Verifiability vs. OR

[edit]

Sorry, but you need to understand that Wikipedia is not about trying to figure out what's true, applying analysis and understanding of situations to determine the real, underlying truth. Doing that is original research, and not allowed. Rather, what we do is report what reliable sources say. If you can find a reliable source that says the opposite of the NYT article, then we can include both opinions. But you can't just argue based on your own personal understanding of the facts involved. Qwyrxian (talk) 03:23, 2 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Gandhijr REPLY:

I have provided article from well renowned Indian scholarAsghar Ali Engineer who recently passed away and has been working on the draft for codification of Muslim Personnel Law. Here is the link to the article [1]. You point to an article written regarding the hindu muslim hatred and not about Muslim personnel law that too by an author who probably never even looked at the Muslim personnel law to understand what it is.

Not sure how you blame me that i am pushing some agenda. Not even Bangladesh has Sharia Law. Both India and Bangladesh declared themselves as secular nations and use the British Muhammadan Law as foundation for the legal system.Gandhijr (talk) 03:54, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

We could possibly add another source with a contradictory statement, though I'm not sure that newageislam counts as a reliable source. But if it does, then we have to include both the NYT assessment and Engineer's assessment. I don't mean to say that you're pushing an agenda (that's an WP:NPOV problem), but this is a WP:OR issue--we have to go by what the sources say, and when sources contradict, we include both opinions, unless we can really conclusively show that one side is in the vast minority. GANDHIJR REPLY TO QWYRXIAN: Here is the link for rediff article where anjum Choudary wants a march in delhi demanding sharia law [2] India is lucky that it does not have such fanatics as anjum choudary and we need to present the right picture for the people who come here to read about Islam in India. Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Illegal immigration in India may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
  • Bangladeshis]] form the largest group of migrants in India followed by [[Pakistani]] and [Nepalese]]. <ref name="censusindia.gov.in"/>.

Please note that the riot around the offensive tweet is already covered in the section "Restaurant". There is no need to have the info double in the article. The Banner talk 19:30, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
