Shiny new tools might be used to mete out justice, mercy or a dose of reality. Let us commit to not losing our cool when using them. Our only armor is the entire community's trust. We wear it for each other, each new contributor, and each new generation to come. May you ever be the community's champion. BusterD (talk) 14:13, 6 November 2024 (UTC) |
- Thank you, @BusterD! I will try to keep peace and my hand. Cheers, charlotte 👸♥ 21:08, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- Wasn't your hand I was concerned about. You and I are fairly resilient. Injuries to others may be irreversible, however. But you got yourself into this fine mess. You're a fine wikipedian; you know how to act. Don't be shy about editing BOLDly. If you need help ask someone. Congrats, and get to work. BusterD (talk) 01:20, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
Thanks
[edit]I know I already used the thank button, but thank you for that ANI close. Multiple discussions going on at the same time isn't really the most productive use of editor time. I admire that you're already doing such things as an admin (one of my goals for next year is to close my first discussion). Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 01:36, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you @Clovermoss! Ironically, I think that was the first controversial ANI thread I've ever closed, but I agreed that parallel discussions weren't helpful and no sanctions (other then the potential desysop) were gonna come out. Cheers, charlotte 👸♥📱 02:30, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Just pointing out that a desysop wouldn't occur as the result of an ANI discussion. Liz Read! Talk! 21:30, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
AFDs
[edit]Hello, Queen of Hearts,
I see you've become a new administrator and you've jumped into closing AFDs. Please read WP:NOQUORUM. If an AFD discussion has just the nominator's opinion and one argument for Deletion, our closers generally close it as a "Soft Deletion" because of the low participation. This means that the article can be restored if it is requested at WP:REFUND. However, Soft Deletion is not possible if a) there are any Keep arguments or b) if the article has been PROD'd or been nominated at AFD before. You'll see if you are using XFDcloser, which I recommend, that there is an option when selecting "Delete" to indicate it is a Soft Deletion.
Thank you and if you have any questions about working at AFD, feel free to approach me or any other of the regular discussion closers. Liz Read! Talk! 21:26, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Also, we generally let discussions run a full 7 days unless it is a Speedy Keep or SNOWCLOSE situation. Your closures were just a little bit early so that's permissable. But don't close discussions hours early or even days early. This can happen sometimes but is not appropriate. Liz Read! Talk! 21:28, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- I might have been incorrect on the timing of closing AFDs. Here, where I live, we had a time change over last weekend, so the the times of starting AFDs from a week ago are off by an hour. So, I might have been mistaken there. Liz Read! Talk! 05:48, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Liz. I don't have the time to fully respond right now, but, weirdly, I have a script to show relative timestamps, and it said "six days ago" for some of them, but XfDCloser (which, yes, I am using) gave it the green so I figured it was fine, and the UTC timestamps do seem to add up. charlotte 👸♥📱 06:26, 8 November 2024 (UTC)

DYK for Michael S. Harrison
[edit]On 8 November 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Michael S. Harrison, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a superintendent of the New Orleans Police Department posed as a corrupt officer during covert operations? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Michael S. Harrison. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Michael S. Harrison), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Requested Block
[edit]Hi QoH,
Hope you're alright these days. Could you block me until Dec 3 so I could focus on some IRL commitments?
Thank you!
