Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, RRay Estate. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Robert Ray (artist), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. John from Idegon (talk) 17:02, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Ray Artist

[edit]

Responding to close connection - neutrality issue. That's the whole thing. As I mentioned, the page is almost entirely quotes, and yes they are positive, but that is who the guy was... a talented and successful artist who spent considerable time in helping to develop the Taos art community. He was very well liked. Would it be better to disclose that I am a distant relative? Otherwise, the content of the article is almost entirely quotes from the people of his community. I did not find any research stating he was a bad artist or a bad guy, but I think I saw a reference to a traffic ticket ;) (just kidding around...) Anyhow, I appreciate the neutrality consideration which is why I did not editorialize. I cited each reference and am not sure what to do. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Booleaserate (talkcontribs) 14:30, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please advise and thank you very much for your timely responses!

Hello, Booleaserate. The fact is, you have a connection. The tag notes that. It should stay there until some experienced editor without a connection reviews your edits and he sources and confirms that the article is properly neutral. The tag will not lead to the article begin deleted or anything. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs
