WMRE began in 1983 with the call letters WEMO. In 1985, students started work to create a modern radio station, and on January 20, 1989, the Voice of Emory, WMRE, began broadcasting. |

At first, WMRE was available to on-campus listeners and was broadcast over the 590AM by a carrier current system throughout the University.
