Hey -- I changed your speedy into a prod here. Just so you understand, violating WP:CORP, WP:MUSIC, WP:BIO, et cetera, do not constitute criteria for speedy deletion. Deletion, yes, speedy, no. Advertising/spam is also not a speedy deletion criteria. Check out WP:CSD for the list of criteria; it helps if you can point to the specific criterion you think applies when using speedy tags. prod for Kiddy Grade characters

I'm curious as to why you {{prod}}'ed only some of the Kiddy Grade characters for Fancruft and not others. I'm not a Kiddy Grade fan or anything... just going through the AFD category, and I noticed those. --Jhortman 16:10, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Georgia congressional district maps

The ones you removed are still the current district maps - the new maps go into effect at the start of the next Congress in January. Qqqqqq 23:19, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

I disagree. The districts became official as soon as they were passed by the Georgia State Legislature and were signed by the Governor. The first elections to be affected by this new redistricting process were the elections in the 2006 cycle, which started with the party primaries on June 19. The only significance of January is that the officials elected under the new districting system take office in January. The districts themselves, however, were "official" long before that. --Jhortman 02:24, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Well, the current members of the House from Georgia are representing those old districts through next week. In any event, how about if we up the new district maps now? I'm not sure they're out yet, other than those poor-quality ones produced for information purposes by the General Assembly. I suppose the National Atlas will be putting them out soon. Exactly... they're representing the old districts. You're right, though... in a week, it won't matter. There are actually some pretty good-quality current maps in a PDF file at http://www.cviog.uga.edu/Projects/gainfo/gacdmap.htm. Unfortunately, that site is owned by UGA, and is protected by copyright. I agree with you that National Atlas will probably have the new maps up before too long... it might be easiest to wait until they post the maps. (Though it would be pretty cool to make your own district maps... very time-consuming, though.) --Jhortman 03:28, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
It would probably be too difficult to use those UGA-produced maps, but they're better than nothing. Although I wonder now whether it might not be valuable to have historical maps of these districts -- perhaps including the old maps with a caption indicating that these were the maps used in the 2002 and 2004 elections, and then later we can add the new maps, noting that they will be used in the 2006, 2008, and 2010 elections? For the sake of completeness, that seems like it would be a viable solution. And on another note, what do you think about making a page with a statewide map (again, perhaps after the new maps are entered into National Atlas)? It's funny you should mention that... that's what I requested they do with the files over at Wikimedia Commons, where the files are hosted (that is, I requested they changed the name of the file to "blah blah district, 2002-2005"). I think a statewide map is a great idea, but I'm not sure I'd want to create it. I'm a much better editor than creator.  :-) --Jhortman 03:48, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Georgia congressional district maps

Thanks for noticing my contributions. Hopefully I've helped clear up confusion about the new districts at least a bit. You might never guess by looking at my user page, but I'm actually a Georgia resident. As far as the above discussion goes (although I guess it's mostly moot by now), I'd agree with your first response, and argue that the new districts were effective as soon as they were legislated. The reason being that while the then still-in-session 109th Congress was elected by constituents of the old districts, it would be the constituents of the new districts who would determine in the next regularly scheduled election whether or not each representative would return for the 110th. Thus, voters grouped together by the new boundaries were already effectively "represented" by those they did not necessarily elect. On the other hand, it doesn't hurt to make a distinction like "adopted 2005, effected 2006" or somesuch. BTW, I hope you don't mind if I grab the maps linked above to add as secondary sources to Georgia Congressional Districts. Cheers! -Tobogganoggin talk 00:04, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

All fair use images are required to have a fair use rationale to state why they meet our criteria for inclusion. You are right, there are a lot of national football team logos that do not have the required rationale. Thank you for bringing them to my attention. I was able to find three that have rationales:

I would also recommend that you specify for which articles you are writing the fair use rationale. This logo wouldn't meet the fair use criteria everywhere (i.e., player pages, tournament pages, etc), so it's best to be specific. ~ BigrTex 19:10, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. New Years Message for WikiProject United States

With the first of what I hope will be monthly newsletters I again want to welcome you to the project and hope that as we all work together through the year we can expand the project, create missing articles and generally improve the pedia thought mutual cooperation and support. Now that we have a project and a solid pool of willing members I wanted to strike while the iron is hot and solicite help in doing a few things that I believe is a good next step in solidifiing the project. I have outlined a few suggestions where you can help with on the projects talk page. This includes but is not limited too updating Portal:United States, assessing the remaining US related articles that haven't been assessed, eliminating the Unrefernced BLP's and others. If you have other suggestions or are interested in doing other things feel free. I just wanted to offer a few suggestions were additional help is needed. Florida–Georgia

Jhortman, there are now fourteen "notable" games listed in the article. I don't know if we have the right fourteen games listed, but I guess it's a representative sample. Since UGA still holds the series lead, it would be appropriate if we added one more UGA win to the list. Currently, we are heavy on games from 1970 on. Is there another pre-1970 game that Dawg fans consider especially significant? Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 02:54, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

Good question. Recentism has certainly been evident in the past, though it's gotten somewhat better now. My vote for the most significant pre-1970 game on the list is the 1964 contest. It was Vince Dooley's first season at the helm and it broke a 13-year streak during which Georgia had gone 2-11. The 7 games from '64-'70 were split 3-3-1, but it led to the Georgia-dominated era of the '70's and 80's. If you agree, I'll add that '64 game to the notable list.
There are other games that might be candidates... the '27 game or the '46 games took place during seasons after which Georgia was named national champions in minor polls, but they are not really notable for reasons other than that. To be perfectly honest, before Florida's winning streak in the 1950's and '60's, not many games were considered "notable" by Georgia fans because they generally always won. Even the '42 game was really only notable because of the margin of victory (which took on greater importance later in history, not at the time of the game). -Jhortman (talk) 03:26, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
The 1964 game looks like a good candidate. Nominal upset of the Gators, Dooley's first game in the series, two evenly matched coaches and teams, Dawg's reversal of previous streak, and you've even got the baby-faced version of the Evil Genius. I think it would make a good addition to the list.
I've had my own issues with the way the notable games list was previously weighted to the 1990s and 2000s, largely, I suspect, because those are games within living memory of younger fans. An older UF-oriented editor recently said on the talk page that there weren't many references available for the pre-1980 games, to which I responded, "Huh?" The 1928 and 1949 Gator wins were very big deals to Florida fans, and the 10–2 streak in the 1950s and early 1960s was among the highlights of the Woodruff and Graves eras. The Dawgs' "upsets" of the Gators in 1975 and 1976 kept those Doug Dickey teams from winning a share of the SEC title both years. Fans always seem to think college football history started their freshman year in college. LOL
BTW, I'm working on footnoting all of the notable games with linked articles from Google News Archive. I also have about a dozen books about Gators football that use to fill gaps. If you have hard-copy books about Dawgs football, we should really include them in the Bibliography section. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 04:02, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
