Today's featured list  Today's featured list is a section included on the Main Page on Mondays and on Fridays, in which an introduction to one of Wikipedia's featured lists is displayed. The current month's queue can be found here. The lists appearing on the Main Page are scheduled by the featured list director, currently Giants2008. To be eligible to appear on the Main Page, a list must already be featured. For more information on the featured list promotion process, please see the featured list candidates, as well as the featured list criteria. In addition, a blurb is drafted, introducing the subject of the list. Blurbs are roughly 1,000 characters in length, with no reference tags, alternate names or extraneous boldface type, although a link to the specified featured list should be emboldened; a relevant picture is also usually included with the blurb. The previous three lists that were featured on the Main Page appear along the bottom, in reverse chronological order. You can submit a list to be scheduled at the submissions page. At the moment, lists are scheduled by the featured list director or by the featured list delegates, although we will eventually be devising a community-based system for selecting each day's list. We encourage editors to submit and to review as many blurbs as possible. From the previous featured list (Friday, December 20)
The American new wave band Talking Heads recorded 96 songs between 1975 and 1991, twelve of which were not officially released until after their break-up. After leaving art school, Talking Heads released their debut single, "Love → Building on Fire", in early 1977, followed by their debut album, Talking Heads: 77, later that year. While initially not a big hit, the album was aided by the single "Psycho Killer". In 1983, the band parted ways with producer Brian Eno and released their fifth album, Speaking in Tongues. The album contained the band's first and only top ten hit, "Burning Down the House". After Little Creatures (1985), the band released True Stories (1986). Notable songs from the album include one of the group's biggest hits, "Wild Wild Life", and "Radio Head", a song from which the English rock band Radiohead took their name. (Full list...)

Since 2005, Doctor Who has aired 19 special episodes on Christmas or New Year's Day. During its original run, from 1963–1989, episodes were occasionally broadcast over holiday periods, but they rarely made mention of the holidays. Once the programme was revived in 2005, special Christmas episodes were produced yearly until 2017. From 2019–2022, the show transitioned to New Year's Day specials instead. The series then returned to Christmas specials once more in 2023. The holiday episodes have proven to be a success with viewers, by bringing in larger viewing figures than regular episodes of the programme. Doctor Who is a British science-fiction television series that airs on BBC One and releases on Disney+. It revolves around an alien called the Doctor who travels with a companion in a time and space machine called the TARDIS. A twentieth special, "Joy to the World", is set to release on 25 December 2024. (Full list...)
