Okay, I am asking for the unblock not to put the page up, Gerry has asked me never to put anything up about him on Wikipedia. This disaster has done him a disservice, I wish I had never entered it. He would appreciate the page cleaned up. Therefore despite our differences on encyclopaedic verse promotional regarding the content, I will not put up a page about him instead please unblock me and put the account in my name - Alison Formiani - and I will clean all this up to the best of my ability. There will be no pages about him and as much as this disappoints me I have to recognise we aren't agreeing and there's no point arguing and I will respect your decision and position and all I want now is to clean up this mess and not have him on the Wikipedia record like this. Please unblock me on this premise only and put the account in my name, respectfully Alison.

Welcome!

Hello, Gerry Georgatos, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Hello, Gerry Georgatos. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article People smuggling, you may need to consider our guidance on conflicts of interest.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. SQGibbon (talk) 02:09, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for using Wikipedia to promote what appear to be your views (or at least the views of someone with the same name as this account). If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

Your reason here AzadiSabach (talk) 08:56, 5 January 2013 (UTC) I understand much better what I didn't comprehend before. I wrote the page about Gerry Georgatos because I know him, we are partnered, and everything is factual. He didn't want the page coordinated by a nom de plum because he knew about it and proofed it and it's not his way to do anything without integrity, being up front. We know many are on Wikipedia under the guise that they have not written their pages, but they have in an effort in order to be factually correct, similarly as I checked with Gerry. Therefore please reconsider the page as it's not fair a person like him should be misjudged and especially as I put the work page and inserts together for the Wikipedia record. Nevertheless, we understand the rules much better and will follow them to the letter, and desist from various inserts and updates and leave the rest up to others unless something is factually incorrect and then we will only follow the Wikipedia appeal, mediation and consensus protocols. I first started this page from my computer therefore a different IP address and the rest of the updates and inserts from this laptop. If Gerry's page can come back up that would be much appreciated, if not then we accept the decision and will not use Wikipedia to include Gerry's worthwhile contributions and history, however given the opportunity to come back to Wikipedia unblocked then we won't misuse it even inadvertently. If what I've put up about Gerry could be returned that would be great for the public record or those inserts to other pages that consensus deems appropriate. And if Gerry's page is up again and unblocked I will take exclusively responsibility for it. I think it would be best to change the User Talk page to my name instead of Gerry's name for this creation, therefore Alison Formiani. If you can change it to my name and therefore the attributions of pages and contributions come to me this may help to resolve the problem and there maybe less issue presumably. I don't know what else to write but that I'm sorry, and that everything written is factually correct but I and we do understand your reasons and what to do and not to do in the future. Also please if you do unblock Gerry's page, can you remove the 'User' from in front of his name, I have not been able to, and can you change the User Talk name and attributions to my name - Alison Formiani. Thank you.[reply]

Decline reason:

Only one unblock request is needed at a time. See the one below. JamesBWatson (talk) 17:34, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

There are several problems:

What would you say about this?

If you wish to apply for an unblock to change your username, use {{unblock-un}}. You talk about unblocking Gerry's page; it is not Gerry's page, it is your page editing under his name. Every user page is prefixed with the word "User" - that is how the encyclopedia works, and it is not physically possible to comply with your request to remove the word from your posting. If you achieve an unblock to change your name then you can create an article about Gerry Georgatos if you wish; in my opinion the text as posted on your userpage is not encyclopedic in wikipedia terms and would in all probability not be retained here without significant modification. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 11:38, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hi editors, following your advice I am seeking hence to unblock this account so I can change the name to me, user=new username, Alison Formiani. Currently the User: Gerry Georgatos to change to User: Alison Formiani. The reason because it is me, and I thought being new that the page about Gerry should be in his name. I would like to put his page back up but some of the editors have issue with the page and the user name and that it appears a conflict and I accept this and my mistakes. I note that Anthony has advised the the User name change and that despite this he considers the content on Gerry's page as not encyclopedic, I'll have to worry about this after the name change but do note that I do consider absolutely encyclopaedic and may ask at the next step for a consensus decision if we don't agree because I personally followed other Wikipedia pages to format and present his page, and I followed one in particular on (former Senator) Dr Bob Brown and cannot understand how that one is encyclopaedic and Gerry's isn't when I did the same format. If Gerry's isn't encyclopaedic then surely Bob Brown's is not, and Bob Brown's is full of views and statements and assertions which represent him as I worked very hard to be succinct in factually representing Gerry Georgatos. I don't understand the inconsistencies on the comment on content, and I note that one of your editors BWilkins presumably liked the page and polished it up but another editor didn't, I understand differences in views however this strangely lends to inconsistency. How can Bob Brown's be up and Gerry Georgatos' be down, how can one editor like Gerry's and another not? It all started by my personally stupid mistake to create the account in Gerry's name thinking this is what you do. My respect to all of you and please consider unblocking the account and recreating it in my name = Alison Formiani = and getting the page Gerry Georgatos up and running and I will try my best to format in as encyclopaedic a fashion as possible. Otherwise do I just start from scratch from another account down the track. I just can't believe a page on Gerry Georgatos is being blocked sadly but so be it, and I suppose I messed up with how to start to it up but I'm trying for the sake of the public record to remedy this here. I too am an academic and I truly believe I've done Gerry's page in an enyclopaedic format and with more than 50 links for the public record and its validity. Can we unblock the account and set it up as Alison Formiani and go from there?

Decline reason:

I see nothing whatever in anything you have written that suggests you have any intention of doing anything other than use Wikipedia for promotion. You even go so far as to say "If what I've put up about Gerry could be returned that would be great", despite the fact that the page you refer to was nothing but blatant promotion. You really seem not yet to have grasped the point that Wikipedia is not a medium for promotion. JamesBWatson (talk) 17:34, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry to write this but Gerry Georgatos has read these pages and has asked that if the account is not changed into my name = Alison Formiani = then for the whole account to deleted altogether with no record. He does not want the account in his name in any way and especially in this blocked state. So if you are not going to unblock, recreate in my name then please delete the whole account altogether and leave no record.

It is not physically possible for an account to be deleted; the software does not permit it. I would prefer that a previously uninvolved admin decides the question of a namechange unblock. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 14:40, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I oppose unblocking this account as its only goal here appears to be promotion of a particular person with no regards to a COI. Also, even after I pointed Alison to the userpage policy, she still doesn't understand the difference between a userpage and encyclopedic article (or Wikipedia and Facebook). I'm not declining myself though, leaving this to another admin to decide. Max Semenik (talk) 17:13, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
