Thanks for the barn caves

Much appreciated. I was inspired when I visited Pair non Pair a couple of weekends ago with my brother and his family (an American reunion in France!) and found the navbox on the French wikipedia. I was lucky to get some great technical help. But I have to take issue with you - it's all archaeology. Sure, some of the writers of the academic papers are in odd disciplines such as archaezoology, and some of the contributors may be in related sciences, but it's all archaeology. Some is paleontology as well of course and some of the articles clearly are collaborations between archaeologists and paleontologists, but also some of the archaeologists are writing about paleontology related subjects. Archaeologists draw on a wide range of disciplines for their studies, something that makes it such a fascinating subject. Doug Weller talk 11:28, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Toquepala Caves, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Toquepala. Size of images

Hi Tisquesusa. Thanks for your edits to Timeline of Bogotá‎. On the matter of whether or not to adjust image sizes, Wikipedia:Picture tutorial recommends: "In general, do not define the size of an image unless there is a good reason to do so: some users have small screens or need to configure their systems to display large text; "forced" large thumbnails can leave little width for text, making reading difficult. In addition, forcing a "larger" image size at say 260px will actually make it smaller for those with a larger size set as preference." -- M2545 (talk) 11:30, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

Cave Navbox

Hi Mate! Just wanted to ask what is the status of the Navbox. You had declared it resolved, but the deletion tag is still active. BTW - a big, big Thank You for your eloquent and passionate defense of it. All The Best! Wikirictor (talk) 07:25, 17 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi fellow caveman, I think that tag is there until the term for "deletion" is over (2 weeks?). Horrible that some nobody (who doesn't discuss, add or work constructively) can dump an ugly tag on a beautiful navbox and that we have to suffer the view of it for weeks, but I guess that is how the "community" of Wikipedia is sometimes "working"... No problems, thanks for your edits and comments and the caveman recognition. Busy with other articles at the moment, but when I find the time I will do some more maintenance on the caves. Good weekend! Tisquesusa (talk) 19:07, 17 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi Guys! With "fellow Wikipedians at the Paleo Department" i of course meant Doug Weller, User:Joe Roe and User:Fraenir, but i did not dare to simply speak for someone else without consent. So i did not put your names in it. Doug - i am aware that the Navbox is your baby. The "Thank you" was for his energetic defense of the Navbox in the Delete discussion. Proud to work with all of you. Fair enough and I know you know about the navbox. And he deserves his thank you. I hope to find more time to work on this and bought a couple of books to help. Doug Weller talk 14:45, 18 September 2016 (UTC)

San Agustín

Hello Tisquesusa, hope you're keeping well. I know they're not Muisca sites, but I wanted to ask if you could please run a quick eye over San Agustín Archaeological Park and Valley of the Statues (both are very short articles so it won't take more than a couple of minutes) and decide whether they are in fact talking about the same place, as I have suggested in the merger proposal on the talk page? If there is agreement that they are the same location and it would be best to merge them, we can make a start on improving these badly written and badly sourced articles on unquestionably one of Colombia's most important archaeological sites – there's no point in working to improve both if they can be done under the same merged article. Feel free to ping anybody else you know working on archaeology articles who might know about these articles. Thanks. Richard3120 (talk) 21:35, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi @Richard3120:, thanks for letting me know about this. To my shame I must say I haven't visited San Agustín yet, and I am no way an expert on the matter. In general also I like to keep articles that somehow may be merged as separate as possible. But in this case your assessment would be right I guess; the article on the fr:wiki links back to the Archaeological Park which is the UNESCO World Heritage site and essentially they describe the same; the San Agustín archaeological site and nothing more than that. So merging seems the best option. There are lay-out errors in both and before I tackle them I'd like to know which one to keep to not do double work. Are you back in Bogotá? If you like we may meet in person to have a good chat on the Colombia topics, if you consider the privacy more important, no problems, I understand perfectly. Let me know and we'll work on it. Good weekend, Tisquesusa (talk) 03:26, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
Oh, you should definitely go, it's an amazing place to visit... the various sites are actually spread out over many kilometers, so it's a job to get round and see everything.
Yes, I have no problem meeting up in person... the only thing is that I have some minor surgery planned for October 21, so I won't be out and about for a few weeks after that date. I don't know if there's anyone else in Bogotá who has a keen interest in seeing the articles improved – I know you and a couple of others have been working on the Bogotá article itself, which should be a real priority given it and the next four major cities of Colombia are level 4 vital articles. Richard3120 (talk) 18:06, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
Ah, I hope it's not serious, the surgery?! I am very busy the second half of October too, so that would fit. Somewhere next week or so? My email account is active, so the best way to talk about that?
Yes, I still have to see a lot in Colombia and San Agustin is a highlight I want to visit, Huila in general (Tatacoa, other sites) I don't know yet. Just worked a bit on the Bogotá template that was before only containing the localities, but now has more topics about Bogotá. The main article indeed is vital and still needs a lot of improvement. Just like Tunja, by the way, the two former "capitals" of the Muisca. I moved out of expensive Chicó an estrato lower (a page I am planning to make in whatever future too; the estratos of Colombia). Cheers, Tisquesusa (talk) 19:29, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
Not sure what your e-mail is: is there a link to it on your user page? By the way, the estrato divisions are already mentioned in Social class in Colombia, under the section "Official strata divisions", if you want a starting point for your proposed article – the current one is really an essay based on a single source at the moment and could do with a whole lot of rewriting. Aguazuque

Dear Tisquesusa, I just read your Aguazuque article, and was very impressed. You did an excellent job! I was very interested to read all this new info. I just made some minor changes here and there, mostly to clarify the style.

I was busy with some other work and research recently, such as the Japanese Jomon. And now, I'd like to get back more to S America.

Just one question. This sentence in the article was unclear, so I changed it to,

"Just like in the remains of similar age on the Altiplano, such as Gachalá, Nemocón and Tequendama, in Aguazuque the human dental remains showed evidence of caries."

Is this correct now?

Keep up the good work! Eio-cos (talk) 22:13, 1 October 2016 (UTC)

Ha @Eio-cos:, thanks so much for your edits, they are a real improvement.
You're welcome.

On the caries; no, it's the other way around; the caries is unique for Aguazuque, so different from the other contemporaneous sites where no evidence for caries was found, in Aguazuque it was. So I'll rephrase that to reflect the difference.

Yes, that was useful.

The clarification needed you added on the fireplaces; what wasn't clear? That the fireplaces were found surrounding the living spaces or that evidence was found within them? I'll check the source again and also improve based on your question for clarification if you can elaborate, please.

OK, now I understand. Sorry for my confusion. I've already fixed the passage.

Thanks again and good luck with the Japanese archaeology, anytime welcome back to South America. Have a good day, cheers, Tisquesusa (talk) 14:26, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

Of course you probably know that these two regions are linked, according to some scholars. I'm quite curious about both areas, but there's never enough time for everything! :( All the best to you. Eio-cos (talk) 14:49, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

Chinchorro culture

Hi, Tisquesusa, check out new article Chinchorro culture. Maybe you can add some more there. Should have been such an article long ago. Cheers. Eio-cos (talk) 13:46, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi @Eio-cos:, I agree, the culture should have been there before, but now it is! I rewrote some text and added some things, take a look. I have one question; in the intro (and in the es:wiki article) it says "from 9000 BP", but later the late Pleistocene and 11,000 BP is said. That conflicts, but I didn't want to but {clarify} tags. Could you take a look? Well done, thanks, Tisquesusa (talk) 15:21, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
Dear Tisquesusa, I’ve already made some changes in the article to clarify this matter. Thank you for your interest, and for the great changes you’ve contributed. Together, we did a pretty good job! :) I especially appreciate your cleaning up the Wikidata mess that was happening before – now there are 2 separate clusters of articles in Interwiki. (I still don’t know how to do it myself, I should learn!)
I’ll make some more additions soon, and then the article can maybe even qualify for ‘Good Article’? Cheers, Eio-cos (talk) 15:32, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, I have read some of your edits and indeed it's getting better and better. The "Good Article" category seems quite random at times. Coincidentally yesterday I checked some articles and was surprised they qualified as "good". The Norte Chico civilization article where you worked on a lot is even a Featured Article, but imho it doesn't belong there; needs expansion, text checks and more. I added some unused images from Commons to that one. I like our constructive cooperation, let's keep reviewing each others articles and get them even better. I am writing a new Muisca one at the moment, will let you know when it's up for publication. Yes, the wikidata is sometimes a bit screwed up and you need to edit all the fields to get it right, I am also learning that. Cheers, Tisquesusa (talk) 16:04, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
What I especially like about your style is that you don't translate 1-to-1 from other wikis, but write a new article. I do the same and I think that is much more valuable, especially for those readers who manage multiple languages; it doesn't really inform the reader if you read the same text in the other wikis again. Keep up the good work, I keep following on! Tisquesusa (talk) 16:06, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Tisquesusa! Sorry for late reply - have been quite busy recently. Muisca art is a very informative article. I've already tried to polish up the style a bit, and will do some more later. You must have invested a lot of your time in it. I’m also planning to add some stuff about early metallurgy because new info is coming out now.

Yes, the "Good Article" category is somewhat arbitrary, like so many other things in Wikipedia :) But we have to work with what we have. Myself, I’m always interested in learning new things, and wiki is perfect for that. I like to ‘excavate’ Wikipedia, because there’s always something more hiding in this labyrinth, if you just know where & how to look.

Sometimes, the "Good Article" tag was given years ago, when the standards may have been different, and it just remains. Norte Chico was the first big early archaeology breakthrough for Peru, but later a lot more has been found.

Yes, I usually don't translate 1-to-1, also because often the source text is not all that good. Just take what you can. I like interwiki because I do know quite a few languages. Very often you find in another language what you can’t find in English. S American archaeology is really burgeoning now, finally! All the best. Eio-cos (talk) 17:42, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Caño Paujil requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Good article reviews

You do not seem to have finished the good article reviews of Laguna del Maule (volcano) and Koh-i-Sultan. See this page for instructions on finishing the review. GA review

I see that you've nominated 2016 European Grand Prix/GA1 for the WikiCup, but there are several problems with it. You need to close-out the review properly before submitting it and you need to give the nominator at least a week to respond. I am therefore removing it from your submissions list; resubmit it once those steps have been done. Be advised, while you are giving the article a thorough review, you may be asking for material that is not available yet. Just something to keep in mind.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 00:50, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

Same with La Reforma (caldera)/GA1.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 00:51, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
@Sturmvogel 66:, I don't understand what more steps to take? They are put "on hold" as there are several things to be improved in both articles. The WikiCup page does not state that the reviews need to be successful (passed articles), it is about reviewing GA nominated content, right? If not, the WikiCup points system would be a motivation to pass articles that are actually according to a critical eye not GA (yet). What I saw happening with reviews by others actually, but that's not up to me to decide. Tisquesusa (talk) 01:05, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
You are correct, the review does not need to pass the article. But you have not finished the review because the original nominator has not had enough time to respond to your comments and you have not had time to see if his changes are satisfactory. Please look over the whole reviewing process as outlined in Wikipedia:Good article nominations/Instructions.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 01:45, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
Then you have to talk to your colleague above here on my Talk page; I mentioned the 7 day period and that was wrong. Now you say I need to wait 7 days. What is it? Tisquesusa (talk) 02:08, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

Declined speedy deletion nomination of Nahuel Pennisi

Hello Tisquesusa. Speedy deletion work is important and I do appreciate the effort. I would just ask that you please review the criteria carefully because accuracy is also important. On that issue, I have declined your speedy deletion nomination of Nahuel Pennisi as an article that does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the topic under CSD A7. That criterion did not apply because "not notable" is not a deletion criterion, nor is "personal page", but the closest criterion is A7. However, that criterion requires no credible claim of significance and no potential coverage in reliable sources that could show notability, both of which are present in this article. Appable (talk | contributions) 21:09, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

Hey @Appable:, it's the first time I put a Db tag on an article, I thought it was for self-promoted non-notable things. The "article" is a collection of non-notable links (Facebook pages, YouTube videos, etc.). If it wasn't rightly placed in Db, then not. I won't touch it further, far enough more interesting things to do. Thanks for the links to the guidelines, browsing through them already gives me a headache, so I return to WikiDragon work. ;-) Cheers, Tisquesusa (talk) 21:34, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
If you want to nominate something for deletion through a consensus-based discussion (as should be done for non-notable entities), you can use the WP:AFD process - which requires quite a few steps, so I would recommend using WP:Twinkle to automate them. The speedy deletion (process that you used) criteria are very specific because the deletion bypasses consensus-based approaches. If it's pretty clear the article will be deleted in accordance with Wikipedia guidelines, but does not meet one of the speedy deletion criteria, you can also use WP:PROD which means articles will be deleted within one week if the proposed deletion is not challenged by anyone. Appable (talk | contributions) 00:54, 3 February 2017 (UTC)

Fueguino

Greetings, do you think that Fueguino would stand a chance at GAN? There is not much information available on that volcanic system. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 14:16, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

Hi @Jo-Jo Eumerus:, I think it does. Little information is not the problem, as the mineral Widgiemoolthalite just got promoted to GA status, for being complete in including all the available information that is there to find. If the regional geology of this unique volcanic field is expanded and the information that is available included, I certainly think it qualifies as GA. I'll take a look at your other volcanoes that are still on my review list this week. Cheers, Tisquesusa (talk) 14:51, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
Technically, the issue is that there isn't much more to say about the topic than what is currently in the article. Expanding it further would be difficult, thus. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 15:04, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

Article titles

Just a friendly heads up that capitalization doesn't affect Wikipedia's search, so you don't need to make redirects like Soacha river that just point to Soacha River. --Fabrictramp | talk to me 22:53, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

Hi, it does not affect the search, but when someone creates an article with as (red) link Soacha river, then it shows up as red, while the article already exists under the correct naming with capital. To avoid such a situation (I had this situation with the creation of an article where it already existed under the (then wrong) uncapitalised version), I make all possible links redirects. March 2017 WikiCup newsletter

And so ends the first round of the competition, with 4 points required to qualify for round 2. It would have been 5 points, but when a late entrant was permitted to join the contest in February, a promise was made that his inclusion would not result in the exclusion of any other competitor. To achieve this, the six entrants that had the lowest positive score of 4 points have been added to the 64 people who otherwise would have qualified. As a result, some of the groups have nine contestants rather than eight. Our top four scorers in round 1 were:

  • Scotland Cas Liber, last year's winner, led the field with two featured articles on birds and a total score of 674.
  • European Union Iry-Hor, a WikiCup newcomer, came next with a featured article, a good article and a tally of 282 bonus points for a score of 517. All these points came from the article Nyuserre Ini, an Ancient Egyptian pharaoh,
  • Japan 1989, another WikiCup newcomer, was in joint third place at 240. 1989 has claimed points for two featured lists and one good article relating to anime and comedy series, all of which were awarded bonus points.
  • South Australia Peacemaker67 shared third place with five good articles and thirteen good article reviews, mostly on naval vessels. He is also new to the competition.

The largest number of DYKs have been submitted by Vivvt and The C of E, who each claimed for seven, and MBlaze Lightning achieved eight articles at ITN. Carbrera and Peacemaker67 each claimed for five GAs and Krishna Chaitanya Velaga was well out in front for GARs, having reviewed 32. No featured pictures, featured topics or good topics yet, but we have achieved three featured articles and a splendid total of fifty good articles.

So, on to the second round. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article candidate, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. One solved, other left, as is unknown which Santa Comba is meant, might even be in Galicia. Tisquesusa (talk) 17:25, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Citation Barnstar
Dear Tisquesusa, thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia, especially your recent creation of Antonio de Lebrija, which is well cited . Keep up the good work! You are making a difference here! With regards, AnupamTalk 17:12, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

Tisquesusa, I saw that you changed the final icon on the review page, but that doesn't actually close the review. The instructions on how to do that is at the instructions for finishing a GA review under Failing. If you'd prefer, I can do these steps for you this time; just let me know. Thanks. Using class icons in the see also section

So far, at least three editors have reverted your inclusion of class icons in the see also section of articles, namely, me, Plastikspork and Redrose64. Yet, you persist, reverting any edits that remove them. There is consensus to not include class icons in articles. Stop and gain consensus before adding them back. As explained both in the comments of the articles themselves, and in the MOS of the Muisca-related articles, it is to highlight the difference in quality between the selected articles interesting for further reading. Not every article is the same and it's a guide to the reader to the best quality articles and/or an invitation to expand on articles that are of an inferior quality. Wikipedia is large enough to focus your energy on, so there's no need to destroy my hard work and creating extra work again. Tisquesusa (talk) 19:03, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
again, gain consensus at MOS:ICON first. you have three editors who disagree with you. Frietjes (talk) 19:08, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Antonio de Nebrija, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Grammarian. Eastern hills FAC

Hi there. I noticed that you listed Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Eastern Hills, Bogotá/archive1 at the Wikicup reviews page: but the process for FAC is a little different than GAN, and requires the nominator to create the nomination page, and transclude it, which you have not done. There are instructions at WP:FAC. Vanamonde (talk) 13:35, 19 March 2017 (UTC)
