Career

[edit]

After Auto Mechanic Professional School, Plăcintă returned to his hometown and became a farmer.[2]

In 2011, Plăcintă created the Orthodox Botosănean blog, where he posted humanitarian appeals and religious articles. In the following year, he went on a pilgrimage to Zosin monastery in Botoşani county, where he saw a couple asking for help for their child who was suffering from spastic tetraparesis. The experience made him focus on raising funds for children suffering from severe medical conditions. After his return, Plăcintă created the donation blog Let’s Be People for the cause.[2][5]

Along with his mother, Maria, and brother, George, Plăcintă established Save a Heart Association in 2012. In 2014, he met Marius Bucur, a software engineer working at Google who volunteered to implement online payment solutions on the platform of his organization. Since then, the organization has been helping children with severe medical conditions by raising funds through an online platform. The platform allows families to present their cases to the public, and funds are collected through donations. Through Save a Heart Association, he also organizes charity and fundraising events.[2][6][7][8]

Plăcintă was awarded the title of Citizen of Honor of Botoșani by the city administration in 2021.[9] In 2024, he was named Person of the Year by Romanian Television (TVR) for his humanitarian work.[10]

As of 2024, Plăcintă is serving as the president of Save a Heart Association.[1][11][4]
