Virgil Ortiz and Betty Manygoats

Hello. I added the Museum of Texas Tech University as a noted institution that holds pieces by Virgil Ortiz (as well as Seferina Ortiz, Inez Ortiz, and Mary Janice Ortiz). They were donated to the Museum of Texas Tech University by William C. and Evelyn M. Davies and are showcased in the Davies' Gallery of the Museum. We do not have a citation, but there are a number of these items on display. How do we note that we have these in our collection even if we do not have a cited reference. I can provide an example of one of the pieces in the collection, 'Opera Singer 1997' by Virgil Ortiz. Seferina Ortiz has a piece called 'Brown Bear 1990' in the collection. I hope this helps provide some information that will allow the addition of the Museum of Texas Tech University in the listing of institutions that hold pieces by Virgil Ortiz in the Wikipedia entry. Thank you. The same goes for Betty Manygoats, we have a lovely piece (as well as others) on display including a Wedding Vase she created in the 1990s. @TiredAndHungryToo: hello, this was in regards to the changes to the precursor history section - you had changed it to read "Patterson and a local white carriage builder, J.P. Lowe, created J.P. Lowe & Company in 1873" which isn't what is said in the citations. In your edits you also removed citations. Jooojay (talk) 14:45, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

@Jooojay: That is sourced from two places. The first place is https://nmaahc.si.edu/blog-post/only-african-american-automobile-company, which says that "In 1873, he formed a business partnership with another carriage maker in town, J.P. Lowe, who was white" and then also https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a26360175/african-american-automaker/, which says- n 1873, Patterson and J.P. Lowe, a white local carriage maker, became partners in establishing J. P. Lowe & Company, a successful independent carriage manufacturer. @TiredAndHungryToo: Hi again, thanks for writing back. My understanding from the multitude of sources used to create the article was that the business of J. P. Lowe & Company existed prior to Patterson joining him - but then they formed a partnership together (which was like a new company), while the existing company of J. P. Lowe & Company continued on with Patterson as an employee. However I could be wrong about this? I am open to digging deeper into the sources. I think it would make sense to move a discussion like this one to the talk page of the article and compare the sources (since often old sources do contain contradictory information). Also no worries re: the removal of the sources, we all make mistakes here - especially when we are new because they don't make editing Wikipedia easy! Mel Edwards

Hi Jooojay Thank you for your constructive comments. I am just starting out - please can you clarify why there can be no mention of commercial galleries in artist pages? 'No commercial gallery ads' when this is part of their biography. In this instance Melvin Edwards is represented by Stephen Friedman Gallery, London and this is not mentioned in the article.
