- I delivered the messages as promised, though you may be disappointed at just how few users there are in that category that are still active. I excluded all the ones who hadn't edited since January 2009 or earlier, and that left me with just 10. -- Soap Talk/Contributions 15:15, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
- Hello, thank you for inviting to the Karachi meetup. I was curious, there are very few Pakistanis here and even fewer in Karachi. I would be really interested but I am from Islamabad. Anyways, please do let me know about the meeting and how it went, maybe someday we'll organize it here too. Regards Samar (Talk . Contributions) 05:47, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

- Well people can be arranged for that. I think we got some official word from wikipedia itself. So good luck with it. For local chapter we must contact the Local Uni, such as LUMS, NUST and UET etc. --yousaf465 02:26, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Jimmy Wales
Hi! From where did you get Jimmy Wales message for Karachi meetup? 121.222.146.149 (talk) 01:23, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
Cool! 121.222.4.68 (talk) 06:53, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- I think this Karachi meetup deserves more due publicity. Since you're from Karachi, I advise you to give as much potential outreach as you can. I can guarantee there are hundreds of youth out there (some of whom probably go on Wikipedia alot but don't edit) that are uninformed about this and would otherwise definitely come. Try to also get a local newspaper/magazine involved - these people are normally faarik to make small columns on these types of things. I must say I was surprised to see Jimbo Wales expressing intention of visiting. Thats something worth front page story :) 121.222.4.68 (talk) 07:06, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Wikimeetup Karachi
Dear Saqib thank you for your message. I always wonder why there is so small activity on Urdu Wikipedia dispite the fact that there are so many Urdu understanding people.
- How many of meetup members have seen Urdu Wikipedia?
- What the members in meetup think of the reason for small traffic on Urdu Wikipedia?
- How will they wish to run Urdu Wikipedia if they are at the position of Administrator for increasing the traffic?
- Do they think there is any unfair process (some kind of bias?) at present on Urdu Wikipedia?
- Why the Urdu Elites and Intellectuals (shair and adeeb etc) are ignorant of Urdu Wikipedia?
- What is the first, second and third cause of the Low Traffic on Wikipedia? 1. difficult language on urdu wikipedia 2. illiteracy or low education rate 3. difficulty in computer or internet access
If the intellectuals and educated persons from the Urdu world are willing to do something to bring a change, they should join the project and try to improve it as they think. Urdu Wikipedia is a unique opportunity and so easy to utilize, this can be use to harmonize and to make uniform terminology for all the languages of arabic script, this is the second most important factor for the scientific progress in the future, after the economy. --سمرقندی (talk) 07:51, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply. Let come to exact point, I'm not going to put your questions in meetup becuase it seems like questioners and even If put them, the result will not balance (only 3 attendees). However, if you've any serious matter or issue with Urdu Wikipedia. We could discuss on it briefly. Hope you understand. Saqib talk 08:39, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- I agree with you. --سمرقندی (talk) 09:46, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- Can't we discuss it somewhere.--yousaf465 02:15, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
Re:Meetup
Regarding the meetup, I didn't attend it. You might have confused me with the original person who attended since I developed that template :) Skepticfall (talk) 11:33, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- Who is trying to lying, You or User:Omparkash ? Omparkash mentioned here that You Fahad User:SufiSkeptic were among attendees. I doubt, you're the one in Simple Wikipedia because both usernames are quite similar. and now I'm in doubt if such meet really took place. Please clarify. Saqib talk 11:58, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- Exactly, I am Skepticfall not sufiskeptic. I've seen that meetup page too and I copied the word "skeptic" into my own new username because I liked it. As I mentioned, I have no relation with the meetup or attendees whatsoever, and neither do I know how you found me (maybe you saw my name on the history page of the "Wikipedia Pakistan meetups" template which I by the way, created). So as I mentioned, you have confused me with someone else and you might want to ask your question to the original people who attended, not me, as I am merely a random editor. WP Meetups
Hi Saqib. I very much agree. In New York, we divide the meetup into three parts: first chapter discussions, second presentations and roundtable talks, and lastly informal chit chat at a restaurant. The great majority of other meetups only include the informal chit chat part. I wrote a blog post about this a while back, and have tried to incorporate some on the ideas into Wikipedia:Meetup#Procedure and advice and to spread them to a couple of other meetups in the Northeastern US.--Pharos (talk) 17:28, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- No doubt NYC meetups are good examples for those considering to organize such Wikimedian meetups in their areas but I'm trying to let your focus those meetups which are just casual get to gatherings nothing else. I saw many meetups doesn't have post meetup summary (which I think the most important thing) except few photos. I personally didn't have any idea with organizing such kind of meetups but we organize Karachi met up and I think it was perfect. We tried our best to give it a potential outreach that was possible to us. Don't you think we should have some rules and policies with organizing Wikimedian meetups in future. Saqib talk 08:44, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I don't know if we can impose "rules", but perhaps we can have stronger advice and guidelines on this at Wikipedia:Meetup#Procedure and advice and even create classifications like Wikipedia:Meetup Box/Northeast, which we've used to encourage more organization of meetups in the Northeastern US.--Pharos (talk) 17:26, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
November 2009 Rawalpindi bombing

- Will you attend Wikimeetup Karachi 2? Saqib talk 09:08, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
- Well I would like to attend but as I'm not in Karachi I will not be able to.I do have idea, why not you people arrange a video conference right from McDonald. I think a wifi will be present in the hall. This way a lot of people can be included. Live coverage kind of a thing. Live blogging etc. --yousaf465 09:31, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I've no idea about a video conference and I do believe it'll not workable. However, there is no wifi in McDonald's and this time, obviously we won't organize it in McDonald's, it was too noisy last time and than no internet facility. Saqib talk 09:44, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
- Even if there is a simple internet connection, we can organize a voice conference, if video is not possible. At least I want to participate, but as I'm not present in Karachi at the moment, it will not be possible to participate physically. --yousaf465 15:31, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
