Think you got the wrong guy

I understand that you like to be first to correct inappropriate edits on Wikipedia pages, but when others beat you to undoing inappropriate edits, don't yell at them for it. If you look at the history, you can clearly see I was undoing the inappropriate edit.

Huh?

The same goes all other articles man: Tamil language, Eastern Min, Hakka Chinese. See for yourself, buddy. 1 famous example in the infox, it does mention the US. Can I add the US to the infox in Viet language article too? Why dont u go around and check all other similar articles instead of focus on just 1 article? This biased movement happens all the time in Wiki.

What I added have sources, hello. Those look too exxagerated have been hidden, dont u see? 1 famous example, stop remove Australia from the mention of the language as a medium of instruction. R u blink or something that u dont even see the source? Also, "dual language program" is not widely term in Australia itself. Stop playing with sources of Hindi (dialects) speakers

I don't know what's wrong with you but the Government of India clearly in statement 1 of the 2001 Census reports states that Hindi is spoken by 422 Million people in India including its dialects, why are you rewriting it as 180 million again and again. Please read the article. This article doesn't include all dialect of Hindi. The article is about Modern Standard Hindi. The Government of India numbers include all types of "Hindi", not just Modern Standard Hindi. Article upgrade assistance request (Pre-translation stage)

This is in reference to a relatively new umbrella article on en-wikipedia named Ceremonial pole. Ceremonial pole is a human tradition since ancient times; either existed in past at some point of time, or still exists in some cultures across global continents from north to south & from east to west. Ceremonial poles are used to symbolize a variety of concepts in several different world cultures.

Through article Ceremonial pole we intend to take encyclopedic note of cultural aspects and festive celebrations around Ceremonial pole as an umbrella article and want to have historical, mythological, anthropological aspects, reverence or worships wherever concerned as a small part.

While Ceremonial poles have a long past and strong presence but usually less discussed subject. Even before we seek translation of this article in global languages, we need to have more encyclopedic information/input about Ceremonial poles from all global cultures and languages. And we seek your assistance in the same.

Since other contributors to the article are insisting for reliable sources and Standard native english; If your contributions get deleted (for some reason like linguistics or may be your information is reliable but unfortunately dosent match expectations of other editors) , please do list the same on Talk:Ceremonial pole page so that other wikipedians may help improve by interlanguage collaborations, and/or some other language wikipedias may be interested in giving more importance to reliablity of information over other factors on their respective wikipedia.

Invitation to PR/review

Hi William, I hope all is well for you. I would like to invite you once again to Wikipedia:Peer review/Norodom Ranariddh/archive1, which I will be closing pretty soon within the next few weeks. I am planning to put this up for FAC in December, and I welcome you to suggest any improvements to Norodom Ranariddh as you see fit or necessary during this interregnum period of time.

Since I'm here, I might as well like to invite you to take a look at Norodom Sihanouk, since I noted that you might also be interested in this topic. It's a bit early at this point of time, as I plan to do more expansions into a couple of sections, as well as another round of self-copyedit over the course of December 2015. But if you have any in-advance opinions on areas that needs to be improved, feel free to let me know anytime :) Over the course of the next few months - hopefully in early or mid 2016 I would put this up on FAC as well.

@Mr Tan: Apologies for the belated reply. I've been following your work on various pages, and it all seems like high quality work. Hopefully, both articles should get through FAC with little difficulty. It will be nice to have more Cambodia-related articles reach FA (or even GA) status. I will look over the articles when/as time permits, but there is probably very little I can add. My strengths tend to be in research and content generation, as well as grammar and minor details. Thanks, I appreciate your encouraging comments! Currently, Ranariddh's article is about 98% complete, pending a few comments at Peer Review, which I would need a bit of time to look into. As for Sihanouk's article, I plan to do an expansion on the "Music" section (I have one journal article on hand for this subtopic). I also plan to relook at some of the earlier points which I have input sometime back on Sihanouk's political career, and that would also need quite a fair bit of time as well. I would put Ranariddh's article for FAC around early December - as I feel that it would be more wise for me to choose a period of time when I have more free time... Simultaneously, I would probably put Sihanouk's article up for a second Peer Review too after I have done the necessary "propping up". In any case, I"ll do the "big work" this coming December. @Schependipity: Thanks for the kind words. It's really still in the beginning stages though, I have a lot more planned for that page when I can find the time. As for Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia, placing a link in your edit summary to the permanent ID of the page revision from which the content was copied is usually good enough. Also, Template:Copied (with the basic parameters filled in) can be put on the talk page. The purpose is to maintain the integrity of the page histories, not to attribute content to any particular editor. I have taken the liberty of placing the proper template on the talk page. Friendly suggestion

Hi William, concerning a seperate topic altogether, I noted that you had created a map at File:Approximate Location of Khmer Dialects.png. I think you may want to shade parts of South Vietnam reflecting Bac Lieu and Soc Trang as well, where 30% of the provincial population are made up of Khmer Krom.

Yeah, it's been a while since I created that map. I had forgotten all about it. Not one of my better works, but it does accurately get the point across. I made it according to the sources I had on hand at the time. I am aware that Khmer Krom inhabit more regions in Southern Vietnam than the map indicates, but I just didn't have sources to back it up. Urdu

Devanagari script is used by Hindi and has historically not been used with Urdu. Some fringe groups have claimed to use this, however, how it historically worked was the Urdu was famous for its Perso-Arabic script and Hindi was famous for its Devanagari script. I think that by including Devanagari script, it sets a bad precedent, because other scripts are also referenced in the article, for example, Roman Script, Kaithi script, etc. Urdu has historically used the Perso-Arabic script. One of the main difference between Urdu and Hindi is the script. Hindi may also use Roman, Perso-Arabic script, etc. However, these are not included in the Hindi article. As an encyclopedia we're not worried about "setting precedents" (good or bad), only in describing verifiable facts. The Urdu article isn't only a "historical" article--it also covers current situations. And, currently, there are well over 50 million Urdu speakers in India, not all of whom are familiar with the Perso-Arabic script and, so, use Devanagari. There are even Urdu publications in India which use Devanagari. As for your argument about the Hindi article, see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Each article is independently written by consensus of editors, what happens in the Hindi article is not a valid argument to apply to the Urdu article.--William Thweatt ^TalkContribs 05:48, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

Bro-country

Glad we reached a compromise and had a productive discussion about this. We may not agree on the reasoning, but I concur with your idea of placing bro-country as a label along with country and other sub-genres on artists' pages. I'll let you make the edits necessary. I'm just cautious when it comes to this issue since the term originated as a very informal, derogatory term bloggers thought of to insult the emerging style of music that they disliked, and so I'm worried that its implementation into Wikipedia may be associated with an agenda some people have to negatively depict this style of music. As long as we work to keep the information factual and unbiased, I'm willing to compromise on this label. It seemed you were a bit defensive at first but I'm glad we kept the discussion from turning into a flame war and managed to work out a productive, reasonable solution. Thanks. The whole situation is kind of confusing. The old sources (from the early 20th century) seemed to coin every Pearic language they "discovered" in the area "Chong". According to Pornsawan Ploykaew (2001), the "Chong" of Northeastern Trat mentioned in Baradat (1941) was probably Kasong as well. The languages are phonologically and lexically so similar that Sidwell (2009) only recognized two languages, Pear and Chong, with Chong/Samre/Kasong/etc. being a dialect chain.[1] The few remaining speakers and those who work specifically on the individual languages, however, claim they are separate and only partially intelligible languages based on longer word lists and developments in register/tone (e.g. Samre has developed tones, Kasong has two registers, Chong proper has four registers).--William Thweatt ^TalkContribs 02:02, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
