Help Desk Driver advice
Hey Yellow1996, you gave me advice at the help desk about driver updates for a Win7 laptop. Turned out to just be bad driver update(s) as i managed to restore it to a previous state and all malware and virus scans came back clean (I'm very careful generally). I'm still stuck with a bad driver or two though, which gave me a Bad Pool Caller BSoD and need to update my drivers (At least 8 are out of date). Can you recommend the easiest and safest way to go about this? Thanks ツ Jenova20 (email) 08:26, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
- Do you know what (specific) drivers need to be updated? If so, then search the name of each one in Google and download them manually, only from official sites. If you aren't sure about the source of a certain driver (the webpage looks sketchy or you can't find a place to download it at all) feel free to post the link/name of driver here and I'll have a look at it for you. Good luck! :) --Yellow1996 (talk) 01:08, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
- Is there no easy way to tell which drivers are outdated and have been replaced? I had a Dell laptop a few years back and that would tell me when some of the select drivers became available to update via a special Dell Suite (Moved back to Acer since...Cheaper and more reliable). In 2013 we still can't tell what's out of date on our computers?
- Thanks for the computer advice Yellow1996 ツ Jenova20 (email) 08:44, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
- Well, there are probably a few reliable driver scanning softwares out there; I've just seen how these tools can sometimes ruin whole systems and how they are a common type of software for use in scams (claim to be a legit program but it's actually malicious.) If you are really in need of a driver scanning program, make sure you read reviews of the program you are considering before you download it - chances are, that if it's a scam then somebody else has probably discovered it already. Likewise, I doubt a program with many very positive reviews could be malicious. Another suggestion would be to bring this up on The computing refdesk; some of the other users there will probably have some helpful reccomendations. I'm glad I could be of some help and I wish you the best of luck! :) --Yellow1996 (talk) 01:14, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
- Well, without getting another "reliable" app for it, i think i'll leave it be. Only 1 year left before i replace the thing anyhow. Thanks a lot for the help Yellow1996. Have a nice day ツ Jenova20 (email) 08:32, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
- Ah, well in that case I'd leave it alone too. No problem, glad I could help. :) --Yellow1996 (talk) 01:08, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
Android security
Hey Yellow, this is pretty recent and neutrally worded. I didn't find anything there to disagree with. Thanks ツ Jenova20 (email) 15:41, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- Ah, that's a great article! Definitely cleared things up for me. Thanks, Jenova! :) --Yellow1996 (talk) 15:56, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
