CONTEXT COMMENTS
[edit]There are 17 NHL Fall 2007 nominations at NHL site, ready for approval at an NHL meeting in July, specific date of meeting not known. Not all 17 will be designated NHLs, probably. Not sure if the Secretary of the Interior will choose to sign off and announce the new NHLs right away, or to wait for some opportune moment.
This is a sandbox to coordinate development of articles on those candidates for NHL status in 2008. Shortcut is "NHLs 2008". It is a sandbox because this is tentative, being set up for an announcement expected any time in July. It is hoped that this list and articles on each one can go live quickly when the announcement is made. It is also hoped this can support a great wikinews article on the announcement, too. Please discuss possibilities for this in the Talk page.
New articles created for most, but forked copies for 6 created (for B Reactor, Camp Uncas, Freedom Tower (Miami), and others indicated, which had pre-existing articles). For those that are forked, the intention is to develop the article further in the sandbox, and to paste the new version into the old version in one big edit. Note, for these forked sandboxes, the sandbox edit history will be lost, except the one big edit, in the paste-ins to those articles. Credit-wise, whoever develops any one of the forked ones should have the option to do the big edit itself, to show authorship most fairly.

Proposed new NHLs
[edit]The 17 new NHLs add to the previous total of 2,442 NHLs, which are distributed across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, territories and associated states, and one in a non-associated foreign country. The new NHLs are distributed around just the continental United States, with five in New York, and two each in Montana and Pennsylvania. New York already had 256 NHLs, the most for any state, and more than 10% of the nation's total.
