New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023
[edit]Hello Jeffrey R. Clark,
Backlog
Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.
Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.
Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.
You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.
Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

Dear assigned mentor, I am new to Wikipedia and interested in Australian chemistry. Could you kindly provide feedback to the following article I drafted: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Cornforth_Medal Best regards, TuxNexus --TuxNexus (talk) 06:49, 12 October 2024 (UTC)
- @TuxNexus I will be happy to take a look at it. Jeffrey R. Clark • talk • contribs 08:14, 12 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, Jeffrey R. Clark! I have also created another draft: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Lara_Malins TuxNexus (talk) 08:43, 12 October 2024 (UTC)
Hi We have submitted our subject on a new financial services concept called the "Social Financial Union" which is based on doctorate research submitted and approved by renowned Universities of CNAM and ESAM in Paris.
We were rejected and were asked to make changes...we have immediately made the suggested amendments, yet there is still no response.
can you please support us on this matter --Toumouhat (talk) 14:54, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Toumouhat Hi, from a quick read of the draft. You will need to add more reliable sources, as a large portion of it is unsourced. Once you have fixed the listed issues you can then resubmit it for a review. Jeffrey R. Clark • talk • contribs 01:15, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from Velvetneedle (13:14, 21 October 2024)
[edit]Hello, thanks for being a mentor. I have a little trouble navigating the site, sorry if this was somewhere and I missed it.
Is there a list of the kind of things I should write in the notes when I publish an edit? I think there must be a standard way to phrase things and I would love for my notes to be easier to read for other editors.
thanks VN --Velvetneedle (talk) 13:14, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
Invitation to participate in a research
[edit]Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,
BGerdemann (WMF) (talk) 19:26, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
Question from FindingHope2 (11:57, 25 October 2024)
[edit]Can I cite another Wikipedia article as my source? --FindingHope2 (talk) 11:57, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- @FindingHope2 Generally no however, a usable source may be located within the article that you're thinking of using as a source. Jeffrey R. Clark • talk • contribs 19:20, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
Question from Horsefly88888 on List of best-selling video games in the United States by year (03:06, 26 October 2024)
[edit]Hey how do I put that a need for updating because I don't currently have the time for a full edit but I wanna put it in the wiki circulation. Thanks. --Horsefly88888 (talk) 03:06, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
Hi,
What are some of the things a beginner like me should focus on more?
And whether if I should only focus or get engaged with the topics I care about or should I expand my horizons and explore other things, some of which I may not be interested in?
Thanks, Anvi.A --Anvi Ali (talk) 23:22, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for October 29
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Oklahoma State Cowboys football, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Halfback. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
