Filipino Sign Language
[edit]Hello, I would like to address you regarding the Filipino Sign Language in the Philippines page.
Republic Act no. 11106 declares FSL as the national sign language, not national language. It is the official means of communication (language) of transaction involving the deaf, not all transactions. FSL is the official and national sign language only. It was not declared as the official and national language. That's where the difference is.
While it is TRUE that the FSL is also a language, the law was specific in declaring that it is a national and official sign language. It was not declared as another national and official language.
What will be good is to create another heading/subtitle called National Sign Language and/or Official Sign Language with the FSL under it so as to avoid a confusion between what is a national language and a national sign language. The same applies between an official language and an official means of communication involving the deaf (official sign language/official language of the Filipino deaf).
I think the distinction lies in the FSL being the national and official sign language of the Filipino deaf while the Filipino language is the national and official language of the Filipino nation.

- I see that adding the FSL might cause confusion that while both have "national" and "official" status, FSL is only declared as a national/official sign language and those who are not aware of the relevant laws might mistake FSL and Filipino as joint national languages. It isn't possible to create a new language heading so I tweaked the auxiliary language heading one to "other recognized languages" to also accommodate national sign language without removing any of the existing language header completely.Hariboneagle927 (talk)
