- Uploaded by Gssq (notify). CV. The issue/year is unknown, so it cannot be verified. It looks very much like a cover scan of a manga magazine, however. The image may have been previously photoshopped to serve a racist purpose. Tokek 08:48, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- I got it off some forum. I seriously doubt it was photoshopped. I'm told this is probably a football thing - "JAP" is the International Country code for Japan in football. And anyway anti-Japanese racism is practically non-existent - it lives only in the minds of over-sensitive Americans who feel residual guilt over what their country did to Japanese during World War II. gssq 09:10, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, Hikaru no Go is a manga about board games, not football. Check the article. As for your claim about football, I have no idea why a football association would decide to use country codes that are incompatible with ISO standards, however your claim is not backed up with source. Of course, "practically non-existent" is different from "non-existent," so I have no idea what the point of that claim is, since the image remains questionable and without appropriate citation that can be used to verify the image. Without checking the source, it's impossible to get the correct context of the image as well (cf. football comment). —Tokek 00:08, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- This is an improper use of a fair use image. This image can only be used to illustrate the issue of the manga itself. This will be handled through the orphaned fair use image deletion process. howcheng {chat} 21:05, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- Contrary to what you claim, according to List of FIFA country codes, it is JPN. JAP is not even listed as an obsolete country code. Again, you have nothing.—Tokek 12:46, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- I have no idea about football - my friend was the one who made that claim. I would be grateful if you could point me to a possible answer as to why "JAP" was on that person's cheek, since the phenomenon of faux racism annoys me greatly. But, yeah, it's improper use of a Fair Use image. My bad. gssq 16:41, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

- Yes, it's a poor image. I've uploaded a better image, one which depicts the subject better and also has a much better fair use rationale and case. I've taken the liberty of replacing the dim image you propose deleting with this one. So the old one should indeed be deleteed. Middenface 21:49, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
