Potential nomination of Infectious mononucleosis for GA

[edit]

Hey! I hope this message finds you well. Since you have been one of the major contributors of Infectious mononucleosis, I wanted to let you know that I am considering to nominate the article for WP:GA status. Would you be okay with that? Do you think this is something feasible, and / or something you would like to be involved in? Konstantina07 (talk) 14:07, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Konstantina07. I'm glad you think it's now a potential GA article. I'm okay with such nomination. However, I don't currently have the time myself for review or general improvement of the article. Mikael Häggström (talk) 15:42, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Blue brain

[edit]

Hey Mikael, you posted a picture of a blue colored brain next to a "normal" brain. I have a few questions, and would be immensely thankful if you could answer!

- why, how and in what dosage was the blue coloring administered to the patient?

- how "fresh" were the respective brains?

- why were they laying on a table instead of being in their usual place? :-)

Sorry, I am not a medical professional in the slightest, I just stumbled upon that photo and it deeply disturbed + stuck with me, so I'm hoping if I get some questions answered I'll stop dreaming about blue brains.

Sure. It was a case of vasoplegic syndrome. During the last few days, the ordered dosage of methylene blue was 1mg/kg/hr, and the dosage given was 74 ml of 0.5% methylene blue. Both brains in the image were taken out for clinical autopsy, and have been fixed in formalin, up to a few days after time of death. Mikael Häggström (talk) 14:43, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. This really does mean a lot to me, somehow it put my mind at ease :)) I appreciate it! <3 2A02:8108:2600:238F:DD9:9D04:7091:3CEE (talk) 21:21, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Macpac (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Disambiguation page not required (WP:ONEOTHER). Primary topic article has a hatnote to the only other use.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 08:38, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Wikipedia articles incorporating text from Patholines indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. GMH Melbourne (talk) 07:27, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi Mikael Häggström: I followed a link to Palisade (pathology) for my own information, and found myself reading The purpose of this report is to review the patterns of rosettes and pseudorosettes ..., which indicated copying from a non-encyclopedic source. Checking the reference, I see that it begins Largely copied from:, and indeed in one of your 2019 edits building the article you added a large amount of text credited to that source, with the edit summary "Expanded from CC-BY article". The source article does state that all articles in that journal are published under the CC By license and that "This license permits use, distribution and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited." You've stated and linked to the license in the footnote as well as fully inentifying the source, so that all seems to be above board. However, I am not sure it's entirely right to have a Wikipedia article much of whose text is actually from somewhere else. And it also makes for inappropriate wording like the passage that caught my eye. The article doesn't explain cell palisading very much, and is almost entirely about rosettes. (The image you uploaded of palisading in a basal cell carcinoma actually told me more about what palisading is.) As will be apparent, I don't have medical training; so I don't feel competent to do any rewriting of the article, not even of that sentence about a report. But I do think the article should be recast to present a clearer overview of the topic. And I wonder whether there's been any discussion of the copyright aspects of copying large parts of a source, and whether a footnote is enough attribution? For articles based on the 1911 Britannica, for example, there's a template placed at the bottom of the article specifically stating that text has been copied; and articles based on translating from a different-language Wikipedia are supposed to have a "translated page" template on the talk page. A reader might easily miss the footnote statement. Yngvadottir (talk) 11:47, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Yngvadottir. Thank you for your review of the article. I find it completely appropriate to directly incorporate text from sources with compatible license if it is otherwise in line with what to include in Wikipedia articles. Yet, I agree a footnote could be added. The rosette sections could be wp:forked into a separate article to balance out the content. Mikael Häggström (talk) 16:06, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think it would make more sense to have more about non-rosette palisading, perhaps starting with explaining how palisading is part of tumor formation and putting the rosettes after the non-rosette form? But in any case, I decided to take a stab at rephrasing, adding explanatory links, and copyediting so far as I could (German, and rhabdo- for rhambdo-). Alerting you in case you didn't notice that edit crossing your watchlist, because I am not medically trained and may have messed something up. Yngvadottir (talk) 01:05, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the contributions Yngvadottir! I had a glance at the recent edits and they seem really good. Mikael Häggström (talk) 18:16, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
