Deletion of The Slants

[edit]

The article The Slants has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article seemed to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. NawlinWiki 02:31, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of The Slants

[edit]

A tag has been placed on The Slants, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. janejellyroll 00:45, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article The Stivs has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Supported only by self-published sources, and those links attempting to allege notability are also suspect. This smells strongly of "hoax", and the various vandalisms to this walled garden of articles do not convince me otherwise.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Rodhullandemu 02:26, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article The Slants has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:BAND. Sources are thin, to say the least, for inclusion here and are only vaguely independent or relevant.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

A tag has been placed on The Slants requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. License tagging for File:TheSlants.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:TheSlants.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 07:06, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:TheSlants.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:TheSlants.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. We hope (talk) 01:44, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source/license for File:Simon Tam at the Supreme Court.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Simon Tam at the Supreme Court.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time after the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: Once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 14:46, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest (all pages edited by this account)

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Populuxeent. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Chubbles (talk) 17:34, 11 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 21:56, 11 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

{{unblock|This is not a company account and there are no paid individuals involved with it; populuxeent as a username is a reference to Thomas Hine book, "Populuxe," and Paul Yachnin work on Populuxe Art in arts and entertainment. It was also a nod by the early work of Populuxe Entertainment, one of the first music touring companies led by people of color, though that company hasn't been active for some time. I have a long history of editing and updating articles related to Asian Americans, culture, religion, and law and just so happened to only begin using the "Watch This Page" feature on Wikipedia recently so not all of the articles have been updated with the same level of regularity.}}

Your previous edit, like many of your others, was to Simon Tam (musician), who apparently runs a label and music promotion company called Populuxe Entertainment (you also claim to be the copyright holder of an image of Tam). Your "long history of editing" began in 2007, when the first and second subjects you wrote about were Tam and Tam's band. Coincidence? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:08, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

{{unblock|Hi, I'm sorry - I should have been more clear. When I say that it was also a nod to the work of the people of color who ran Populuxe Entertainment, it was to Tam and Cabral, his late partner who died a few years ago. As a longtime fan just learning how to use Wikipedia, I saw those pages as ones under my care so I'd visit often. I didn't really know how to upload the photo properly and since it seemed to be in the public domain (proliferating the news, social media, and so forth in 2017), I uploaded it as such. I should have tagged it properly.}}

So the image is a copyright violation. See boilerplate text bellow. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:53, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Populuxeent, thank you very much for the explanation – would you mind choosing a name that represents you as an individual? A pseudonym would be fine (or even recommendable). ~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:53, 13 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

{{unblock|Yes, I'm fine with changing the username. How do I go about doing so?}}

Thanks Populuxeent – by telling us which name you would like to use instead. 🙂
If you like to, you can use the instructions in the second paragraph of the block message ("If you intend to..." etc.). However, you are not required to use these instructions, and can simply write something like "Please change my username to XYZ". Thank you very much in advance! ~ ToBeFree (talk) 21:14, 14 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again; a renamer will soon have a look at this request. Afterwards, I think I'll remove the block, as the above explanations sound pretty credible to me. @ToBeFree: They should request the change of username through the usual channels (e.g. Special:GlobalRenameRequest); merely waiting for a renamer to happen on an unblock request is inefficient. Huon (talk) 00:49, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Simon Tam at the Supreme Court.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Ashley Albert moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Ashley Albert, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?)
