Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of One Day International cricket matches played by Bangladesh and Kenya, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hyderabad (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

What about this?

Hi Pratyya, may I suggest some changes to be made to your Happy New Year template? Because I have spotted some grammar errors and feel that more content can be added. What about this?

Redirects for Creation

If you had access to JSTOR or knew anything about art history, you wouldn't say something like "there's no evidence from any reliable source for your reason". In fact, I cited a source from a peer-reviewed academic publication, which you'll find in the references of the article (did you look at it?): Matthew, Louisa C. (1998). "The Painter's Presence: Signatures in Venetian Renaissance Pictures". The Art Bulletin. 80 (4): 618–48.. The very first Google hit goes to the German wiki's article on signature which cites both, and Google Books lists a ton of simultaneous occurences. Please create Fecit, a redirect to Pinxit, as soon as you can. 66.191.153.36 (talk) 15:20, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2013 WikiCup

Hello, Pratyya Ghosh, and welcome to the 2013 WikiCup! Your submissions' page is here. The competition begins at midnight UTC. The first round will last until the end of February, at which point the top 64 scorers will advance to the second round. We will be in touch at the end of every month, and signups are going to remain open until the end of January; if you know of anyone else who may like to take part, please let them know! A few reminders:

  • The rules can be found here. There have been a few changes from last year, which are listed on that page.
  • Anything you submit must have been nominated and promoted in 2013, and you need to have completed significant work upon it in 2013. (The articles you review at good article reviews does not need to have been nominated in 2013, but you do need to have started the review in 2013.) We will be checking.
  • If you feel that another competitor is breaking the rules or abusing the competition in some way, please let a judge know. Please do not remove entries from the submissions' pages of others yourself.
  • Don't worry about calculating precisely how many points everything is worth. The bot will do that. The bot may occasionally get something wrong- let a judge know, or post on the WikiCup talk page if that happens.
  • Please try to be prompt in updating submissions' pages so that they can be double-checked.

Overall, however, don't worry, and have fun. It doesn't matter if you make the odd mistake; these things happen. Questions can be asked on the WikiCup talk page. Good luck! J Milburn and The ed17 17:30, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

afc

You seem to have accidentally declined Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Wimon Sainimnuan as containing only plot. ut it's an article about a person. We use that reason for articles that are about a work of fiction, or a character , or an episode that merely descrive the plot. It is conceivable that an article about an author might talk only about the plot of one of their books, but that is not the case here.

As you did correctly note, there are some problems with the references. But I will give some more specific advice about that, because it seems the subject is notable. DGG ( talk ) 01:00, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

additional afc problem

The article Efficiency, Reform and Growth which you accepted from AfC on Dec 26 was a pure advertisement for the UK government. As an example: "The UK had one of the biggest budget deficits in the world when the Coalition government came to power in May 2010.[11] The government took the decision to make reductions to central government expenditure to enable fiscal consolidation, reducing expenditure by c£80bn by 2015. The government created the Efficiency and Reform Group in June 2010 in central government with the aim of carrying out a well planned and considered strategic programme of efficiencies, savings and reform, leading to targeted cost reduction and the transformation of public services." is just one example.

I have deleted it as G11, purely promotional, because that is the intent and the effect. If someone were to write a proper article bout that cabinet office, they would have to begin from scratch. The only actual information is the names of the minor officials of the department, which is not encyclopedic content.

I have found it advisable to keep an eye out for administrative jargon. Excessive use of it is normally promotional, copyvio, or both. DGG ( talk ) 02:53, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

RE: AGF

Here's a screenshot of Twinkle with rollback options.

Hello Pratyya! Sorry for this late reply. I noticed your query in your CVU that you want to know something in regards of that AGF button in Twinkle. The AGF button for rollback is just same as those normal rollback for Twinkle. It just add an edit summary of "Reverted good-faith edits by USERNAME". This is also the same with the VANDAL option, it just add edit summaries that your edit reverts revision that constitutes vandalism. For the rollback button in the middle, it just a simple revert with edit summaries but not indicating if that revert was for good faith or vandal. Thanks, Mediran (tc) 12:11, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

How to improve Kieran O'Neill page

Hi Pratyya,

Thank you for reviewing my submission of the "Kieran O'Neill" page. I am new to authoring on Wikipedia so I appreciate your guidance.

Your decline note suggests the article needs more context before being accepted. Could you elaborate slightly? I am keen to make sure it conforms to Wikipedia's high standards, but I'm not sure exactly what to focus on when improving.

Thank you for your time!

Hi Pratyya: thanks for your help with the Duffin Creek page. I'm a newbie and really trying to get to know how to post on a wiki. One thing that I find confusing is how to post a picture with an article. Many articles have nice high res pics on the right hand side, I'd like to do something similar with the page I created. I'm sure there is an FAQ, but I have yet to find one that simply explains it. I was directed to wikimedia...? Is it not as simple as posting a photo like on Facebook?

Thanks in advance, David

Feedback on Bridger Group article

Hello Pratyya,

Thank you for your feedback about the Bridger Group article I wrote. I was wondering if I could get more specific feedback about your comments. Since I found my information in (and referenced) oil and gas trade publications and local news sources from oil- and gas-producing regions, I believe my sources were neutral. Also, when looking at some other entries that chronicle the history and development of players within a particular industry, they were similarly neutral in tone as the entry I wrote. (For example, see Onvia - http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Onvia - within the data/business intelligence industry.)

The RFC for TAFI is nearing it's conclusion, and it's time to hammer out the details over at the project's talk page. There are several details of the project that would do well with wider input and participation, such as the article nomination and selection process, the amount and type of articles displayed, the implementation on the main page and other things. I would like to invite you to comment there if you continue to be interested in TAFI's development. --NickPenguin(contribs) 02:35, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Qorus Software

Hi Pratyya,

Thanks for your contribution/comments to my recent submission for Qorus Software (http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Qorus_Software). I think I need a little help though - you declined the submission based on evidence of the subject's notability, which is fine, but I thought the references I added would have been ok? They're from reputable online news websites, which are completely non-affiliated with us here at Qorus Software.

Can you please advise the best course of action for me to take in order to get this article accepted and published please?

Thanks, David — Preceding unsigned comment added by Djclothier (talkcontribs) 10:16, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Actually all three of your numbered references in that submission are reproducing the same press release. Press releases are not reliable independent sources, and do nothing towards proving the notability of a topic. Unless independent reliable sources can be found to prove the notability of the topic, the article will not be accepted. See WP:42. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 12:02, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Hello Pratyya,

I noticed that Bonkers the Clown was reviewing your recent AFC contributions, and saw that he was marking a great amount of them as failed. As a result i decided to check a few myself to see what was going on, and having looked into this for a bit i cannot help but agree with his judgement.

I don't mean to be rude, but a whole lot of the reviews (The vast majority) is either declined under the incorrect category, or even plain wrong. Both bonkers and myself left commentary at your review page. May i request that you reviews those alongside the Reviewing instructions before continuing to review submissions? Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 14:24, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

To add to this: I went trough all the reviews on your review page, and ended up reopening 34 of them due to them being closed with an incorrect rationale. This doesn't mean that all those pages should have been accepted, but it does mean that the pages creator received an incorrect message regarding what to do with their page. This doesn't mean either that the other reviews were fine though. Some were already resubmitted for another review, others had been accepted in the meantime, and some others were a waste of time to reopen because they wouldn't be accepted anyway (even though the rationale was incorrect).
I would like to assume good faith here, but based on what i saw at least past of this seems caused by reviewing with the intent to get as many reviews as possible for the backlog drive. Summarized:
  • Multiple reviews were declined as "No Context", even though they had more then sufficient context to determine the subject of the article.
  • Multiple reviews were declined as "Too short". Stub article's are often only one line in size, and are perfectly acceptable.
  • Multiple reviews were declined as "The article needs to have <a plot section><a biography section>" et cetera. This is by no means required by any policy, not is it a decline reason. (For example)
  • You declined multiple article's with reasons that make no sense. Peters,_North_Dakota is a geographical place, not a dictionary definition. Pink champagne is a music album, not dictionary definition.
  • The article regarding Sergio Michel states winner of over 300 Gold Medals, winning Gold at the XXI Central American and Caribbean Games and three Bronze medals at the 2011 World Masters Athletics Championships., yet you marked him as not notable.
  • You accepted the "Wiebusch" article, which was a literal copy of the Tasmanian Devil article. Every source said that, every picture said that, every line except the first contained "Devil". If you had read the article, you couldn't have missed that.
I can go on like this, but i presume this would bring the point across. I hope you understand that this amount of errors is quite simply not acceptable in any way. The backlog drive is not an initiative where you can get a high score and earn a medal - it is reviewing article's that other people might have worked on for hours. AFC editors are often completely new and won't know the way around Wikipedia. Flat out declining them with an incorrect reason means that they won't know what to do with the article - best case they ask, worst case they just give up meaning we lose both a potential article and editor.
If these are honest mistakes, i would still strongly suggest that you cease reviewing AFC article's for the time being as the mistake ratio is simply to high - i hope you understand that results like these cause more harm then good. If these are caused by an "I want a medal" drive, i would ask that you spend an order of magnitude more time while reviewing an article. Mistakes are always possible (I make them as well), but any fault-to-good ratio should be reasonable. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 21:59, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

declined page

I was declined an entry on wikipedia and would request another review. The topic was Aylestonians RFC which is an amateur rugby union club in Leicester England. At the moment the club is the only inner city club with its own ground and is trying to continue its development as well as acknowledge its history. The club has been established since 1921 and has had players that have helped to change the game over the years. I have included extra references and made minor changes. Also I do notice that other rugby union clubs from Leicestershire have wikipedia pages and would find it extremely unfair if we were not allowed the same. Examples are Leicester Lions and Aylestone Athletic. Aylestonians are also mention on Leicester Storms page and Aylestone Athletics. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aaron1477 (talkcontribs) 20:16, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I recently saw that you declined my post on shell growth in estuaries. You said that it need more secondary reliable sources, and should not be opinion or original research. Nothing that I submitted was original research, and there were about 40 scientific sources, all from scientific journal articles. I removed the only section that could be construed as opinion and have resubmitted, so hopefully it will go back to you and you can accept it this time. If not, would you please respond and let me know how it should be altered? Thanks Isthatfog (talk) 02:34, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi Pratyya, this talk is regarding article http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:QNAPNAS/Qnap. Before the last submission, I talked to 2 persons through "live help chat", and they mentioned that I can added one or two references about the company, in addition to references about products(Ref. #26-33). Even if I'm offline, I will make sure to monitor your progress. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, I may not log-in like before because that's my examination period. I can log-in for those days but I guess for only an hour or two. Good luck! Mediran (tc) 01:01, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:BPL Official Logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:BPL Official Logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:33, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Help Project newsletter : Issue 5

The Help Project Newsletter
Issue V - January 2013
Project news summary
From the editor

Hello again from the Help Project!

In the last newsletter (which was quite a while ago sorry!) I talked about my fellowship and the plans for improving the main portal page, Help:Contents. Well I'm sad to say that my fellowship is now over, but very happy to say that the proposed improvements to that page have been completed and implemented. Do check it out if you haven't already.

Another important and frequently used help page, Wikipedia:Contact us, has also seen a significant revamp. You may recognise the design inspiration from the new tutorial pages.

In project news, we now have a subscription to the "article alerts" service. Any deletion nominations, move discussions, or requests for comments on pages within the Help Project's scope will now show up at Wikipedia:Help Project/Article alerts. So that's definitely a page which project members might want to watch.

Any comments or suggestions for future issues are welcome at Wikipedia:Help Project/Newsletter. If you don't wish to receive this newsletter on your talk page in future then just edit the participants page and add "no newsletter" next to your name.

Dear Pratyya,

Thank you for reviewing my article for William "Casey King." You said the sources were unreliable, and I was really hoping you could give me some guidance regarding which ones. I have cited Barron's magazine, The Washington Post, an NPR news show, a newspaper from Provence, France, etc. Can you please let me know what is "unreliable" so that I may address your concerns? Since the previous reviewer, I omitted some material/quotations about King's latest book, because I got the information from the publisher's website, Yale University Press. I will only add material if it is published by a third party. But, the first book, "oh Freedom!" has been reviewed by numerous American newspapers, etc., so I cited to a review in the Washington Post.

Your guidance would be appreciated. Thank you. Kittythedog (talk) 13:53, 14 January 2013 (UTC)Kittythedog

Linda Fried page

Hi Pratya,

We were in touch during December about a page that I had drafted on Linda P. Fried. I was on vacation for a few weeks, so did not see your reply. Since our last correspondence was Dec. 27, I can't seem to access it on your talk page.

Do you mind letting me know where we stand with this? I believe that you had asked me to do an "infobox" but I could not find any instructions on what that is.

Thanks, Maria Jan. 16, 2013 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Maria at Columbia Public Health (talkcontribs) 17:21, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Nonsense speedies

Hi. Thanks for patrolling new pages, but please be careful about using WP:CSD#G1 nonsense. That is intended only for things like "9p8.kgjwhi#^k@XX@" or "Yaaaaayyyy LOL!!!!!!". The definition says: "This excludes poor writing, partisan screeds, obscene remarks, implausible theories, vandalism and hoaxes, fictional material, coherent non-English material, and poorly translated material." A user who writes in a foreign language, or not very clearly, may be offended if their work is labelled "nonsense."

NUOVE DIREZIONE just now was in Italian. If you don't know what language, Google Translate will usually identify it, and will often give a clear enough idea of what an article is about (in this case a band or group) to let it be tagged A7 or G11. There is a useful list of messages, many bilingual, at WP:PNT/T, which can be used to point people to another Wikipedia (many don't know that there any others). I have added {{contrib-it1}} to this author's talk page. Generally, what to do with foreign-language articles is explained at WP:NPP#Dealing with foreign language new pages.

Keep up the good work - without New Page Pattrollers, WP would rapidly become an unusable mess. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 11:42, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

Please read my actions on why I created the page on Yakuza football group.

As I had stated I am not a computer and am not willing to type up a whole page in one night, especially when school is just starting back up. So if you have objections please forward them to... Place a template on the top of that article. But I'm not sure about your article. If it was not me I beleive some one would tag it for CSD. But cheers and happy editing.--Pratyya (Hello!) 12:22, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

Vandalism?

I'm not sure it's clear why this edit was vandalism? --Dweller (talk) 14:59, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

I'm not sure what're you asking about. If you're asking why the edit was vandalism, I would like to say that the IP blanked the International Career section. And I think it was a section blanking. Because International career is a very important section and that section represents a player's international career in WP. But still if you think that it was my mistake and can give reasons then I'm really really sorry. And cheers.--Pratyya (Hello!) 06:20, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
When I saw your edit, for some reason, I thought you were removing the section as vandalism, not readding it. My apologies. --Dweller (talk) 12:04, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

Re: Maasranga Television

The biggest problem I would say is the lack of sources. Another problem is notability. For example, is this a major channel in Bangladesh? If so, state it and use a reliable source to support this statement. I would also take caution with File:Maasranga television.png, as another user may tag/delete it for copyright violations. If you want, I can userfy the page for you so that you may work on it more. Elockid (Talk) 14:17, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

You can do anything to keep that article. And the question you raised whether the channel is a major channel in Bangladesh. The answer is yes and I would like to add not only major but one of the most major channels in Bangladesh. And also about the picture you said was founded by me at [bn.wikipedia.org]. So I thought uploading that in commons won't make any copyright problem.--Pratyya (Hello!) 14:22, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Not vand but unsourced addition! That IP has a tendency of using ALL CAP unnecessarily TAEKWONDO (i.e. Taekwondo), TANGSOODO (i.e Tang Soo Do) etc --Tito Dutta (talk) 10:20, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

Is it BPL logo File:Alternate logo.jpg? --Tito Dutta (talk) 10:55, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
It's not the main logo. It's placed cause it's free. the other three logo are non free. See BPL 2012 , BPL 2013 and BPL.--Pratyya (Hello!) 10:57, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
There is some errors in that logo, that's not their own work and should be svg. Upload an svg logo at Commons, add license PD-text! And have you prepared the list of invitees? --Tito Dutta (talk) 11:01, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
Okay change the image and do whatever to do. Yes I've created a list of 10 and placed the template. Now all I want to ask you should I ask an WP:IPL member?--Pratyya (Hello!) 11:05, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
I don't know about current BPL images, so reluctant to upload an SVG logo. But, that one is badly needed, so, upload one! Yes, you can invite IPL members or WP:India members. More members, more hands to work! The general practice is keeping a list of the members who are invited, soyou can make the list too at WP:BPL talk page--Tito Dutta (talk) 11:09, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
This one is the normal logo.--File:BPL Official Logo.jpg. And this one is for 2013.-- File:Bangladesh Premier League 2013 logo.png. --Pratyya (Hello!) 11:14, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

Sorry for the conflict. But what'll I do? How'll I upload a free logo?--Pratyya (Hello!) 11:22, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

(edit conflict)The first thing I want to see at least 10 working members. For that we need to invite at least 50-60 editors. And that needs a list first! I have posted directly at India noticeboard here Wikipedia_talk:Noticeboard_for_India-related_topics#Invitation_from_WikiProject_Bangladesh_Premier_League. If you invite noticeboards, remember to post at relevant Wikiprojects only! And after making the list of invitees we can invite them individually --Tito Dutta (talk) 11:25, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
  • You'll get few members from WP India for sure. And why aren't you creating list of invitees? The people who regularly watch WT:INB, don't invite them, for example Dwaipayanc etc! --Tito Dutta (talk) 11:34, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
Made a list at the project talk page. All of them are invited. I can't remember 4 other whom I sent. My notebook(analog) is lost. I listed them there. But see if you can find some.--Pratyya (Hello!) 11:41, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
Made some changes there! Main need is the list of members to be invited. And I have asked Meridan again, see what he can do! --Tito Dutta (talk) 11:46, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:17, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

The AFCBuddy

Hey, how did you create the AFCBuddy? Of course you'll think me as a fool. But seriously I like programing, But don't know how to do them. So please tell me!?--Pratyya (Hello!) 15:09, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Hiyas there Pratyya,
As with other program AFCBuddy was created using a specific programming language that defines what it should do and what it should look like. There are hundreds if not thousands of different languages, each easier or more difficult to learn and each better or worse suited for a specific task or program. Note that you really only need to know one or a few of these languages, and that (Exceptions not included) programs are mostly written in just a single language.
AFCBuddy itself is developed in VB.net which is fairly easy to learn, commonly used and more then powerful enough to write virtually any desktop application one would create as a hobby. The development IDE i use to program it is the professional edition of Microsoft Visual Studio though this is mostly because i already had that - the free Microsoft Visual Studio Express would work just as well and frankly has little to no difference in use or performance for a simple program as AFCBuddy.
Afterwards using the IDE is mostly a matter of knowing \ learning how to program something that does what you want it to do. There are many books detailing VB.net and other programming languages, and there are large amounts of code examples on the Internet that explain or demonstrate a certain feature. In AFCBuddy's case the program mostly revolves around communication with the Wikimedia API - it asks for various XML outputs listing user edits, deleted contributions and similar, then processes this data (Counting AFC reviews et cetera) and finally it creates creating several containing the leaderboard / user edits et cetera which i then post manually. (It could do this automatically, but i prefer some manual verification at times). Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 21:06, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
