Talk page conventions

[edit]

Hello and welcome MitzvahCode. I'd like to pass along some advice on posting to talk pages.

  1. When starting a new topic unrelated to previous topics on the page, create it at the bottom of the page. This is to preserve the correct chronological order in which the topics were presented.
  2. Similarly, when replying to an existing topic, put your comments at the bottom of the section. You inadvertently inserted your comments into the middle of a topic at Talk:Arthur Henry White, breaking up the chronological flow of the discussion.
  3. You also edited the comments left by another editor. The basic rule (with certain exceptions) is to not edit or delete others' posts without their permission.

By following these points as well as the entire Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines, you will see how these make discussions more legible and productive for all editors. There are many useful links in the welcome message above which may be of interest to you as well. Best of luck. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 17:01, 24 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh! Thank you for letting me know about this convention. I had approached the talk page comment in question as a list of obituaries that I was adding to—I see how preserving the chronology is more important. I be sure to respect this going forward—should I go back and change that now? Thanks again for the tip! MitzvahCode (talk) 16:38, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    • I’ll* be sure to**

And I see that you already made the edit. Great! MitzvahCode (talk) 16:52, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fixing pings

[edit]

Hi there! I don't know if you're still around and editing, but we discussed on my talk page a couple of weeks back how you go about fixing pings. It turns out there's a whole advice page on this, at WP:PINGFIX, if you want to know how to do it. (It taught me some stuff I hadn't managed to work out from the tech specs.) Anyway, just thought I'd let you know.  :-) YorkshireLad  ✿  (talk) 20:39, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
