Wapahani High School is a very small high school located near Selma, Indiana. The school is the only high school for the community, which is served by Liberty-Perry Community Schools.

Superintendent

The Superintendent of Liberty-Perry Community Schools is Mr. Bryan Rausch. He was the principal of Wapahani High School from 2002 until the end of the 2007-2008 school year. He replaced Mr. Jim Craig.

History

Wapahani High School was founded in 1967 to replace Selma and Center High Schools. Wapahani is a Delaware Indian word for White River, whose west fork runs a few hundred yards behind the school. The name was chosen by the daughter of Ardis Bailey, who was a secretary at Selma High School.The Principal Mike Schuck resigned from his position at the end of the 2010-2011 school year. The new principal after Schuck resigned is Mr.Chad Briggs.[1]

In January, 2008 Wapahani Alumni Association was organized to represent alumni from Wapahani High School. A vote of the membership changed the name in August, 2009, to Liberty-Perry Alumni Association, which represents alumni from Wapahani High School and the parent schools Selma High School and Center High School. The first elected President of Liberty-Perry Alumni Association is Donna (Chafin) Staggs WHS '71.[2]

Liberty-Perry Community Schools are located in Liberty and Perry Townships in Delaware County, Indiana.

Athletics

Wapahani High School is a member of the Mid-Eastern Conference. The Wapahani girls volleyball team were class 1A State Champions in 2002 and 2A State Champions in 2011 and 2012. Due to IHSAA rules regarding teams winning titles and the success of the girls volleyball team, Wapahani will compete in class 3A in 2013.
