Welcome. Anything I can do? Snottygobble 04:06, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- What do you want to do? Move it or delete it? Snottygobble 04:40, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- Done. Since I couldn't move your user talk page here, I took the liberty of archiving your old user talk page directly into User talk:SatuSuro/Archive13. Snottygobble 04:55, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- You will of course need to update your links. And I daresay your "explanation of name" page will need to be updated too ;-)

Welcome to Wikipedia SatuSuro, I hope you enjoy your stay ... Whoops I didn't recognise this place. Good luck with your <new> moniker. -- I@n 06:43, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
sorry
[edit]Oop I thought it crossed over and came up the north side then crossed north to south. Gnangarra 13:08, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- I have vague memorys from school of being bused into darlington area then walking upto the weir following the valley, but that was 20+ years ago Gnangarra 13:19, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- I agree it probably wasnt part of the track even then. Gnangarra 13:45, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
AARS
[edit]That would be great the book they give away up there doesnt give a lot of detail just a general overview of the processes and the results. There are plenty of holes that need filling on that. The museum is really nice, its one fault is that there has been no additions to the museum since 1978, the last item added was incidentally the shovel the Charles used on during the tree planting. Gnangarra 13:00, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
- cool now i got visions of trench coat, rubber glove wearing vets roaming the streets of Perth, 8) Gnangarra 13:12, 6 August 2006 (UTC).

[edit]I hope you didn't mind me adding a bit to that. -- I@n 00:57, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- DYK's have to be nominated with 5 days of creation. That means TODAY!. Would you like me to do that? I feel it still needs a bit more work though and I'm not going to be doing much editing today. -- I@n 01:06, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- Does it hold any records? eg "The longest waterpipleine in the world". -- I@n 01:08, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- Rugby's all sorted out now - I thinked I fixed aboout 80% more than I broke though - it was a bit of a mess. I'll nom the pipe article now, else we'll lose the opportunity and I think its a worthy story. In the meantime we can keep expanding it. -- I@n 01:19, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Snuck it in just in time! Great article -- Samir धर्म 08:19, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
FA? It needs a mountain more info b4 that'll happen, but it'd be an ideal topic. Good luck. -- I@n 09:38, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm happy to help in any way I can, I just have a short attention span, and tend to lose focus, thats all. -- I@n 09:47, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Sorry, but I don't quite follow what you're getting at. Could you explain in English please? :) -- I@n 03:30, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Of exactly which article do you speak? -- I@n 03:41, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm guessing you're talking about this. Agree it probably should be in a separate article. Its actually quite good reading though and someone's gone to a lot of effort with it. -- I@n 03:47, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Whoops, our messages crossed. Thanks for the clarification ;) -- I@n 03:48, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Horrie and MMA
[edit]Don't aplogise, I enjoyed it! I have nothing on Horrie at all. I did think about him some time back but couldn't readily locate a decent source other than one or two lines here and there, which seems a bit odd given what he did, so I'm no help at all. Go for it if you've got something or can find something - both would be worthwhile articles. -- I@n 10:37, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- I do have an old MMA Focker Friendship photo though! -- I@n 10:39, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- I case you haven't already noticed this article Robin Miller (nurse) Horrie Millers daughter, the bulk of this was written by User:SeanMack, Gnangarra 16:32, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
Chippers Leap
[edit]You're welcome. I picked up an old bound copy of Early Days Volume 1 this week, and there was an article on Chippers Leap in it, and i knew you'd written an article on it so I thought I'd add it in. It tickles me pink that we have such a thorough article on a rock! Snottygobble 10:58, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- Other rocks? The Pinnacles spring to mind, and perhaps some of the Pleistocene cliffs along the river. Maybe a few historic quarries. What else? Snottygobble 12:27, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
Standardisation
[edit]I suppose the way to do it would be to give a thorough list of recommended topics in a recommended order, then let editors pick and choose what is relevant to their article. Something like:
- History
- Natural history
- Geology
- Climate
- Flora
- Fauna
- Government
- Demographics
- Population
- Social conditions
- Education
- Culture
- Arts
- Science
- Recreation
- Sport
- Health
- Welfare
- Law and order
- Industrial conditions
- Wages
- Employment
- Prices
- Finance
- Land administration
- Land settlement
- Water supply
- Sewerage
- Industry
- Infrastructure
- Transport
- Communications
- Primary production
- Mining
- Manufacturing
- Trade
- Tourism
- Places of interest
- Events
- Infrastructure

Factoid page
[edit]Umm..I presume you mean this page - factoid.
Yeah, on the one hand you have a piece of information which looks true but isn't, then another which is true but trivial. I suppose puting the 2 meaings on a disambig page. Is this starting to look more like a dictionary though? Alternately one could write a big proviso or something and highlight the fact that meaning two is almost opposite in meaning (prob'ly better than disambig page), pointing out the irony of this...Cas Liber 22:16, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
OK, refs in. This could make for a good SNOPES like page :) Cas Liber 09:22, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
- I don't mind factoid - if the primary aim is to educate, then this is a great place to list commonly held beliefs which are untrue. Cas Liber 09:20, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Well I'd never heard of that - not a bad concept. Listing what thingumy subdivisions are called may be a good start. Needs a bit of formatting Cas Liber 22:25, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
- I like that too. I've never heard of the term and my 1st thought was here's another neologism, but I could see how it could be useful, and from the references given, I suspect it would be difficult to argue for its removal. Cheers. -- I@n 01:10, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hey, I have no great wisdom! -- I@n 05:04, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
- I had followed that link from the WA page before, though I not familiar with the term I dont see any need for either to be sent to AfD, they do need to tbe cleaned up and given some references Gnangarra 02:41, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
- Erm, ain't no statoid in me Longer Oxford English Dictionary.................Cas Liber 09:22, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
- I haven't seen the book, so I don't know how legitimate it is. I only trimmed the more bunkum-sounding stuff. On the other hand, we have articles like edge city, which was initially a made-up term to describe a phenomenon. - DavidWBrooks 13:05, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
Of course! I didn't know about this (its now on my watchlist) and I'm glad that I did because I was (amongst other things) considering a Great Lakes article based on Gentili's excellent piece published in Early Days (I've got a scanned copy here if you want it). That info might be better incorporated into the SCP article. Let me know if your interested and I can email it to you. -- I@n 01:39, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- thats fine. -- I@n 01:57, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Coords
[edit]If you ever need quick and dirty geographical coordinates, try this [1]. The coordinates change as you move your mouse over the map. And you get to watch the rain at the same time.:) -- I@n 03:22, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- and {{Geolinks-AUS-suburbscale|long=[LONG]|lat=[LAT]}} is a nice way of adding them to an article. It displays in the top right corner (see Menangle Park, New South Wales for an example)
Useage:
- [LONG] = The longitude of the location, in decimal degrees, with "-" sign if required (between about -10.7 (Cape York, Qld) and -43.6 (South East Cape, Tas) for most Aus locations).
- [LAT] = The latitude of the location, in decimal degrees, with "-" sign if required (between 116.2 (Steep Point, WA) and 153.6 (Byron Bay, NSW) for most Aus locations).
-- I@n 04:26, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Ah well I can see how you old farts would struggle with the metric system :) Not to worry, it was just a suggestion. -- I@n 06:33, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- The Gazetteer of Australia now uses metric decimal degrees; but I've been converting to DMS. Perhaps in future we should provide both. Snottygobble 06:38, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Bunbury
[edit]Are you working on the Bunbury, WA page? If so are there any photos etc. that you need as I live quite close to Bunbury? raptor 01:42, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Lists of places in Western Australia
[edit]For you: List of rocks in Western Australia. Snottygobble 12:03, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Next? Dunno, maybe caves, maybe craters, maybe hill and mountains, maybe lakes, maybe towns, maybe bays and gulfs. They've all got to be done eventually. Any requests? Snottygobble 23:07, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- how about craters, I'm going to be near Dalgaranga in the next couple of weeks Gnangarra 23:18, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Unfortunately I've just discovered my '96 Gazetteer data is piss-poor when it comes to craters. It doesn't list any craters in WA. Wolfe Creek and Veevers are listed as "depressions"; Dalgaranga is simply listed as an "unbounded locality". Very unhelpful.
- Dalgaranga is also the staion on which the crater exists, WA museum and UWA made a right mess of the crater collecting samples in the 70's. Gnangarra 12:45, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- Caves I can do. This link to List of caves in Western Australia should turn blue some time in the next hour or so. Snottygobble 11:18, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- I already put our four archipelagos in with the islands.
- I'd like to do some coastal features, but I'm need to think about how to group them. e.g I think I can put bays and gulfs together like you said. And I think I can group anchorages, ports and harbours together. But into which of these two groups should I put sounds e.g. Cockburn Sound?;
- Snottygobble 12:27, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sounds would be with Gulfs, Bays. Cockburn would just be duel listed as anchorages as would King George Sound. Gnangarra 12:43, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

- Verrry interesting, anchorages would be a good one but I dont think they will be in the gazeetr, but if we consider them - gage roads etc/ they would be very interestinf against separate Harbor Boards which we had in Tassie I dont know if we had them in wa or not ?SatuSuro 12:47, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- Equillevent would be port authorities Gnangarra 00:20, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Gage Roads is in the Gazetteer.
- Re: Caves, I agree. But I can't make the judgement myself. In a perfect world, Rauleigh would respond to my email (which I haven't got around to composing yet) by saying "There are X number of caves that I'm not prepared to say anything about; Y number of caves that I'm only prepared to give you the name of; and Z number of caves for which I'll happily tell you everything I know." That way, the decision on respect of conservation values is over to him, the expert. Snottygobble 01:03, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Hello! You can write this article in a sandbox and publish it when you believe that it is ready. Regards, (aeropagitica) (talk) 15:28, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- This was deleted on {{db-nocontent}} grounds. I thought that was a bit rich, so I restored it and added some more info off the top of my head. Should be safe now. Snottygobble 23:22, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Mount Isa
[edit]That "factoid" is actually covered fairly well in article factoid. Snottygobble 23:05, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Collaboration
[edit]The new collaboration page has been created. For now, it is a "collaboration of the week" with standard rules and stuff, which later we can decide for any changes. But now, lets start nominating articles (one article for each person!) and voting. Please take a look at the page. Cheers -- Imoeng 11:20, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
