He seem solidly notable to you? Searches at News, Books, browsers and Highbeam found several links but mostly passing mentions and all of them still question that article, which currently seems promotional and in need of serious improvements. I considered nominating but am not entirely sure especially of its outcome. Cheers, SwisterTwister talk 06:24, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SwisterTwister. Kayode Soyinka is a Notable Nigerian journalist. He appears to meet WP:GNG per significant coverages in multiple independent reliable sources. My biggest concern about the article is the promotional tone but that can be addressed. Will you consider to help with cleanup? Warm regards. Wikigyt@lk to M£ 07:21, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wikicology, I typically ask Nikkimaria—whom I consider to be an excellent close paraphrasing/copyvio/plagiarism checker—to look over articles where there have been issues, or where I've seen instances that I think may rise to the level of close paraphrasing but I'm not entirely sure do so. In this case, she mentioned exactly the passage I'd been concerned about. Over the years I've found that sometimes she finds things I don't see, or considers matters that I thought might be suspicious as not being of significant concern. I hope you'll understand why I'll continue to wait for Nikkimaria's response once I've asked for it. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:53, 17 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I trust her judgement and there is no doubt that she's better than I in that area. Seasons greetings. Wikigyt@lk to M£ 18:06, 17 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Wikicology. Thank you for assessing the article about WIMBIZ. I would like to ask you if you could help User:Olaniyan Olushola to overcome the multiple issues of the article. Since you are much more experienced than Olushola (7,416 vs. 723 edits) you might point out to him in more detail what is missing in the article (neutral point of view, nonjudgmental language, opposing views). Thank you very much, --Gereon K. (talk) 07:39, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the heads up, Gereon. Olaniyan Olushola earlier sent me a private mail requesting my help before this was moved to main space and I helped him to re-structured the introduction section. I also pointed out to him in more detail what is missing in the article (neutral point of view, nonjudgmental language, opposing views). I spent several minutes to highlight these problems and how they can address it. I decided not to fix it myself because I believe the best way editors can learn is to allow them to do things themselves and then we can help to fix minor problems. Doing this we make them a better Wikipedian. I advised Olaniyan not to move this to main space until the issues are addressed but I'm perplexed and disappointed to see that he actually moved the article to mainspace without addressing the problems. I expect Olaniyan to fix these problems today per my earlier suggestions and they are free to also contact other editors for advice. I will be glad to move the page back to their sandbox, if they choose not to fix the problems today. Wikigyt@lk to M£ 08:48, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Femi Otedola

[edit]

Hi Wikicology, I hope you're well. I've been working on a user space draft (see here) which aims to address the issues currently affecting Femi Otedola. The current article has a few problems and is very limited, as it's confined to his Forbes listing and Zenon Petroleum and Gas, and includes nothing on African Petroleum and its rebrand to Forte Oil Plc, which is of course now by far his main business interest. A very large part of the article is completely unreferenced. My draft attempts to fill in those gaps and bring it all up to date, and also includes some of his other investments – in insurance, shipping and real estate – and his role at Transcorp. It is balanced and thoroughly referenced, and adds a couple more international titles in Reuters and BBC. If you have time to take a look at it and see whether it might serve as a good replacement for the current article, that would be much appreciated. As stated on my user page, I have a COI in that Femi Otedola is my client. Many thanks. HOgilvy (talk) 17:29, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi HOgilvy, please accept my sincere apology for the extremely slow response, I've been busy with wikimedia community work. There is no doubt that the new version is more better than the former one but you never mention the case involving him and Farouk Lawan. I found this, this, this, this to mention few. There are multiple reliable sources to write a comprehensive section on the scandal. What do you think? Wikigyt@lk to M£ 22:37, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) The BBC reported "Mr Otedola is a close ally of President Goodluck Jonathan and a major financier of the ruling People's Democratic Party." and there is more info here and presumably further sources are available that should be included. @HOgilvy: please explain why the bribery was omitted in your draft. SmartSE (talk) 23:27, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Wikicology, hi SmartSE, I did include a paragraph on Farouk Lawan – at the bottom of the 'Zenon Petroleum and Gas' subsection. The sources you've linked to here are consistent with it: Zenon was on the list of companies under investigation (I also included the sum it was alleged to have owed), it emerged that a bribe allegedly took place and that it was filmed, and it was then reported that Femi Otedola had been acting with police in a sting operation – both the Sahara Reporters and Bella Naija sources you've linked to include these two paragraphs:
The police also confirmed that the SSS worked with Mr. Otedola to videotape the bribe and also snooped on several phone conversation between the Zenon executive and the legislator.
Police sources said that they believed Mr. Farouk contacted them to report that he was in possession of bribe money only after he realized that the currencies were marked. “I think he did it to save face,” said one police source.
The Premium Times source you've linked doesn't seem to be dated but it may be slightly earlier as it doesn't report that police confirmation, only Otedola's claim – which appears from the other two sources to have been confirmed by the police – that he was acting with the SSS. The Premium Times also doesn't have the detail that police believed that Lawan, having initially denied he took a bribe, subsequently changed his story. Lawan was charged, as I've also included, but I can't find a source mentioning any conclusion to those proceedings. No proceedings were brought against Otedola.
There is also a paragraph on his political donations at the bottom of the 'Other investments and positions' section, which I've updated to include support for Goodluck Jonathan and to be specific that his support has been for the PDP. HOgilvy (talk) 10:01, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Kozhikode East

[edit]

Thank you Wikigy for the kind review and I have copied the link CITSTRUCT for future guidance. Please note that the city of Kozhikode has three kinds of boundaries: those decided by the local body, the district administration and the provincial government. The popular conception of city boundary can vary from all this. The eastern parts of the city are considered as part of the city by everyone but they have separate panchayat raj administrations of their own. Since creating separate articles for them can be confusing because of overlapping boundaries, merging them into a single article called ‘’’Kozhikode East’’ will make more sense. Prof. Manna (talk) 10:58, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Prof tpms, I can't remember raising any concern about the city's boundaries. I only pointed you to the guidelines on writing about Indian cities which you are expected to follow in tidying up Kozhikode East. I will be glad to seeing improvement to Kozhikode East based on the advise. Please always ensure to start a new topic under a new heading. see WP:TP for how to use talk page. You may also want to read WP:Indentation for how to respond to comments on talk pages. Let me know if you require any further information. Wikigyt@lk to M£ 11:05, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Wikigy the tidying up process is on the way. Just give me a few days' time.
