WikiProject Tropical cyclones/Tracks

[edit]

Hello, I have recently been attempting to install the Wikipedia Track map generator and am able to open the Cygwin repository, however I am having trouble with accessing the file generated with the project. I know that it is most likely already downloaded on my computer, however I do not know what folder it is stored in. I am consulting you because I know that you are a long-time user. Could you help me with this issue and teach me some other things about the project like how to get it to store track maps in specific folders? Thank you! 2003 LN6 (talk) 03:58, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't generate on Windows so I can't really answer.  🐱💬 16:57, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! Since you usually update the track maps for storms, could you help me create some maps for this project? OhHaiMark (talk) 20:58, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What do you want to create? The maps are already available for that season.  🐱💬 16:31, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the maps that are currently in the 1980 Pacific typhoon season don't use the new colors for track maps. Since my computer is nowhere near powerful enough to install the track map generator and I'm not too eager to repetitively create a map out of plotted points, I was wondering if you could help me? OhHaiMark (talk) 03:12, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It actually does not require a powerful computer to generate.  🐱💬 13:13, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Depression LAND02

[edit]

Hello, I have noticed that the source for the track map of Depression LAND02 in the 2024 North Indian Ocean cyclone season is a pdf that does not include the track data on the IMD website. Where do you get your track data from? When I open the pdf, I just get Remal's track data without any other storms. I would like to know this to help update the track maps. Thank you! 2003 LN6 06:47, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Is there explicitly compiled track data on each of them or do we have to look at every single 6-hour bulletin? 2003 LN6 07:04, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just grabbed the positions page-by-page.  🐱💬 07:29, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Also, how did you make the Hone track? When I tried saving the track data as a .dat file, inputting it into Wikipedia's TrackGen in Cygwin with the correct commands, it made an incomplete track that cut off the precursor low part and put it off the screen. The dots were there, but they were off the track map. 2003 LN6 17:29, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't use TrackGen and Cygwin so I can't figure out what the problem is.  🐱💬 17:31, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How did you make the trackmap and what software did you use to make it? 2003 LN6 19:50, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I use the genuine software on macOS.  🐱💬 14:55, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
