Main Page appearance: 2008 Hungarian Grand Prix

[edit]

This is a note to let the main editors of 2008 Hungarian Grand Prix know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on August 3, 2013. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or one of his delegates (Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), Gimmetoo (talk · contribs), and Bencherlite (talk · contribs)), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/August 3, 2013. If it needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. The blurb as it stands now is below:

The course of the Hungaroring

The 2008 Hungarian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on August 3, 2008, at the Hungaroring (course shown) in Mogyoród, near Budapest, Hungary. It was the 11th race of the 2008 Formula One season. Contested over 70 laps, the race was won by Heikki Kovalainen for the McLaren team, from a second position start. Timo Glock finished second in a Toyota car, with Kimi Räikkönen third in a Ferrari. It was Kovalainen's first Formula One victory, which made him the sport's 100th driver to win a World Championship race, and it was Glock's first podium finish. The majority of the race consisted of a duel between Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa, who drove for McLaren and Ferrari, respectively. The two championship rivals began a battle for the lead that was resolved when Hamilton sustained a punctured tyre just over halfway through the race, giving Massa a lead of more than 20 seconds over Kovalainen. The Ferrari's engine, however, failed with three laps remaining, allowing the McLaren driver to win. Räikkönen set the race's fastest lap in the other Ferrari, but was hampered by a poor qualifying performance and was stuck behind Fernando Alonso (Renault) and Glock in turn for almost all of the race. Thank you for quality articles on Grand Prix racing, such as 2008 Hungarian Grand Prix, for maintaining lists of drivers and updating their articles, for "endlessly" uploading pictures and helping others, - you are an awesome Wikipedian!

Help test better mass message delivery

[edit]

Hi. You're being contacted as you've previously used global message delivery (or its English Wikipedia counterpart). It doesn't feel so great to be spammed, does it? ;-)

For the past few months, Legoktm has built a replacement to the current message delivery system called MassMessage. MassMessage uses a proper user interface form (no more editing a /Spam subpage), works faster (it can complete a large delivery in minutes), and no longer requires being on an access list (any local administrator can use it). In addition, many tiny annoyances with the old system have been addressed. It's a real improvement! :-)

You can test out MassMessage here: testwiki:Special:MassMessage. The biggest difference you'll likely notice is that any input list must use a new {{#target:}} parser function. For example, {{#target:User talk:Jimbo Wales}} or {{#target:User talk:Jimbo Wales|test2.wikipedia.org}}. For detailed instructions, check out mw:Help:Extension:MassMessage.

If you find any bugs, have suggestions for additional features, or have any other feedback, drop a note at m:Talk:MassMessage. Thanks for spamming! --MZMcBride (talk) 05:19, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Beginning of MassMessage, end of EdwardsBot

[edit]

Hi. You're being contacted as you're listed as an EdwardsBot user.

MassMessage has been deployed to all Wikimedia wikis. For help using the new tool, please check out its help page or drop a note on Meta-Wiki.

With over 400,000 edits to Wikimedia wikis, EdwardsBot has served us well; however EdwardsBot will no longer perform local or global message delivery after December 31, 2013.

A huge thanks to Legoktm, Reedy, Aaron Schulz and everyone else who helped to get MassMessage deployed. --MZMcBride (talk) 02:37, 22 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Toni Vilander, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page World Endurance Championship (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Autocourse 1999

[edit]

Looking through the WP:MOTOR library I see that you have a copy of the Autocourse annual for 1999. I know it mostly covers F1, but I was curious if it had any coverage of Le Mans 1999, and specifically the Mercedes-Benz CLR incidents. Anything that could help corroborate or add to what I'm working on could be useful. The359 (Talk) 00:37, 8 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you much, anything would be most helpful. I'm mostly interested because although I have a lot of sources several of them contradict each other, either from simply assuming things or misinformation, so anything from a higher quality source that could help paint a clearer picture would be fruitful. The359 (Talk) 09:26, 8 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There's definitely some good additions there. Regarding the things that contradict what I have already, I do have other sources which somewhat back what the book says about Webber's CLR impacting the ground on its right side, although the fact that it was at a right angle to the track is new. Regarding the use of a new chassis for Webber, I also have some sources which state that Mercedes planned to repair the car, but I also have an interview with Norbert Haug which states that they have three seriously damaged monocoque and one remaining car (Lagorche's), implying that two monocoques were used in Webber's car. Finally, I have an interview with Dumbreck which states he was unconscious after his wreck, so I think his words would trump in this situation.
The only question I have is if it mentions which CLR suffered the pulled the suspension link in pre-qualifying?
Otherwise, thank you again, there are some things I definitely needed that you've added. The359 (Talk) 20:17, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Autocourse 2010 & Official Formula 1 Season Review 2010 books

[edit]

Hi. I am currently working on getting the 2010 Korean Grand Prix to FA. I understand from the WP:MOTORSPORT library that you have a wide variety of motorsport books covering individual seasons of Formula One and I was wondering if you had the Autocourse Annual for 2010 and from the Official Formula 1 Season Review book from the same year. I would specifically like to know where there is any further information that I am missing that would help corroborate or extend the article that I am working on. Z105space (talk) 14:02, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I understand. Please let me know when you have access to the books. Z105space (talk) 09:33, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hello,
In answer to your question, Noda is less significant as his entire F1 career consisted of 3 retirements for Larrousse. This does not make him notable in any respect. Not for Larrousse, not for the LH94 nor in F1. Alliot & Dalmas both had lengthy F1 careers and drove regularly for the team. (Alliot over 100 GPs, 60+ for Larrousse) (Dalmas approx 50, about half of them for Larrousse) This makes them notable in F1 and for Larrousse but not, perhaps, for the LH94. But it still makes them notable drivers who drove this car, however briefly. Your edit also restored Deletraz as a notable driver which no-one would agree with, as well as restoring the drivers’ Nos. to the infobox which some pages seem to have but the great majority (correctly I believe) do not. Would also mention that the page & infobox were created/edited by the IP editor who has had 3 blocks for disruptive editing over the past couple of months. Eagleash (talk) 00:00, 26 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your considered reponse. IIRC (although I may be wrong on this, it's been a while and I don't edit much any more) the fact that the field is entitled "notable" is because the F1 car infobox was merged into the more general racing car infobox, which could include cars like Ford GT40, Dallara GP2/11 etc. which have had too many drivers to list in a single infobox to be practical. By contrast, even the longest-serving of F1 cars will not have more than a handful of drivers (excepting perhaps private entries, which does not apply in this case). I would therefore argue that all drivers of a car in the works team are sufficiently notable to remain in the infobox, as attempts to decide who is and who is not notable enough will invariably be subjective (as our difference of opinion proves) unless consistent criteria are set. Perhaps this is an issue to take to WP:F1? I have re-removed the car numbers. I don't understand what you mean by IP editor, as the article doesn't seem to have been edited by any anonymous users - please could you elaborate? Thanks,—Midgrid(talk) 00:12, 26 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Are you Midgrid from F1 Rejects BTW? Anyways, yes it is always subjective and there was a (fairly) recent discussion on the project page about it I think, but I don't recall the outcome. (I admit I didn't keep up with it). I believe Lotterer and Stevens were recently removed from the Caterham F1 page arguing lack of notability. And one editor used the summary (precised) "It's notable drivers, not all drivers". But yes raise it at WT:F1 by all means. Re. IP editor I was under the impression that this was another of his plethora of car articles thrown at Wiki recently but I see now that it's of longer standing than that. Eagleash (talk) 00:39, 26 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's me! Thanks for the information; I will go through the WT:F1 archive when I have some free time and see if I can find anything relevant. In the meantime, please feel free to revert my reversion. :P —Midgrid(talk) 16:10, 27 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
