru Hanyu Olympic seasons in the blurb? It should clear and in bold so readers can access the article. Aoba47 (talk) 22:54, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- It will also confuse the bot if the first link in the blurb is not to the article in question. So the blurb needs to be tweaked in that regard.--Wehwalt (talk) 01:05, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Aoba47 and Wehwalt: I tried to adjust the blurb in a way that the main article link is placed first in the text. It would be even better to have a link to figure skating as a sport as well, but I couldn't think of a better solution yet. If there are any smart ideas, I'm open for suggestions. Henni147 (talk) 08:23, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
- I've played with it some. I have no doubt there will be further modifications as the time approaches.--Wehwalt (talk) 19:26, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

- Support: The blurb looks solid now. Aoba47 (talk) 16:59, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
- Update: I added the latest information about Hanyu receiving the prestigious Kikuchi Kan Prize. It was announced on October 11 that he would be among the recipients. The award ceremony will be held in December (I am not sure about the exact date, but this shouldn't have an impact on the blurb, I think). Henni147 (talk) 06:05, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
- Is there a feeling you'd prefer to run this one the day the prize is awarded?--Wehwalt (talk) 09:17, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Wehwalt: I indeed considered a change of date, but retrospectively I think, it's best to stay with Hanyu's birthday. Being featured on the mainpage of the world's largest encyclopedia is such an exclusive birthday present after all.
- Note: Hanyu will skate the second stop of his new ice show Prologue on December 2, 3 and 5. The reason for the day break on Sunday is probably the award ceremony, but there is no official confirmation yet. Anyways, we can expect increased traffic on his page series that week, that's for sure. Henni147 (talk) 12:12, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
