I believe this is an image I CSD'ed under "attack" using {{db-attack}}. The page exists but the image doesn't. Per WP:BLP this should should be deleted immediately, and IFD is too slow for that. --MECUtalk 15:53, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, sometimes when an image is deleted, the page appears to be there even though it is really gone. If you click the "edit" link at the top of the page and then in the address bar, change "action=edit" to "action=purge" and hit enter, the description page will usually go away. (Removed from Smoked Cheese) ... we need a way of checking for animated gifs. This is the second time I have seen this type of vandalism and I wouldn't be surprised if there is more of it. BigDT 15:30, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe there should be a category for animated gifs? At least, it would put them all in once place. Of course, getting people to put these images in that category would be a chore. Maybe a tag that could be added to an animated gif page that says someone has looked at it and determined it not to contain bad stuff? Is it possible to "decode" a gif to see how it's made? Perhaps the Wikipedia:Graphic Lab could help figure something out. --MECUtalk 15:40, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Downloading the image and opening it in most image editors (GIMP, Photoshop, etc.) will show the animation frames as layers. I guess it should be possible to make MediaWiki automatically display information like frame count and loop length for animated GIFs, the way we display Exif metadata for JPEG files; let me add it to my "to do" list... —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 18:24, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah ... if MediaWiki could automatically detect them, then finding vandalism images like this would be much easier - just patrol the category and kill anything that doesn't have a good reason to be animated. BigDT 19:13, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In any case, this is a low-resolution GIF version of an image already found on Commons as Image:Cheese 20 bg 050606.jpg. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 18:34, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please note, the uploader has added a source URL and has removed the IFD tag. Obviously IFD tags should not be removed until the end of the discussion, though I would suggest that as there is an obvious potential encyclopedic use for this image and it has been confirmed to have a legitimate free source and license, it should be moved to commons. FYI, Images with no source, uploaded for vandalism only, or which have a fair use tag that is patently unrelated to the image don't actually have to be brought to IFD - they can just be tagged. BigDT 22:02, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
