I am sorry, but this is my first edit and I do not really understand how to proceed. Why do my edits on the Chinese veto on Mogolia's application for UN membership need any citations, for the page "China and the United Nations"? I knew from memory the page was wrong and I did original research to establish that my memory was correct. How is original research supposed to be cited in Wikipedia? I could cite some eight primary UN sources for this paragraph, but that would be ludicrous. On the other hand, anybody who knows anything about the UN can track the primary sources from the dates. The precision of my text implies what the citations are. PeterPedant (talk) 16:07, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
- You'll want to review our policy on original research at WP:OR. We require third-party sources independent of the subject so that anyone who reads the article can click through and find the source of the information they read, or go to a library and track it down, or whatever. They can't do that with your memory. You seem to know a great deal about the topic, if you can be specific about where you got your information, you could use that as a source. But you yourself cannot be a source, unless what you know is published as per our guidelines for reliable sources. Hope this helps. If you need further assistance, just post {{helpme}} on this page.
