Spamming
[edit]Hello, I'm SamX. I wanted to let you know that I removed an external link you added to the page List of chemical process simulators, because it seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. SamX‧☎‧✎ 16:13, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Sam, I'm a bit surprised that you think it was inappropriate, since Mobatec has a state of the art Process Simulator. On the other hand, I'm completely new to this Wikipedia editing (I just made an account an hour ago), so I might have been violating some rules. In which case I offer my apologies, of course. Could you help me out on how to get our simulator listed in this list then? We are relatively new, but it certainly belongs in that list. You can check our website, if you have doubts...
Kind regards, Mathieu.
- Some things you should be aware of:
- Wikipedia:Username policy, which you are currently violating. Your user name must represent only you as an individual. It can't represent an organization.
- Wikipedia is not a promotion or publicity medium, and that's another policy you are violating. Wikipedia is also not a business directory, so it is not possible to "get our simulator listed in this list" with a link to your website. Note that nothing else on that list has an external link. They either have no link, or they link elsewhere on Wikipedia.
- Links normally to be avoided, which include links to sites with which you have a conflict of interest.
- Wikipedia:Conflict of interest - you clearly have one, so you should be aware of this guideline.
- Before you do anything else, request a user name change at WP:CHU/Simple, before this account is blocked as a username policy violation. Thanks. ~Amatulić (talk) 19:58, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
- Some things you should be aware of:
Thanks for the feedback, Amatulic. I did not realize that I was violating quite some policies, so my apologies. I just got a message from someone with a link to this list and the message that I could/should simply add our simulator. So, I tried to do that, without much thinking actually. I just saw a list of simulators in the field I'm active in and I thought to add ours to make it more complete. It was actually not my intention to spam and use it as some kind of free publicity, but I realize it sure looked like that.
I will change the user name and not make any references to the company.
Kind regards,
Mathieu.
- I erred in saying that the list to which you added your link had no other external links. Shortly after posting that note above, I went and cleaned them up. Anyway, I can see how that article would have led you to believe that your addition was OK.
- I have re-added your entry to the list, without the external link.
- Thanks also for submitting your username for changing. ~Amatulić (talk) 23:33, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks again, Amatulić, that is appreciated. I did notice an External Links paragraph at the bottom of the article, but I won't add anything there because that would be in stride with the conflict of interest policy. All the best, Mathieu.
