I've blocked him; definitely a sock. The name similarity, along with the behaviour (messing with the talk page of another blocked sock) is enough for me. Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :) 01:23, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I'm responding to your message.

Quote: "Hi, the recent edit you made to Jonah Hill has been reverted, as it appears to be unconstructive. Steve Crossin (talk to me) 10:43, 25 March 2008 (UTC)"

I'm sorry I made that change. I was just joking around, I don't usually do that sort of stuff. So I hope you can forgive me for that on the behalf of the Wikipedia community. Thank you.

Hey

Good job so far on Edgar. Also, you should go for the award WP:CROWN. One of the most important awards that a user can get. See if you can meet the criteria for it and go for it.--Lan Di (talk) 13:20, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

  • Are you going to try to get a triple crown? Maybe you should get one prior to becoming an admin. After all, you have so many stars already, it can't be that hard to get a triple crown after all those stars.--Lan Di (talk) 14:12, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
  • No, the criteria for a Triple crown are quite difficult. And, to be honest, I'm not much of an article writer. It may be something I can go for in the future, but me getting the mop will definetly be something I get before the triple crown. In my opinion. Steve Crossin (talk to me) 14:21, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Well, if you want to write an article, go to requested articles, there are plenty of articles that aren't difficult to write, especially in the military section, and using templates already in place.--Lan Di (talk) 14:28, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Yeah, I have a list that I'm going to research at the State library tomorrow, see if I can make a few DYKs. But, I really am working on articles, mediation, and vandal reversion. I added another reference for Edgar today, I saw something mentioned in the article in the episode, so I cited it :) Any other 24 articles need refs? Preferably from Season 4, or 5. Not Season 1-3, I've never seen them. Steve Crossin (talk to me) 14:41, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
  • That's too bad, season 1 and 3 are really good. Personally I own all the season DVDs and have preordered season 1 special edition. You should watch season 1-3, as they are relevant to all the other seasons. Examples include Terry Bauer, Kim Bauer, Operation Nightfall, Tony Almeida, Michelle Dessler, Kate Warner, Ryan Chappelle, George Mason, and many other important characters, To become an expert in 24, season 1 is especially important in the development of the character of Jack Bauer.--Lan Di (talk) 14:46, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Yeah, I'm downloading Seasons 1-3 when I can. I downloaded Season 4, which I liked :) I'm actually downloading in reverse order. So I'll like see Season 1 last. lolz. But, Chase Edmunds needs citing. All of them do. I just can't cite Chase. I don't have the episodes. Steve Crossin (talk to me) 14:55, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Oh, downloading, I suspect it is legal :P, as you wouldn't do anything unethical. I did that for season 6 until the DVDs came out here. However, all traces of that are gone, as I wiped the drives clean to remove any evidence that they existed, and can never be recovered, as I zero filled the drive.--Lan Di (talk) 14:58, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
  • No, I haven't. I'm doing other things and this mediator doesn't seem as though he is unbiased, as he totally undid everything DBD did. Personally I want DBD back on, as his suggestions were excellent. Now this person only wants to deal with one problem when something else is causing the problem if you know what I mean.--Lan Di (talk) 15:22, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
  • As a mediator myself, reviewing DBD's suggestions, I'd say that he was out of line. Specifically, suggesting the assigning of a mentor to Lucy. While I may agree that she may need a mentor, as mediators it is not our place to impose these sort of decisions on users. Have a look at my mediation page, it's the olive laurel wikipedia globe on my menu bar. As mediators our job is to rule on content, and not on editors. This isn't biased, this is just our job. I have a personal COI in this case, that's the reason I'm not mediating. And I'm serious here. Seddon told me himself he'd have had me mediate this, however I'm a 24 article editor. I'd like to talk to you more about this, please don't see this as an approval of Lucy's actions. Steve Crossin (talk to me) 15:33, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
  • I know about what mediation is, but nothing is being imposed, they are just suggestions. I'm not worried about lucy, and never will be. DBD did rule on content, and someone wasn't happy, because they didn't get their way. I have a feeling this will go to ArbCom if it doesn't go towards that person's way.--Lan Di (talk) 03:48, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
  • I'm aware it was merely a suggestion, I just think that he shouldn't have attempted to rule on conduct, it's just not our job. I'm not worried about her either. And in regards to ArbCom, they will never accept this case. It's too trivial for them, and ArbCom doesn't rule on content. But as it looks at the moment, she doesn't seem very active on Wikipedia anymore, I don't think much will happen to the articles that have been proposed for merging.Steve Crossin (talk to me) 04:37, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Mediation

Hi. thanks for your note. i definitely would like to stay aware of this mediation. please feel free to keep me posted. i will also keep an eye on the mediation. I may or may not participate; if others reach consensus there, I will abide by whatever agreement they reach. thanks. --Steve, Sm8900 (talk) 14:25, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Your revamp in the 9th millenium B.C

Was Wrong , You are the one vandalizing by reverting FACTS that appear on the main articles of wikipedia in the subject as such. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.183.132.213 (talk) 15:32, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Interesting Edit

You might not care, but in regards to the Millicent Lovejoy article a vandal was actually trying to help lol. She is indeed made up (and the link will probably be gone soon with the AFD tag). I just thought I'd let you know about what i found to be an amusing situation. TecmoBo (talk) 07:38, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Whats going on?

Whats going on? When I try to click on edit it makes me download some text file, therefore I have to use the little edits. Is this part of my punishment? Where theirs a will, theirs a way. 16:13, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Wrongly Reported

Strike-through text I have had several messages from you saying that i have vandalised pages which i have necer been on, and certainly not edited. I was wondering if you give me a reason on why this could be? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.169.97.147 (talk) 10:37, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

  • Certainly. As IP addresses are reassigned, or used by many people, quite often, it is possible that someone else using your IP address made those edits before, and you, now using that same IP address, have those warnings on your talk page. Might I suggest you register an account? There are many benefits, and it is quick and easy to do so. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me. Cheers. Steve Crossin (talk to me) 10:42, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

removed level 4 warning, always start with a level 1 warning, unless its extreme.

  • I must admit I disagree with your removal of this warning. With all the recent trolling of Gaia and Gaia-related pages by certain idiot #channers, as well as a probable attempted (though failed) phishing attempt, I'd call it perfectly reasonable to go straight to level 4. Especially since the only edits this account has made has been to vandalize Gaia Online and its talk page. --HamatoKameko (talk) 15:25, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Sure, I can see your concern. But, we deal with individual editors, and we generally should avoid going straight to a level 4 warning, one reason is admins at AIV|AIV will look at the warnings given, and if they see only a level 4 warning, they're less likely to block, unless the vandalism is very severe. Have a look at this, it may help you out. Steve Crossin (talk to me) 15:30, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
  • I see your point. I may have jumped the gun a bit (I'm having trouble staying fully awake), but please don't assume that I'm dense. ;P I've read all of that before, and while yes, I probably should have warned them first, had I caught them sooner they would easily have racked up three warnings by now, as it's quite obvious the account only exists to vandalize. I predict the account will either be dropped entirely now that its been caught, or used to create more problems, in which case I would appreciate at least the re-addition of a level-one warning, so that no one has to start over from the ground-up with this potential problem user. --HamatoKameko (talk) 15:42, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Re:sysop

I would love to be a sysop. However, I failed an RFA in late February, and a few weeks later, someone else asked me if I wanted them to nominate me. I asked a few experienced editors what their opinions were, and they all said I should probably wait at least 8-10 weeks before trying again. That would be anywhere from around May 1 to May 15. Around that time, I am going to be taking a heck of a lot of AP tests, so unless you think that the Wikipedia Community would be willing to make a HUGE exception, (i.e. passing my hypothetical 2nd RFA only a month after failing my first) I really don't think I would be able to accept a nomination until around the end of May. J.delanoygabsadds 15:37, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, I have basically no article writing experience beyond adding refs and cleaning up Eli Manning. However, I do have more than 14000 edits (99.99% vandal-fighting) this month, so that may help my RFA, whenever (or if) it happens. J.delanoygabsadds 16:02, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Re:AIV comment template

I saw your comment on Rudget's talk page earlier about this, and have been thinking about it a bit. Of course it may be easier for some to simply type in their comments without the template, but I think it would be slightly helpful in many cases. I think the next step for you would be to get a wider consensus on whether the community wants to use the template by starting a thread on the AIV talk page. Best of luck, Malinaccier (talk) 17:58, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Hmmm. I'm not anything great at templates, but I'll test it in my sandbox...Malinaccier (talk) 18:04, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm going to change some coding that I think will help....Malinaccier (talk) 18:07, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Alright, try it now. Malinaccier (talk) 18:09, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Hmmm. I might use the template. Especially if the code was put up on the WP:AIV page for easier access. You don't have to wait to use it at all, so go ahead if you wish. Malinaccier (talk) 18:19, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
You may also wish to develop one for WP:UAA. It may be less useful there, however. Malinaccier (talk) 23:13, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
Hello Steve! I saw the discussion at Rudget's Talk. Two other places where non-admins could help are Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard, where 90% (or more) of what happens are investigation and discussions that anyone could do, and Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/3RR. I agree that there is not much help that non-admins can provide at WP:RPP. The 3RR board is more subtle than it appears, since often the complaints are not well-formed even in cases where a violation can be seen in the history. Anyone can add info to a complaint to fix it up. Also it helps to know some of the background on the article of both the cited editor and the complainant, and that information could be added to the thread by anyone. EdJohnston (talk) 23:34, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Hey, thanks. I came up with the initial idea, but Luna San was the one who fixed it up. It was a community effort, really, but, it all starts with an idea, doesn't it. I've been thinking, should we add some sort of documentation on WP:AIV, so users can access them easily? Or, maybe even a semi-script, much like the one at AFC. Steve Crossin (talk to me) 06:08, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Hmm...well before we could place some kind of documentation on the noticeboard itself it would have to be discussed on the talkpage, same goes for the script, though I am not sure a script is really needed, all it will cause is overuse. Tiptoety talk 06:12, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Agreed, the current opinion seems to be approving of the template, I think it would be common sense to have it somewhere on the AIV noticeboard. Maybe it's possible to add a message on the AIV noticeboard, indicating there is a proposal for the template, and a link to it? Yea, a script may be unnecessary. It looks like you have started using the template :) Steve Crossin (talk to me) 06:16, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Naw, there is no need to put a link on AIV to the talk page, there are plenty of users who go there on their own. I would recommend staring a new sub-heading within the current discussion in regards to documenting these templates on AIV. And yes I am using them, they say what I am always typing over there, and much faster too. Tiptoety talk 06:19, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Great, thanks. I also changed the template so it automatically indents, I pretty much just added a : next to each one, so that means you don't have to do it yourself. I reckon this is one of those things that makes you think, why wasn't this thought of earlier? Steve Crossin (talk to me) 19:55, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Franjo Vlašić

You had removed my edit stating the information within this link was incorrect.

 http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Franjo_Vlasic

It is stated this person is a descendant of the vlasic pickles. I am a direct descendant and have the true history of the vlasic directly from my mother, grandmother, great grandfather and his father back to Croatia.

He most certainly was not a general or named franjo. Whoever posted this information is attempting to boast up their family name.

The page needs removed, the information is inaccurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.155.126.166 (talk) 04:00, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: errant AIV report

Well, something like this happened a few times before, and I think I have figured out what is going on. If a username is reported at WP:UAA, for some reason, Huggle reports them to AIV immediately. I will talk to Huggle's dev about it... J.delanoygabsadds 20:35, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm not even using the new version, so I have no idea what is going on. J.delanoygabsadds 20:39, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

re AIV templates

Hi. I don't think we should be replacing other peoples raw text with a template, just because there is an appropriate one available. I posted on both WP:AN & ANI advising of the templates - and the response isn't 100% enthusiastic. I think they are a useful addition, but a long way before becoming compulsory. I feel we should let people choose to use them or not, and allow the community to decide if they are to become standard practice or not. Cheers. LessHeard vanU (talk) 22:25, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Sure, everyone has their opinions. I wonder if those users had the same opinions towards the templates. Some people just can't be happy, can they ;) But sure, I won't replace text with templates, just they added their edit conflict text after me, so it wasnt really necessary Steve Crossin (talk to me) 22:30, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

I think the templates are pretty useful. There's two cases missing from the set, though:

  • No activity since final - "Insufficient recent activity" sounds like they haven't editing in 30 minutes. This would be those cases where somebody gave the final and reported to AIV simultaneously, so they haven't truly vandalized after the final warning.
  • Actively monitoring - I keep a close eye on recent contributions for people who come through AIV. This could alert other admins that one of us is watching and, well, ready to pull the trigger if they do make that one-vandalism-too-many.

My only concern beyond that is that the icons are so big that they overshadow the bullets for the reports. I'm not sure the icons can be made any smaller, though. And it's hard enough to get all reports to start with bullets, much less a template for some other icon. Other than that, though, excellent job! And it's a tool that I will use as appropriate. —C.Fred (talk) 00:06, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Done. You can see the changes on the template Steve Crossin (talk to me) 00:21, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Steve, it's probably best if you don't "clerk" on AIV. It's better to let the admins decide who deserves blocking etc. 'Cause sometimes a real ass vandalism-only account can slip through like this one that I had to block: [1]. People don't need a full set of warnings (per se) to be blocked for vandalism only accounts. But thanks for helping out though Steve! Take care. ScarianCall me Pat 00:50, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, that last one I shouldn't have commented on, but most of the time it's generally OK, but, I'll try to be more wary on AIV. Cheers. Steve Crossin (talk to me) 00:54, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

I disagree with you Scarian, I think it is most helpful when non-admins clerk at AIV, they just need to be reserved about it, and make sure they do not remove reports (that should be left up to a admin). But I think leaving little notices stating that the user was not warned properly, has not vandalized past final warn ect... is fine. But that is just my opinion. Tiptoety talk 00:59, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, thanks for your support Tiptoety. I'm not trying to step on anyones toes here. I'm just trying to help out. AIV gets reports that don't require a block, and an admin reviewing them takes up valuable time. Non-admins checking these surely save time. Steve Crossin (talk to me) 01:04, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

You may want to comment at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#AIV comment templates now available.. Be warned, people do not really like the idea of the whole thing :( Tiptoety talk 01:12, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Thanks, I still feel the community will support it, as is seen on the talk page. However, it's not a forced template, its just an option. But it's a lot quicker, I think. Users are using the templates, their comments aren't making me depressed or anything, I just find their comments mocking of the work we've done on the template. Oh, see the scales at the top, with the "AIV" link? Click it. Hehe. AIV=Justice. Steve Crossin (talk to me) 01:35, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

User Pages

I have a pretty good idea of what went into those pages. :P 99.9% sure that was a sock with a grudge you saw. I may consider semi-protection but not sure. While I do like increasing my vandal count, big edits like that are insane. I probably will request. Anyways, thanks. =D -WarthogDemon 03:13, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

It's gone a tad beyond a content dispute on the talk page and my user pages, but how do I warn it/him/her/them sufficiently? Therequiembellishere (talk) 05:01, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, well, the reverting of their edit may have irritated them to the extent that they vandalised your user pages, I've had it happen to me as well. I wouldn't label their edit to the article as vandalism, however the edits to your userspace were. You can warn users by using these templates, but I woulnd't recommend you mark their article edits as vandalism, unless they become clearly vandalistic. I've warned each user, and if it continues, re-report. I'd suggest maybe post on WP:ANI. Steve Crossin (talk to me) 05:05, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Alright, thank you. Therequiembellishere (talk) 05:11, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

FYI

I'm still around, just was on a business trip, and now I'm running a 7 day query program of our images (600,000 images on my 4 year old machine, while being maxlag compliant takes a long time), so I won't be on Live (ram footprint issue), but I'll be around email and of course at my talk page. The Mecab is progressing nicely I think. We've got a good basis of exactly what the dispute is, and what each side wants to happen, and now we're hitting the meat of the issue, what makes the other guy's version unacceptable. MBisanz talk 05:52, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

I'd like to note, Luna redesigned the template, I've been adding and tweaking it, I wasn't aware of how to oo the complex coding. I had the initial idea, but she molded it to . So, I can't take all the credit, but I've also contributed to it quite a bit. It's all about initial thoughts being developed. I've been clerking on AIV a lot as well, see here for an example. Steve Crossin (talk to me) 06:05, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Vandalism Template Thingy?

I was wondering if you could answer a question of mine. I seem to see these exact words on vandals user talk pages very often. Could you tell me how this works? (Example: User_talk:220.233.167.130) Thanks! Captin Shmit (talk) 06:41, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Sure :) As part of the User Warnings Wikiproject, standard warnings were created, for a simple and easy way to warn editors that may not be contributing appropriately. It's just a simple way of doing things really. Just like the new AIV template, at . A simpler way of doing things. If you have any more questions, feel free to post another message here. Great language

Level 4 straight off - abusive edit summaries I thought why not go straight to 4 :( SatuSuro 06:45, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

I'd personally have to disagree there. It's just, we must follow a standard process, a Level4im first off is a bit severe, I used to be very harsh on vandalism, but now, I'm not as rough. I'd suggest you follow the standard process, giving all warnings in order. It will give the blocking admin more reason to block as well, if they've been appropriately warned. Cheers, Steve Crossin (talk to me) 06:48, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Ok advice taken - but really if you follow that protocol with one like that - well it would be interesting when you have an repeat abusive if in fact its the way to go (more abuse more time spent climbing the ladder) I would have thought once the full abusive summary was given that should have been sufficient. Thanks for the advice - cheers SatuSuro 06:55, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: {{AIV}}

I like it quite a bit and don't see much room for change at the moment. I'm just worried if its on the image spammy side. May of our templates overuse small icons. But it isn't a big issue and I still think they come in quite handy.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 07:16, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
