Question about change to Provenance article

Hello, I am very new to editing Wikipedia and I am trying to learn by doing some small edits where I think they are needed. I just tried doing a minor edit on the entry for Provenance/Archives. I added an external link to lead the user to the journal Provenance, which was mentioned. When you first undid my edit I thought it was because I made a mistake, which I noticed and was going back to fix. However when I did it again, you reverted the edit. I would like to know the reasoning behind it so that I do not make the same mistake again. I could not find what rule I violated when I looked at your "Read this first page." Thanks TheMadGiggler76 (talk) 20:45, 2 March 2015 (UTC)TheMadGiggler76

@TheMadGiggler76: I undid your edit twice? My apologies. However, please see WP:EL, our policy in embedding external links within prose. This is more appropriate as a footnote or a link in the "External Links" section. You may see Help:Referencing for beginners if you need help with footnotes. Thanks, Epic Genius (talk) 20:47, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

Editing Wesley Taylor's Page

Hi Epicgenius,

I am a new user and have been trying to edit the content of Wesley Taylor's page. He is a client at Anonymous content, where I intern, and he emailed us a specific bio he would like reflected on his page.

My initial edits were rejected as they lacked citations. I carefully cited the new changes, but received the message below.

"Joseph2302 left a message on your talk page in "March 2015". Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at Wesley Taylor, you may be blocked from editing."

As a new user, how can I make the changes reflect his requested biography? I apologize for any confusion and appreciate your help!

Best, Talent Intern

Talentintern (talk) 00:24, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

@Talentintern: I reverted these changes because your edits added unreferenced information in lieu of sourced information. If Wesley Taylor would like to provide references for his changes to his biography, he can do so; otherwise, per our policies on living people and references, the unsourced information can be removed. You can add sources to support your claims. If you need other help on this, you can also go to the Help desk or Reference desk. Epic Genius (talk) 01:03, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
Just so you know, I've also responded to TalentIntern on my talkpage (my reversion reason were slightly different to yours), and also recommended that we use the article talkpage from now on. Joseph2302 (talk) 01:14, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the notice. Epic Genius (talk) 01:15, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi @Epicgenius, Thank you for your help and reply. I am okay with moving this to Wesley's page, and will post a longer response there. Thanks again, Talent Intern — Preceding unsigned comment added by Talentintern (talkcontribs) 01:50, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

Shooting of Michael Brown

To avoid confusion, I moved the draft article to User:ChrisGualtieri/Shooting of Michael Brown--temp. As you know, it can't stay there indefinitely. Draft space , tho basically a good idea, has its limitations. DGG ( talk ) 10:08, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

Hudson River Ship Canal reverts

Dear User:Epicgenius. Let's work this out. All these articles are convoluted. You can see I'm working on them. If you have a different view, and cites, let's meet at Talk and work it out. Yours, Wikiuser100 (talk) 13:46, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

Same goes for your snarky edit summary at the Harlem River river page. My correction was not "wrong", I corrected a "wrong" statement. You took it a step further, which I considered but didn't want to invite just what happened.

Come one, you've racked up over 100K edits at Wikipedia in just over years. You know better than to bowl into things and treat another experienced editor this way. You made a "Bold" revert. I undid it, and am seeing to untangle the three pages involved. If you know better, educate me. But don't try to draw me into an edit war, already well underway. Thank you. Yours, Wikiuser100 (talk) 13:54, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Nightlife legislation in New York City, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Doormen. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hello Epicgenius. ..I am a 22 year veteran of The New York City Transit Police. Every edit I made is a matter of record

@Caryez1: Thank you for your service on the NYC Transit Police. However, our Wikipedia policy says that every edit without a source can be challenged and removed. Please provide a source so that your edit is less likely to be contested. Thanks again, Epic Genius (talk) 04:09, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

@ Epicgenius. .would you please make a change on Police Officer Irma Lozada ' page....change badge number to SHIELD number . In NYC regardless of the department. ..it is referred to as a shield and not a badge. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Caryez1 (talkcontribs) 09:32, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

@Caryez1: I will change it this time, but just remember, for next time, you can change it as well. Epic Genius (talk) 13:40, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
Actually,, I cannot change it, because it is part of the infobox and the "badge number" needs to be changed by editing Template:Infobox police officer. Epic Genius (talk) 13:43, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

Just a question

Hi Epic Genius! :D Long time, no see! I just had a quick question about your edit on the World Trade Center article. I was just curious, why did you collapse the information box? Is it because its too long? :) Cheers! CookieMonster755 (talk) 05:27, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

@CookieMonster755: It was due to a concern on the talk page, by Orange Suede Sofa, that the infobox was too long. So, I collapsed it for easier reading. Epic Genius (talk) 14:56, 9 March 2015 (UTC)
Epicgenius -- Aye, I understand, thank you! Also, what is the status on the split proposal? :) The split proposal for splitting the World Trade Center article into the 1973-2001 World Trade Center and the new (current) World Trade Center. I has been up for weeks, so I was just wondering who has the authority to close and split the article. Cheers! CookieMonster755 (talk) 01:06, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
@CookieMonster755: It looks like people want to split the page. However, this article is a Good Article, so any significant changes, like a split, would have to be carefully drafted out first. Expect any split to take approximately 6 months because of the great attention given to this article. Epic Genius (talk) 02:09, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

Category:Buildings and structures destroyed in the September 11 attacks

I've got a bit of an issue with this category. Most of the buildings listed as "destroyed" exist. Granted, I understand we're talking about older versions of them that were destroyed, but the main focus on those articles are buildings that presently exist. The building that is 1WTC didn't exist before 9/11 at all, as it's a completely different structure from the Twin Towers, which to my surprise do not have their own article. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:30, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

@Muboshgu: That's because many of the "destroyed" buildings were rebuilt. For example, there were two 4 WTCs and two 7 WTCs. The originals were destroyed, but the new ones exist, so the categories are true of the original towers.

The Twin Towers' article is at World Trade Center and at the 1 and 2 WTCs' articles. There is no separate article specifically for the Twin Towers, but the separate towers are described at the 1 and 2 WTCs' articles, and the towers asa whole are described as part of a whole group in the main WTC article. @Buster7: Thanks! (I also have another 100000 award above, by the way). Epic Genius (talk) 13:40, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
hmmmmmm! Yes, I see that. There is a serious penalty for displaying an "un-official" 100K award. I don't know what that penalty is.....but it's serious!!! As you can see by this page I am the Official Giver-Outer of the Award. While any previous award may have been given to you with the best of intentions, its kind of like a fake Rolex wristwatch. The choice is yours. You can wear the $19.95 Rolex (which is not really a Rolex and should be called something like "Roll-of-toiletpaper X") or you can wear the jeweled movement, 24 carat authentic $5327.00 Rolex. I think the choice is obvious. BTW, the other 300 or so Award recipients all have REAL Awards. So, if you 100K guys and gals ever have a convention, you better make sure you bring the Official 100K Award. Have a nice day. . Buster Seven Talk 18:14, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
@Buster7: I buy all my counterfeit stuff, including the fake 100K award, at Canal Street in New York City. I just hope that there's no penalty for me. Epic Genius (talk) 18:16, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

"Emblem" and route "bullet"

What's wrong with some little professional writing? What does emblem mean then? They both mean the same exact thing. JoesphBarbaro (talk) 20:20, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

@JoesphBarbaro: "Emblem" means "an abstract or representational pictorial image". The NYC Subway circular/diamond route icons are more accurately described as "route bullets", since they are not strictly abstract representations. Epic Genius (talk) 23:05, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for using VisualEditor and sharing your ideas with the developers.

Hello, Epicgenius,

The Editing team is asking for your help with VisualEditor. I am contacting you because you were one of the very first testers of VisualEditor, back in 2012 or early 2013. Please tell them what they need to change to make VisualEditor work better for you. The team has a list of top-priority problems, but they also want to hear about small problems. These problems may make editing less fun, take too much of your time, or be as annoying as a paper cut. The Editing team wants to hear about and try to fix these small things, too.

You can share your thoughts by clicking this link. You may respond to this quick, simple, anonymous survey in your own language.
