Paul A

Can I be an admin, please? I haven't been here an extraordinarily long time - just over half a year, I think - but the record shows (I hope) that I can be trusted with the powers, and it would really save time if I didn't have to track down an admin every time I came across a badly renamed page, which I seem to do with surprising regularity. (Woo. Long sentence.) —Paul A 02:04, 12 Sep 2003 (UTC)

  • I second this. Paul seems to be a very trustworthy Wikipedian. Angela 02:14, Sep 12, 2003 (UTC)

Modemac

I've been hooked on Wikipedia since I stumbled across it in August of 2002. After more than a year of contributing, I figure it's time to throw my hat into the ring and ask for permission to be a moderator.

I promise to repeal the 2001 tax cuts, increase international cooperation in Iraq...errr, umm, wrong message.  :)

Actually, I'm hoping that my conduct over the past year has been sufficient to show that I intend to use NPOV in a manner that will hopefully prevent heated rivalries (and worse) in the more controversial subjects, as I've tried to do with my additions to the Scientology articles. I also enjoy pop culture, and I intend to keep updating such life-changing subjects as movie and cartoon related articles, along with forays into topics related to skepticism, pseudoscience, and cults. --Modemac 15:14, 8 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Nanobug (Wikiquote)

I was recently made a sysop for Wikipedia. Could I also become a sysop for Wikiquote as I have made over 400 edits there and wish to move some protected pages to the correct namespace. See also Wikiquote:Requests for adminship. Thanks. Nanobug 00:16, 4 Sep 2003 (UTC)

I second.-戴&#30505sv 08:05, Sep 11, 2003 (UTC)

Jwrosenzweig

  • User:Jwrosenzweig has made nearly 300 edits since last month. He cares about WP enough to ask directions on how to deal with a newbie's behaviour on the Pump, then talk with the newbie. A very adminesque job he has done. I like his attitude too. Not aggressive and quite humble of his knowledge. --Menchi 09:03, Aug 21, 2003 (UTC)
    • Support. Jwrosenzweig would make a valuable addition to the group of admins if he accepts the responsibility. He gives and recieves advice graciously. All in all the model of what a good admin should be. -- Cimon Avaro on a pogostick
    • Support. User_talk:Fantasy#Thanks! and other of his actions/comments indicate that he would make a great addition to Wikipedia Adminship. And: I could not find nealy any thing he did without Summary. I like that ;-) -- Fantasy 11:47, 21 Aug 2003 (UTC)
      • I have no idea how many votes one needs to be given adminship, but I thought it was time to note that, should it be the decision of my fellow editors, I would be honored to be a sysop, and pledge to use my powers sparingly. I am slightly reluctant to do so, partially because I am relatively new here, and partially because I worry that I will not be a frequent enough contributor to warrant this distinction. Thanks to those of you who nominated me: truly an unexpected delight. Jwrosenzweig 04:04, 26 Aug 2003 (UTC)
  • Fourthed--戴&#30505sv 02:40, Sep 14, 2003 (UTC)

Dysprosia

I nominate Dysprosia. Does a lot of housekeeping stuff like blanking tests/profanity/etc., so would benefit from being able to delete articles. Also makes many NPOV edits, and generally seems to have a good grasp on how things should go around here. --Delirium 10:26, Aug 27, 2003 (UTC)

  • My feeling says: Support. 800 Edits in August alone, wow. And what I saw looked good. Two things I am not 100% sure, but this are things that can be solved:
    • July 2 begin of contributions
    • Only half of the edits have comments. I feel better, if you add just a short comment, even if minore edits.
  • Support. Good work editing, stays NPOV, polite, etc. I agree that anyone already doing so much housekeeping/clean-up would probably be a helpful admin. Although only a member for a while, the contribution record speaks for itself. Paige 21:39, 27 Aug 2003 (UTC)
  • I've noticed Dysprosia out there, fighting the good fight. Support. --Dante Alighieri 13:47, 28 Aug 2003 (UTC)
  • Excellent choice. Does much good work already, without even being a sysop. A definite gain for Wikipedia to have him her as an administrator. -- Cimon Avaro on a pogo-stick 14:16, Aug 28, 2003 (UTC)

I most humbly accept :) Thanks for all your support! (And I've started putting comments in my edits too :) Dysprosia 01:08, 29 Aug 2003 (UTC)

  • Gotta support this guy/lady if s/he's willing to change for WP! And he said he'd do some diagrams (#To do)! --Menchi 01:58, 4 Sep 2003 (UTC)
  • Support. I'm surprised he/she hasn't been made an admin yet.Vancouverguy 02:01, 4 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Hey, thanks all of you again! Its so sweet of you all to say all nice stuff about me (a she, btw, but its no biggie) :) Dysprosia

Oh, shush: *stickytapes them back together and hands it back to you* :) Dysprosia 05:12, 9 Sep 2003 (EDT)
Another support - I already deleted so many pages blanked by him before, so I am surprised he isn't made admin yet. andy 04:59, 9 Sep 2003 (EDT)

Patrick

  • User:Patrick has made some 8000+ edits since January 2003. I have seen him make numerous factual corrections to the various country lists and country articles, and his contribution record shows good solid edits on many other articles. --Jiang 07:23, 13 Sep 2003 (UTC)
    • Huh? You mean Patrick isn't a sysop long since? If he isn't, then I second the nomination. --User:Tannin
    • I support too. I think Patrick will be a very capable sysop. Angela
    • I accept my nomination. Thank you for your support and kind words. - Patrick 11:26, 13 Sep 2003 (UTC)
    • I support. He's a conscientious contributor. -- Heron 21:20, 13 Sep 2003 (UTC)
    • Strong support - every one of his edits, that I've sen, has been good and uncontroversial - one of the unsung heros of Wikipedia.
    • Sixthed.--戴&#30505sv 02:40, Sep 14, 2003 (UTC)
    • Ambivalent. I have found him rigid and dogmatic in editing disagreements. Also, he frequently forsakes adding a summary to his edits. Viajero 19:50, Sep 14, 2003 (UTC)

Dgrant

I nominate User:Dgrant for adminship. He has done a great job contacting copyright violators on Wikipedia:Sites that use Wikipedia for content, and has made 814 contibutions total since he joined in Jan. He would make a great admin. He obviously is motivated to look after the good of wikipedia. { MB | マイカル } 14:33, Aug 27, 2003 (UTC)

  • full support from me. --mav 22:54, 30 Aug 2003 (UTC)
  • Thanks Mbecker. I would be honoured to become an admin. I'd like to continue to pursue the copyright violators, as mentioned above (which I have taken a break from lately). I think sysop priveleges would be ok with me and I would use them responsibly at all times for the good of Wikipedia. dave 08:40, 28 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Noel

I nominate Jnc. An excellent contributor and the right attitude to be a sysop. Angela 18:04, 25 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Sure - although I'll probably be too terrified of doing something wrong (for a while, at least :-) to do anything but delete those stupid redirect typos my fingers keep generating! Noel 23:41, 25 Aug 2003 (UTC)
  • Support: He has an interest in historical stuff that we appreciate having here, among other things. --Menchi 01:33, Aug 27, 2003 (UTC)
  • Very helpful putting the Medici articles in order and also in working with others while doing so. Full support. --mav 22:54, 30 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Viajero

I nominate User:Viajero. 172 16:49, 25 Aug 2003 (UTC)

  • Second. A dedicated contributor. Angela 17:53, 27 Aug 2003 (UTC)
  • Third. Good choice. --mav 22:54, 30 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Thanks, I'm honoured! -- Viajero 07:56, Aug 29, 2003 (UTC)
Developers should fast-tract Viajero for adminship. He has done wonders for a huge array of articles, especially on Latin America, an unfortunately neglected area on this site. He has staunchly defended NPOV policies on articles such as Hugo Chavez, Alejandro Toledo, and Alberto Fujimori. At times, I had to protect these articles from ideological partisans, which posed a problem for Viajero, who was unable to unprotect the pages when the problem users lost interest since I was away. 172 03:30, 30 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Alex756

  • User:Alex756 has been with us since April 2003 and has made over 2000 edits, often making our law-related articles more professional and accurate. Obviously not a red-eyed blood-sucking lawyer we have here! :-) He had been nominated by LittleDan months ago, and supported by mav. One assumes that they still support him, since Alex756 has not villify as far as I can detect with my vice-sensor. A prolific writer with specific insights into what exactly is lawful or not like him would make him an ideal administrator. --Menchi 06:26, Aug 23, 2003 (UTC)
    • Seconded. He seems to have a very clear Idea about law. I have the feeling that you will make a good addition to Wikipedia Adminship ;-) Fantasy 08:49, 23 Aug 2003 (UTC)
  • I accept the nomination &#8212 as I previously did on the mailing list in May — promise not to be heavyhanded in use of admin. powers; remind everyone that lawyers have a natural (is that nurture or nature?!) tendency to disagree (especially on legal positions) as legal cultures have their own NPOV approaches to documenting such differing points of view; and, finally, that nothing I post on Wikipedia is legal advice, just general legal information or my reflections on various legal questions that are presented to this cooperative community for consensus review. I try not to be one of those generally disagreeable lawyers, — I believe compromise and cooperation are essential to any social system. Thank you for the nominations. Alex756 15:46, 24 Aug 2003 (UTC)
  • Another vote of support. Though I must say your acceptance post just above this looks vaguely like something a lawyer might write. :) --Delirium 00:01, Aug 26, 2003 (UTC)
    • Make it so! --mav 22:54, 30 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Marshman

  • User:Marshman has done 1032 edits and is still strong, mostly on marine, aquatic and botanical stuff. Some great personal photos. I read his comments in the Pump and found that despite his relatively short time here, he has an impressive understanding of Wikipedia philosophy. --Menchi 03:10, Aug 23, 2003 (UTC)
    • Support --Jiang 22:32, 26 Aug 2003 (UTC)
  • I would be honored. For some reason I'm really enjoying this and it is addictive. I need to find a way to control my tendency to keep going back every 30 minutes when I have many other things to attend to in my business and life. - Marshman
    • Make it so! --mav 22:54, 30 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Adam Bishop

  • Adam Bishop -- A friendly writer responsive to questions. Helps improving articles, if he could, when others requested assistance. Has done 1619 edits in less than 2 months (June 9 - August 7). --Menchi 01:20, Aug 8, 2003 (UTC)
    • I'll second that. - Hephaestos 01:21, 8 Aug 2003 (UTC)
    • I can vouch that his contributions to a wide variety of Canadiana articles have been excellent. - SimonP 19:30, Aug 12, 2003 (UTC)
    • I agree - Adam Bishop is an obvious choice. --mav 22:07, 13 Aug 2003 (UTC)
      • Ooh, I didn't know I was listed here...I have to reply here, right? Adam Bishop 03:56, 14 Aug 2003 (UTC)
    • Adam would be an excellent sysop. I enthusiastically endorse his nomination. FearÉIREANN 18:50, 15 Aug 2003 (UTC)
      • I suppose I should actually say that I accept, which I do :) Adam Bishop 04:23, 19 Aug 2003 (UTC)
    • I support this nomination as well. Adam has done some great work. dave 05:51, 2 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Heron

  • I nominate Heron, although I admit I haven't asked whether he/she wants it. Heron has hundreds of good edits, and is extremely meticulous. - Hephaestos 21:24, 30 Aug 2003 (UTC)
    • I second the nomination. --mav 22:50, 30 Aug 2003 (UTC)
    • I'll give support too Theresa knott 13:54, 1 Sep 2003 (UTC)
    • Thanks, Hephaestos, mav and Theresa knott, for your recommendations. I gladly accept the nomination. -- Heron 20:29, 1 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Nanobug

  • I have done only about 150 edits on Wikipedia so far but over 400 on Wikiquote since it started in late June 2003. I would like to have sysop privileges, and promise to use them with discretion. (Wikiquote does not yet have admins, as the main page is not yet protected, but once it is I will need to set up a page similar to this one on Wikiqote, and become an admin there as well. Actually I should do that earlier so we can delete some unnecessary pages e.g. pages that should have been created in the Wikiquote namespace instead of the Main namespace, and now have superfluous redirects.)
This would also help me as I am currently trying to redo the front page of Wikiquote (here is our proposed new main page. LittleDan and Angela think we should see what it looks like with the last two sections side by side. This would be easier if I could just copy the formatting from the main page of Wikipedia. If you don't want to make me an admin, please copy the text of the main page to somewhere I can find it. Thanks. Nanobug 16:26, 18 Aug 2003 (UTC)
    • Support: 150 + 400 = 550, not bad in such a short time. I also like his willing-to-learn attitude (i.e., not arrogant) exhibited in the Talk pages, so I'd recommend he be Wikiquote sysop as well. Seems like I'm abusing one-vote-per person system. CIA will come after me! :-o --Menchi 21:46, Aug 18, 2003 (UTC)
    • Support for WikiQuote, but I haven't seen enough evidence yet to add my support for his Wikipedia adminship. Angela 23:16, 18 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Llywrch

  • I've been a contributor to Wikipedia since October of 2002, & "sorta" watch over the ancient & medieval parts of the history colection of articles. I've long avoided being an admin, but since Intel has decided to end my service with them for budget reasons, I now have copious amounts of free time to squander -- I mean devote -- to Wikipedia. -- llywrch 02:33, 20 Aug 2003 (UTC)
    • Support. Seen him before. And we do have an insufficient amount of guardians over medieval stuff (I don't know why it sounds so bad the way I said it). --Menchi 02:47, Aug 20, 2003 (UTC)
      • Can I support if I'm not an admin myself? Well I support anyway, we need more medieval stuff! Adam Bishop 03:32, 23 Aug 2003 (UTC)
      • Also support; Llywrch has been here for ages and done nothing but good stuff that I've seen. - Hephaestos 03:34, 23 Aug 2003 (UTC)
      • Support, for the same reasons as everyone else. Also, Menchi, it sounds bad because we have an insufficient number of guardians over medieval stuff. :) --Delirium 00:01, Aug 26, 2003 (UTC)
    • I've seen nothing but good edits and behaviour from Llywrch, so I support Adminship. --mav 22:50, 30 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Vancouverguy

  • I have been a contributor to Wikipedia for about 1 1/2 months, and have made 300+ edits, and written numerous articles. I would much like sysop privilages, and would be careful to use them with discretion. I have plenty of free time a the moment to assist with Wikipedia, and would much like to help. Vancouverguy 21:29, 30 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Schneelocke

  • Schneelocke for sysop! Simply put, Schneelocke is an uncontentious and prolific contributor who will make an excellent admin. He helped clean up after User:Wakka who was trying to "prove a point" by vandalizing articles (*shakes head*) and will benefit from being able to revert and delete pages. Wikipedia needs more contributors who are able to clean up after vandals and delete junk pages, especially in light of Wikipedia's press coverage. This is a good start. -- Notheruser 21:58, 13 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Ahoerstemeier

  • I tried to deny it, but I became a Wikipediholic. So now I need the higher dosage of being an administrator, so I can do more of the housekeeping work as well. -- andy 11:44, 15 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Pcb21

  • I just noticed I am the least most active wikipedian. This spurs to make a humble request for adminship. My reasons are a mixture of wanting to help out with the housework and wanting to know what the extra buttons look like. (User:Pcb21) Pete 13:33, 15 Aug 2003 (UTC)

      • Thank you all very much indeed for your support. I hope I will repay your trust. Pete 11:17, 20 Aug 2003 (UTC)

J.J.

  • I'd like to think I've contributed a fair bit of relevant information and new pages to Wikipedia in the last few months. So I'd very much like to become a full-fledged admin. Be sure to check out my profile page. ---user:J.J.
    • Support: However, you have a bad tendency to not describe anything about some of the photos you've uploaded (a specific source, that is). If you become an admin, you need to correct that obvious flaw, or other people will think that even an admin do such a thing, then they can do it too. (I trust that you're uploading non-copyrighted images, but but others can easily make that claim to, and why should we trust somebody we don't know on serious matter like this?) Admins can make mistakes (we all can), but we must follow clear policies, such as copyright/copyleft attribution. --Menchi 06:45, Aug 16, 2003 (UTC)

  • I hereby volunteer for light housekeeping duties. I dedicate this self-nomination to Marshallharsh and Gar, who have been a big inspiration. Cyan 02:46, 6 Aug 2003 (UTC)
    • Support: Seen him copyediting and updating materials around, and he seems to be the "light housekeeper" type. --Menchi 04:50, Aug 6, 2003 (UTC)
    • Seconded. Angela 21:52, 6 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Tompagenet

  • I would like to ask the Wikipeida community if it would consider making me an admin. I have been a reader of this resource for almost exactly a year now, and an active contributor for eight and a half months. My principle reason for wishing to apply is the chance to hopefully cool potentially harmful flame wars and rollback the actions of users on vandalism sprees. Many of my chances to Wikipedia have been style alterations, but I have also helped start some articles and am glad to help. I can invest much time in the project currently, as I am on university vacation and generally will be able to edit between the hours of 15:00 and 03:00 UTC. I shall not be offended if my request is turned down and will, of course, continue to contribute regardless. Thanks for your consideration. Tompagenet 12:40, 30 Jul 2003 (UTC)

    • Hm. I need to see a more extensive track record of edits before I would support your application. --mav 08:09, 4 Aug 2003 (UTC)
    • I support Tom; he's been here for nine months, and as far as I can tell, hasn't been disruptive once. Sure, his number of edits may be on the light side, but have you forgotten about User:ilyanep who was made a sysop after thirty or so edits to the sandbox? -- Notheruser 19:41, 4 Aug 2003 (UTC)
      • Yes, and Ilyanep disappeared soon after. I support Tom's request as well. Just a few days before Zippy became an admin (see below), although he has made even fewer edits than Tom. So it wouldn't be fair to exclude Tom just because of the number of his edits. -- Cordyph 20:58, 5 Aug 2003 (UTC)
    • I agree with the above. Unless there are explicit objections, I'll make Tom a sysop.--—Eloquence 22:08, Aug 5, 2003 (UTC)

Chadloder

  • I would like to be granted permission to modify the front page on occasion, in particular the In the News and Recent deaths headers. I am a compulsive reader of the news and I frequently add Wikipedia articles about people or events in the news. I've only been an editor since January of 2003 but I have added several non-trivial new articles since then. Thanks. Chadloder 19:23, 1 Aug 2003 (UTC)

    • Support from me too, Rick is one of the good guys. Tannin 09:30 13 Jul 2003 (UTC)
    • Wow. I don't know. What are the responsibilities of being a sysop? I probably would have liked to have been able to block that guy who was running amok the other day. RickK 01:10 15 Jul 2003 (UTC)
      • As far as I know, there aren't really any responsibilities, just a list of obvious things not to do. כסיף Cyp 20:49 20 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Acceptance: OK, I guess I can live with it. I can always just not do the admin thing if it gets to be too oppressive, right? Thank you, everybody. RickK 01:04 24 Jul 2003 (UTC)
So, when do I notice anything different? RickK 07:29 26 Jul 2003 (UTC)
Once a developer has made you a sysop. You'll get a message on your talk page when this happens. Angela 08:50 26 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Zippy

  • 21 Jul 2003 Zippy: I've been contributing as a registered user since August 2002 (and as unregistered since June 2002), including both new entries and edits of existing ones. My net identity goes back for more than a decade, with a record of helpful participation on Slashdot and Usenet. I believe in a light touch in moderation except in the case of obvious vandalism (Goatse, bots). My main interest in adminship is in correcting and contributing to protected pages when I spot problems (typos, errors, unclear language).
    • Solid contributor who I don't recall has ever made a non-NPOV edit or has been the instigator of any edit war. I fully support Zippy as Admin. Do I hear a second so that we can make it so! --mav 19:43 22 Jul 2003 (UTC)
    • Seems to be in a weird time zone, so I don't recognize the name, but checked a few random edits, didn't find anything wrong. Is the sole contributor to at least a couple of short, properly wikified, articles. כסיף Cyp 11:59 23 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Fantasy

  • 25 Jul 2003 Fantasy: Hi, in January 2003 I found out about Wikipedia and soon my wife told me to shut up with this Wiki-thing... Now we came to a compromise that I am telling her at maximum once a week my best wiki-experiences/ideas and it seems that she can handle it now ;-) Maybe my contributions are sometimes not totally NPOV, but I am working with passion on Wikipedia and I know that someone will tell me, If I am going too far, as I tell others if I see NPOVs. I would like to become admin because I worked as SQL Application Developer for many years and sometimes I would like to try something, but non-Admins don't have access (I know about the server-workload-issues, don't worry). And my second reason: it feels like applying to get on the starship Enterprise, out there, to seek new knowledge, to go, where no Encyclopedia has gone before... ;-)

CYD

  • CYD. The fact that he's only made ~1200 edits hides the fact that his contribution to the physics section has been huge. He's been quietly producing quality articles since December 2001. -- Tim Starling 06:47 12 Jul 2003 (UTC)
    • Great articles on computing and Harry Houdini. Seconded -- Jim Regan 08:30 12 Jul 2003 (UTC)
    • Support. Good contri-list. --Menchi 08:44 12 Jul 2003 (UTC)
    • Also seconded by MB on the mailing list here
      • Thanks, fellas. I accept the nomination. -- CYD

Antonio [whatever] Martin

  • Antonio [whatever] Martin. Justification: See Vfd. -- Cimon Avaro on a pogo-stick 07:44 3 Jul 2003 (UTC)
(Just to keep everybody up to speed, Antonio whatever Martin posted an article that contained only the word "poop" on Votes for Deletion. It has since been removed, but it served as the impetus for my nomination, which I think may well have been the intent behind it. -- Cimon Avaro on a pogo-stick 07:27 5 Jul 2003 (UTC)
    • Yep, Antonio should be an admin Martin is a good choice -- sannse 08:07 3 Jul 2003 (UTC)
    • Yes, Antonio for sysop! He's an enthusiastic and hard-working Wikipedian, and I'm sure he wouldn't do anything evil. :) -- Oliver P. 04:01 7 Jul 2003 (UTC)
    • I fourth this nomination now I understand Cimon's comment. The first time I read it, I thought he meant Antonio had written the 'poop' article! Angela 16:41 10 Jul 2003 (UTC)
    • Yep - Antonio should be an Admin. About a third of the requests to have things listed on the Main Page come from Antonio so he might as well list them himself. :) --mav 06:24 11 Jul 2003 (UTC)
    • Thank you guys. Give me some time to think about it. Antonio Undecided Martin
Im about to accept, because Id like to be not just a reporter, but an anchor as well..lol but I need to know what are the things an administrator has to do? -- Antonio always curious Martin
      • I don't think an administrator has to do anything. What you can do is delete pages (but not arbitrarily - only if they are junk or have been listed on VfD for a week.) You can also protect pages (unless you're involved in an edit war on them), query the database and edit protected pages. Angela 19:55 12 Jul 2003 (UTC)
      • Need-to-do? Can-do? Could-do? They're listed aquí, but people (including fellow admins) have diff expectations (hence the opening Qs). --Menchi 19:57 12 Jul 2003 (UTC)
      • Other nice things you can do : undelete pages (not arbitrarily, when they are listed on Wikipedia:votes for undeletion), unprotect pages (when it appears there is no reason why regular users could not edit them), unblock ips (when good users are unfortunately blocked). User:anthere
      • Well , ok I accept. I hope I do a good job1 Everyone, at the same time, a big Godspeed for me!! lol. And thank you very much all of you for nominating me. --Antonio your new Wiki-anchor Martim
