Question from Bookformatter (15:51, 3 December 2024)
[edit]Hi I recently joined Wikipedia, and i want to create page for Top CEO's of Pakistan's company, Can you please let me know the roadmap to create Wikipedia page? --Bookformatter (talk) 15:51, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Bookformatter (and sorry for being slow to get back to you!), I'd suggest giving Your first article a read - it's a pretty good starting point. I would like to mention, though, that your article subject sounds like it could be quite opinionated, so while it's totally fine to start writing your draft, it may not be suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia. The Wikipedia:Task center has a list of other things you could try doing as you learn the basics of editing. WindTempos they (talk • contribs) 22:50, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – December 2024
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2024).

Interface administrator changes
- Following an RFC, the policy on restoration of adminship has been updated. All former administrators may now only regain the tools following a request at the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard within 5 years of their most recent admin action. Previously this applied only to administrators deysopped for inactivity.
- Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, T5, has been enacted. This applies to template subpages that are no longer used.
- Technical volunteers can now register for the 2025 Wikimedia Hackathon, which will take place in Istanbul, Turkey. Application for travel and accommodation scholarships is open from November 12 to December 10, 2024.
- The arbitration case Yasuke (formerly titled Backlash to diversity and inclusion) has been closed.
- An arbitration case titled Palestine-Israel articles 5 has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case will close on 14 December.
Hello!
[edit]Doubt I'll ever be using this (and I never have I suppose) but hello new mentor! Glad you're someone who's willing to volunteer and help others, about all I have to say. Setergh (talk) 19:19, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks Setergh. Feeling a little uninspired myself, so I figured it'd help more to point newcomers in the right direction rather than aimlessly look for things to edit myself :) WindTempos they (talk • contribs) 22:52, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
Hello, I am confused on the right way to link some phrases like shouldthe phrase "Arab culture and history" be linked as Arab culture and history or Arab culture and [[Arab history|history]. Thank you. --Theofunny (talk) 11:48, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Theofunny! This really depends on the context, and there's pretty in depth guidance at MOS:LINK. I'd typically lean towards the latter as it's clearer where each link takes you, but you should consider whether you absolutely need to link both, or either (those terms may have been linked previously in the article, for example). [edit]Can I find what ever I search for about Saxan football club since 2020 --Francis teh conteh (talk) 18:44, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Francis teh conteh, if you're looking for any specific article, you can search for it at the top of any page. Otherwise, you might want to try your luck at Wikipedia:Reference desk. WindTempos they (talk • contribs) 22:37, 26 December 2024 (UTC)

Question from LazarusProtagonist (23:19, 29 December 2024)
[edit]Hey GoldRomean! Thanks for being my mentor. I see you are away, so I will speak with WindTempos.
I'm looking forward to contributing to articles in a meaningful way. My other goal is to write an official wikipedia page for the former CTO of 343 Industries (they wrote the halo games). His other family members have pages, he does not.
Otherwise, I will chip in and help source things for tech related articles - I've done some technical writing! --LazarusProtagonist (talk) 23:19, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – January 2025
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2024).
- Following an RFC, Wikipedia:Notability (species) was adopted as a subject-specific notability guideline.
- A request for comment is open to discuss whether admins should be advised to warn users rather than issue no-warning blocks to those who have posted promotional content outside of article space.
- The Nuke feature also now provides links to the userpage of the user whose pages were deleted, and to the pages which were not selected for deletion, after page deletions are queued. This enables easier follow-up admin-actions.
- Following the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been elected to the Arbitration Committee: CaptainEek, Daniel, Elli, KrakatoaKatie, Liz, Primefac, ScottishFinnishRadish, Theleekycauldron, Worm That Turned.
- A New Pages Patrol backlog drive is happening in January 2025 to reduce the number of unreviewed articles and redirects in the new pages feed. Sign up here to participate!
Question from Marcgulden5 (08:05, 10 January 2025)
[edit]hello how do i do my first edit --Marcgulden5 (talk) 08:05, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Marcgulden5, looks like you've already managed it - while I can't see what you wrote, it sounds like what you were writing about in your sandbox was trying to promote or advertise something, which isn't allowed on Wikipedia. Having something you've written be deleted doesn't feel great, but please try not to be discouraged.
- If you'd like to edit something else, you can do just that! Most articles can be edited by anyone, so you can just head over to an article you'd like to improve and click the Edit button. Your edits should be verifiable and written from a neutral point of view. WindTempos they (talk • contribs) 09:22, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
Question from Blahblehblah69 (08:05, 11 January 2025)
[edit]Hello how do I crate an article??? --Blahblehblah69 (talk) 08:05, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- create* Blahblehblah69 (talk) 08:08, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Blahblehblah69, have a look at Your first article. In short, you should make sure the subject of your article doesn't already have one, that it's covered by reliable secondary sources, and that you aren't connected to it. Article writing is hard, so you might find it helpful to try an easier task to get used to editing first. WindTempos they (talk • contribs) 15:25, 11 January 2025 (UTC)

How do you understand the editing format? --Ch333s3man31415 (talk) 03:02, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Ch333s3man31415, no I'm not an AI! Help:Introduction is a good place to start if you'd like to learn how to edit, and gives you the option between using the visual editor, which you may find more straightforward, and the source editor, which is more powerful but has a learning curve. WindTempos they (talk • contribs) 16:13, 18 January 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry, i'm new and sort of cautious, but thanks! Ch333s3man31415 (talk) 03:05, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Does the source editor use html? Ch333s3man31415 (talk) 03:07, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Ch333s3man31415: You can use a fairly limited subset of HTML, but the majority of editing is done through Wikitext, which has a simpler syntax. Ideally, you should use Wikitext where possible. WindTempos they (talk • contribs) 17:41, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

How do I find pages to edit? --Maximod1 (talk) 21:34, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Maximod1, that's up to you, really. I'd suggest finding an article on a topic you're interested in, if you're looking to add content. Otherwise, there's a good list of things to do at the Task Center. WindTempos they (talk • contribs) 23:24, 25 January 2025 (UTC)

Hi, an actor in a couple movies is linked to the wrong person (with the same name). How do I fix that? --MartyInc (talk) 05:52, 26 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hi MartyInc, if the actor you're looking at has their own Wikipedia article, you can use the pipe
|
character in the link text to change the text of a link without changing its destination. - For example:
[[John Smith (actor)]]
would create a link that looks like this: John Smith (actor).[[John Smith (actor)|John Smith]]
would create a link that looks like this: John Smith - but notice that this still takes you to John Smith (actor).
- If the actor you're talking about doesn't have their own article, you can still add a link in this way, but if someone else with the same name already has an article, you might be better off leaving it unlinked to avoid confusion. WindTempos they (talk • contribs) 15:31, 26 February 2025 (UTC)
- To my knowledge, Marshall Cook (actor) does not have a Wikipedia page, but should because he’s been in several movies and has two going to theaters this year (“Shadow Force” and “Not Without Hope.” 104.34.193.3 (talk) 23:19, 26 February 2025 (UTC)
