Hello, WOSlinker. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Great Asian Railway Journeys".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the db-afc, db-draft, or db-g13 code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! UnitedStatesian (talk) 02:49, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

Why do they show up in the LintErrors then? -- WOSlinker (talk) 07:59, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) BeenAroundAWhile: Every opening tag requires a closing tag. When unclosed tags sometimes happen to render the way you want them to render, the software is compensating for an editing error by guessing where the closing tag should go. There is no guarantee that the software will continue to do so; many similar errors have stopped being worked around by the rendering software.
Unclosed tags flag the page for inclusion in the Lint error list of articles with unclosed tags, a list of errors that WP gnomes are working to eliminate. Please close all tags that you open. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:12, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
Thank you. Another case of software being as dumb as a brick. But I shall cooperate. (Also I don't know what "lint" means except it's at the bottom of my clothes dryer quite often.) BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 04:32, 12 September 2020 (UTC)

Find a Grave template

This template was discussed for deletion back in May 2016. After the latest RSN discussion in October 2016, WP:RSP lists Find a Grave as something that should almost never be used in EL, and practically never as a source. That said, I think this template is no longer needed.

I'd like to nominate it for deletion, but I can't because it's protected; and Twinkle suggests I contact the protecting admin first. Could you temporarily unprotect it so I can nominate it, or can you submit a deletion nomination? Graywalls (talk) 10:38, 3 October 2020 (UTC)

@Graywalls: I've temporarily changed the protection, so can you nominate now. -- WOSlinker (talk) 10:43, 3 October 2020 (UTC)

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add NoACEMM to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:33, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Thank you

Thanks for catching the lower-case params issue - I'm still learning Lua and how it's implemented here, so I'd worried about it in the context of finding a project that had an upper-case character (tbh, I'm wanting to test for non-existance and throw an error instead anyway), but I didn't realise it caused problems otherwise. Is there anywhere you can recommend that details known issues and gotchas? — Sasuke Sarutobi (push to talk) 12:43, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

The project and the category names don't always match exactly, so sometimes you can end up with two parameters. One for the project and an optional one for the category names (which if left blank could use the projcect params value anyway). As you'll see at Category:B-Class articles for example, some of the names start with an upper case letter and some with a lower case letter. -- WOSlinker (talk) 13:49, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:Nunavut road transport articles requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Stop editing my talk archives

I assume you've got some sort of bot that updates the style on announcements - it has twice edited a 2014 archive of my talk page. Please stop it from doing that; archived pages are historical records not only of what was said and done but how things looked. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 15:53, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

@DavidWBrooks: The edit was to make it look the same as it did before. The template border-radius has now been deleted, so some of the items on your archive page will no longer have the rounded corners if you rollback that edit. -- WOSlinker (talk) 16:20, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

RSN / RfC: Sherdog.com Closure Mess

Hello, an uninvolved editor named Buidhe closed Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard/Archive_318#RfC:_Sherdog.com some time ago with the consensus for option 2 but somehow he used the explanation for option 3 in this [1]. That caused some confusion and then some editors in favour of option 1 complained about it here at User_talk:Buidhe/Archive_12#RFC_closure. Then Buidhe changed his closure 2 weeks later in this [2], again, and disregarded votes. He gave the explanation for why he changed the closure and disregarded votes 2 weeks later here at the complaint section User_talk:Buidhe/Archive_12#RFC_closure again. Apperantly he thought 5 options were confusing for editors who voted in the RfC and other editors perhaps voted for wrong options without knowing. So he didn't come to any straightforward conclusion and in the end the closure has become a mess that didn't close anything or reflect the consensus outcome of the RfC (or anything at all for one option or the other) although it was a pretty easy and short one with a rather clear rough consensus.

It would be far better if an experienced administrator like you closed the RfC once and for all, and erase this mess the closing editor caused because it affects a lot of articles in the Wiki and cause edit wars that rely on that RfC. Thanks in advance.78.190.169.97 (talk) 14:23, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

Bookdecade template protection

I noticed that you template protected the Bookdecade template a few years ago, but it only has 99 transclusions, and template protection is usually only used for pages with thousands of transclusions. Could you please consider unprotecting the template or at least decreasing it to semi protection? There hasn't been much if any disruption. Jackattack1597 (talk) 20:32, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

Help fixing Lint errors in welcome template?

Hi, I am wondering if you are willing to use your bot to fix some Lint errors due to substing of a welcome template? The template is already fixed but it was substed to 840 pages according to regex search.

The problematic code is <div style="align: center; padding: 1em; border: solid 2px darkred; background-color: #000080;"> <center><font size="+1" color="yellow">Hi, PAGENAME, <font color="white">Welcome</font> to Wikipedia! </font></center></div></div>

This has 1 high priority and 4 low priority Lint errors. Replacing it will cleanup all 5. The replacement is <div style="text-align: center; padding: 1em; border: solid 2px darkred; background-color: #000080; color:yellow; font-size:large;">Hi, PAGENAME, <span style="color:white;">Welcome</span> to Wikipedia! Editor of the Week

Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week in recognition of your dedication to Wikipedia. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

User:ಮಲ್ನಾಡಾಚ್ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣೊ submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

I nominate WOSlinker to be Editor of the Week for their tireless dedication to Wikipedia. With over 668k edits spread across 14 years, they have done a lot of behind the scenes gnomery across Wikipedia by improving templates and fixing broken markup in pages. When the Template Editor user group was introduced in October 2013, WOSlinker (in their role as an Administrator} played a significant role in the transition by lowering the protection level of over 3,700 templates. Since 2018, they have been one of the most active users involved in the tedious task of cleaning up Lint errors. Overall a head-down=get-things-done type of person who has been a long and valuable contributor to Wikipedia.

Your attempt to fix the div-span-flip lint error in 2016 Colchester Borough Council election did not work. It solved the lint error but messed up the display. Full protected pages with Lint errors

MalnadachBot tasks 5 and 6 are complete. Only 4 full protected pages are left -

I have seen the bot skip many full protected user talk archives while doing task 2. Those probably need to be handled by an adminbot after all the errors are fixed in unprotected pages. ಮಲ್ನಾಡಾಚ್ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣೊ (talk) 12:15, 10 September 2021 (UTC)

I've done those. -- WOSlinker (talk) 17:01, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

Coming back to full protected pages, there are a set of User talk archives that can be unprotected and left as it is. I have noticed that many Admins, especially from before 2010, had a practice of full protecting their own archives. Many of them have since been desysopped due to inactivity and haven't made any edits in years. I had seen one such user before and had their archives unprotected with an RFPP request. See the "User:Mdd4696's talk page archives" section here. There are many more such cases where protection can be removed uncontroversially per protection policy. If you are willing to handle them, I can get you a list of pages and more whenever I find. ಮಲ್ನಾಡಾಚ್ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣೊ (talk) 07:52, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

I'll do them but I think it might be best to still list them at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection, so if you post a them there and give me a ping, I'll do them. -- WOSlinker (talk) 10:42, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

WOSlinkerBot on SqWiki

Hello! I've seen you around on SqWiki helping with some linter errors in the past and I've seen your bot contributions around here. Would you be interested in helping with your bot fix some of our linter errors in your free time? We've got around 15k of them and we're trying to bring the number down to zero (and hopefully keep it there) but our working force is small (basically it's just me and maybe another user or two) so we're looking for all the help that we can get. You're already pretty good on Linter problems so I thought to ask you. I have crat privileges so I can see to make your bot flagged fast if you agree to help. Totally understandable if you can't though. :) - Klein Muçi (talk) 11:36, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

Oh, okay then. Thanks for your help in the past. We appreciate it! :)) - Klein Muçi (talk) 12:44, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
(Just passing through) @Klein Muçi: You may be interested in NicoV's WPCleaner and WikiCleanerBot. – Rummskartoffel 18:06, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
@Rummskartoffel, can you explain to me a bit more how WPCleaner works in regard to linter errors? And how does it differ from AWB? I've already read the manual but I want to be sure. - Klein Muçi (talk) 00:05, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
@Klein Muçi: I don't know any details, unfortunately. I know it can fix at least some linter errors, such as "missing-end-tag", which the bot does with task #7. I don't know how to actually set it up to work automatically, or how it differs from AWB, since I don't use AWB. – Rummskartoffel 10:52, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
@Rummskartoffel, I see. I'm pinging again @NicoV, maybe he can help. Thanks for your insight though! :)) - Klein Muçi (talk) 10:58, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
@Rummskartoffel, Klein Muçi. WPCleaner is a tool to help fix some problems in wikitext (disambiguation links, check wiki errors, Linter errors...). It can work both in bot mode (on enWP and frWP, my bot, WikiCleanerBot, is using it a lot) and in manual mode (dedicated editor with detection of problems, suggestions on how to fix them, some automatic fixes...). I don't use AWB so not sure about the differences... It requires some configuration on each wiki to be more useful (sq:Wikipedia:WikiProject Check Wikipedia/Përkthimi and sq:Përdoruesi:NicoV/WikiCleanerConfiguration for sqWP). Currently, configuration is not complete on sqWP so not all problems are detected or fixed : some errors should be configured (like Wikipedia:WikiProject Check Wikipedia/Translation). I can help configuring if you tell me what tasks you want to do (check what WikiCleanerBot already does for enWP). --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 12:58, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
@NicoV, pretty interesting. Well, currently what we're doing is using w:sq:MediaWiki:Gadget-LintHint.js (I guess you'll know what that is, if not tell me) in identifying problems and if we see a recurring pattern we create a find and replace regex for it in WP:AWB and let one of our 2 bots run that regex throughout the whole namespaces to fix it. This is done over and over again. From what I see from your bot list WCB does that + more so we'd be interested in having as much of its functions approved. Basically everything code syntax related, even small things like extra spaces or other changes of the so-called sort of "cosmetic changes" would be a nice thing to have. Can you write me at my talk page to have a new section about this and guide me in the configuration? I believe it will take a bit because basically I just learned about the existence of this bot so I don't want to overflow WOSlinker's page with notifications. - Klein Muçi (talk) 13:14, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

Infobox name module and stripped tag errors

If you, like me, have been struggling with Linter stripped tag errors caused by infobox name module, I think I have found a viable workaround, perhaps the only one. I considered all sorts of workarounds of the |div=yes type, but the nesting of the tags appeared to make them non-viable. Here's a sample fix that matches the new documentation.

If you need to modify an infobox template that does not have a |module= parameter yet, here's the basic idea. Drop a note here if you have any questions, or if you think of a better way to resolve any of this. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:43, 26 October 2021 (UTC)

I've fixed a few that way already but it does nome the content to a different area in the infobox. That should be ok for most things but just wondering about the native names if that's ok. -- WOSlinker (talk) 08:24, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
It's the least bad resolution that I have been able to come up with so far. The fundamental problem is that this template, which has unbalanced table tags in it, is being wrapped in span or div tags, which will never work, as far as I can tell. People should not be using infobox name module in places that do not support it, but that's a larger battle that I am not interested in fighting right now. Infoboxes that want to use a template like infobox name module to show multiple native names in the right part of the infobox could add a |native_name_template= parameter, or some other parameter with a better name than that, that is not wrapped in other tags. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:05, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
I forgot to tell you that I found a much better way to fix this problem and have applied it at Infobox person, Infobox musical artist, and other places. It means that you can't have infobox name module and |native_name_lang= in the same infobox, so remove the latter if it causes trouble. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:54, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
I got the stripped tags under 200, onto one screen, during a long video conference that I didn't have to pay complete attention to. There are still a few easy ones left, but they are getting more difficult. Drop me a note if you have any questions. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:21, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

Image linter issues on WP:RECOG pages?

Could you please clarify edits like this one: Special:Diff/1056245446/1057251066? WP:RECOG pages are populated by User:JL-Bot, so any such fix image lint edits will be overwritten the next time the bot edits the page. Wouldn't be better if the bot didn't include these, I assume, WP:Linter issues? That is, to report it at User talk:JL-Bot to allow the bot operator to improve it, so that manual lint fixes are not needed? —andrybak (talk) 12:53, 27 November 2021 (UTC)

It seems as though if an image title contains numberpx then the page gets added to the Bogus file options lint error list. Adding some nowiki wrapping removes them. -- WOSlinker (talk) 20:03, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
This is a false positive Linter error that can be ignored until T276675 is fixed. – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:02, 27 November 2021 (UTC)

Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled

A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. Hi, could you please give me advice on a user conduct dispute (involving me)?

Hi. I've seen you on the list of active administrators. Presently, I am dealing with a user conduct dispute over at the article Talk:China–Lithuania relations. Evidently, the article is political by nature, so it's a controversial topic (it's especially controversial due to recent events that have occurred in the news). With that being said, the user conduct dispute that has occurred on this talk page, which involves multiple IP users harassing me with personal attacks, has nothing to do with the article itself. The initial cause of all of the disputes was an original edit made by me to the main article back in November, wherein I mass-deleted several edits by an IP user that were completely unsourced and seemed to push a certain bias. After this edit, multiple IP users began trying to force the unsourced edits back into the article, in turn accusing me myself of being biased (which I don't really care about). In fact, another registered user, Intforce, recently came over and reverted the edits of the various IP users; this user agreed with me, saying that unsourced edits that are reverted should stay reverted. It is also important to note that I opened up a talk segment in the corresponding talk page immediately upon performing my original mass revert, inviting discussion about the reverted edits (so, I evidently did not try to sweep my reversion under the rug). It was in this talk section that multiple users began personally harassing me, further accusing me of holding bias (against China, presumably). I don't really care about being accused of bias; this is a trivial matter to me. However, I believe that the line was crossed when one user began pulling material from my own user page in an attempt to incriminate me; I was not actually worried about being "incriminated" per se, but I was very concerned to see relatively sensitive information about me being posted on this public talk article. Originally, I did not intend to escalate the dispute (and I still don't, which is why I haven't taken this to the official channels yet), and I began conducting mild procedures in an attempt to resolve the dispute, such as removing the offending material and politely informing the users on their talk page that I believed that they were harassing me. Subsequently, a user has reverted my resolution edits at the talk page and is now attempting to edit war with me; obviously, I don't want to edit war, because that would incriminate me, so now this is my best option, it seems. I'm sorry for the long post, but I would really appreciate it if you could help me out here. By the way, I have a history of having been banned from Wikipedia once in the past, which is part of the reason that I don't want to escalate the dispute. Generally speaking, I'm a good editor with good intentions, and I can sometimes get a bit hot-headed, though I am definitely not a person who intentionally behave poorly. Thank you, and have a nice day/evening. Jargo Nautilus (talk) 13:59, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

Hi Jargo Nautilus, it's not really my area of expertise. You would be better off at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents or one of the other pages referenced at the top of that page. -- WOSlinker (talk) 08:24, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
Hi, WOSlinker. I contacted you because the dispute resolution article said that I should contact an administrator before opening up an official case regarding the dispute. I essentially just picked you at random from the list of active administrators. The dispute in question doesn't really fall into any of the listed categories. I've contacted a second administrator apart from you. This administrator actually reverted an edit made by the accused user on the article in question earlier today. I think I will first wait for the second administrator to respond to me before opening up an official case on the noticeboard. Thanks for your time. Replacing template redirects?

I'm just curious why you are replacing template redirects in old archive pages. Is this part of a bigger plan or project? – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:07, 10 December 2021 (UTC)

Those particular ones, I was just tidying up as there wasn't many of that redirect. I'm currently replacing the col-begin usage with div col where it's easy enough to do. -- WOSlinker (talk) 17:39, 10 December 2021 (UTC)

Template fix on List of NHL on-ice officials

Why is div col necessary? I don't want to pick a fight on the internet, but the list wasn't looking fine either way (yours or mine). My schedule is prohibiting me from finishing the fix. If I had my way, I would keep the two columns until I finish with my fix. Mandoli (talk)

Div col is more dynamic. You just set the width of a column and then the number of columns used depends on the width of your screen. The other method uses a fix number of columns, which can be ok sometimes as well, but can also lead to a lot of blank space if the screen is wider and can be rather squashed on a narrow screen. -- WOSlinker (talk) 10:14, 11 December 2021 (UTC)

More alternative text for images in infoboxes

Hello! (1) Continuing the discussion started at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums#Alternative text for album cover in infobox, could you please take a look at Infobox food? (2) Has there been any other recent discussion that you're aware of about alternative text in infoboxes? Mudwater (Talk) 00:38, 17 November 2021 (UTC)

Hello! Here's another one if I'm not mistaken: Infobox musical artist Mudwater (Talk) 20:51, 26 November 2021 (UTC)

This one already sets the title to the caption parameter. -- WOSlinker (talk) 21:52, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
From my perspective -- and unlike the previous examples -- it's setting the alternative text to be the same as the caption. That's good for a default, but it should be overrideable with the "alt" parameter. Mudwater (Talk) 22:40, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
Which way do you prefer it, title={{{Img_alt|{{{alt|{{{Img_capt|{}}}}}}}}}} or title={{{Img_capt|{{{caption|{{{Img_alt|{}}}}}}}}}}? -- WOSlinker (talk) 23:06, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
I appreciate the question, but I'm not up to speed on how this works, so I don't understand the two coding options. And on top of that, I don't know what the "title" is either. Mudwater (Talk) 23:27, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
Mudwater, If you had both caption=A and alt=B parameters in the infobox, would you want it to show A or B in the tooltip? -- WOSlinker (talk) 23:44, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
B, please! I've been thinking that the "alt", when specified, should be what's displayed in the tooltip, but perhaps this perspective is overly simplistic. Mudwater (Talk) 00:06, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
Lovely! Thank you. Mudwater (Talk) 11:12, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
Then there's Infobox television. Could you please update that one also? Mudwater (Talk) 15:18, 18 December 2021 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Thousands of missing closing div tags

If you are looking for a potential bot task, it appears that some, most, or all of these pages are missing three closing div tags. I haven't done a full investigation to figure out what sort of pattern(s) to match, but all of the ones I have looked at appear to need three closing tags at the end of the page. – Jonesey95 (talk) 08:47, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

No idea what you are fixing or why or what benefit we get from this (actually don’t care either) but its infuriating to have so many dead conversations appear on my watchlist. some time ago the SuLconnection failed - and I cannot find what password I had

any thoughts or even suggestions where to go or how to get back in appreciated. Thanks. JarrahTree 07:33, 6 February 2022 (UTC)

Template:Image frame/doc

This edit that you made last year to Template:Image frame/doc seems to have broken the display of the template parameters at the top of the page. I'm not very familiar with JSON; any idea what went wrong? Thanks, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 06:26, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

I don't think it was my edit but I've fixed the info at the top. -- WOSlinker (talk) 08:12, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
