ArbCom 2018 election voter message

[edit]

Hello, MacPraughan. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Tenzin Osel Hita.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Dear Ronhjones , please explain how you have concluded that my photo of Tenzin Osel Hita is a blatant copyright violation. It has already been deleted! Thanks, MacPraughan (talk) 22:34, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
My tag said Image has Facebook metadata, and Google finds it there - https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Flookaside.fbsbx.com%2Flookaside%2Fcrawler%2Fmedia%2F%3Fmedia_id%3D303607519666701&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FMeditacionCentroBengungyal%2F&docid=DWdjaMgq5_lA3M&tbnid=Wfb6uE7SBVHpzM%3A&vet=1&w=745&h=745&bih=944&biw=1414&ved=0ahUKEwj_2KyC6bHfAhWlVBUIHY1bDk8QMwgoKAAwAA&iact=c&ictx=1. When images are uploaded from Facebook, Facebook adds a special tag to the image. Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:48, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, Ronhjones , this is because I gave the image to the subject and he must have loaded it on his FB page. Please tell me, if I load my original of the image and not the version that was loaded on FB, would it be OK? Or do I need to find another image that hasn't been shown on FB at all? Thanks, MacPraughan (talk) 22:55, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You are up the creek without the required paddle. If you don't upload here first, then it's a long uphill slog to validate permission - the backlog here at WP:OTRS is 99 days to answer a permission e-mail - You have to go to WP:CONSENT to start that process. A file that has never been uploaded anywhere else before is best. (and better still uploaded at c:Commons:Upload, as it saves someone having to move it there) Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:07, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much, I'll find another image that hasn't been swallowed by FB. MacPraughan (talk) 11:07, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The file File:Copy of page "Public Statement" from the website of Dharmaling Buddhist Congregation".png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Being public does not mean the content is in the public domain.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
