Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Decrease

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Reason: COVID 19 isn’t a huge topic anymore, I think the protection can be reduced to semi. Heyaaaaalol (talk) 23:13, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@HJ Mitchell: you did the most recent protection. I think the reason for the current EC protection is likely no longer a concern. There are a couple of old but reasonable edit requests on the talk page too. Is it OK with you to reduce to semi? ~Anachronist (talk) 01:27, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
HJ did a visibility change to a vandal's edit. @El C did the most recent protection level change. Zinnober9 (talk) 02:19, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Like with many protected political pages, the real-world result of the "protection" is that a small handful of editors who feel strongly about the topic end up holding the article and its talk page hostage. Specifically, for this talk page there have been multiple instances of an editor trying to address what they feel is inappropriate bias in the article and having their discussion shut down and archived before any real discussion can take place - not because there aren't editors who feel similarly, but because those editors cannot even engage in discussion on the talk page.

I can understand and support leaving the protection on the main article, but limiting discussion on the talk page is a step too far and is starting to feel antithetical to the mission of Wikipedia. 71.210.42.253 (talk) 14:38, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined: this protection is arbitration enforcement. Requests to modify arbitration enforcement actions must be made at WP:ARCA. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 14:49, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Or to El C (talk · contribs), who protected the page in the first place. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 18:15, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The protection of the talk page specifically is arbitration enforcement? 71.210.42.253 (talk) 20:27, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Requesting immediate archiving... Favonian (talk) 20:13, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why??? This is part of what I'm talking about. The rush by certain editors to archive (aka hide) discussions like this is becoming bizarre. 71.210.42.253 (talk) 20:27, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
