Autopatrolled granted
Hi Elysia (Wiki Ed), I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! TonyBallioni (talk) 19:38, 1 October 2018 (UTC)

October 2018
Hi Elysia (Wiki Ed). After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:
- Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
- Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
- Rollback should never be used to edit war.
- If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
- Use common sense.
If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! GABgab 23:38, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

Hello.
I need help with an article that I am editing. I am doing this as part of a project for school. I have gone through all of our training. The part that I am confused about it the references. We are required to give 6 references. I don't know how to add the references to my article. I am not actually citing anything, I am just listing articles that I used for my information. I am not sure if I may need to cite some things in my article or not. I am not listing any specific numbers, quotes or paraphrases. If I do decide to cite something, I am confused about how to do that as well. I have the article on visual editor right now. Can you help walk me through what I need to do?

I screwed up ...
Hi Elysia,
By mistake, I edited the page of Mercedes López-Morales directly instead of my Sandbox because they were open in two tabs next to each other. I can't figure out how to undo it. Could you please do it for me and tell me how to?
Thank you, ILoveMath1989 (talk) 19:33, 9 November 2018 (UTC)
- @ILoveMath1989: looking at the history of the page ([1]) it appears that you were able to successfully undo your own edit. Nice work! In the future, for any article, you can click on the "view history" tab, which has a record of each edit. Each edit also has an "undo" button next to it so that edits can be quickly reverted. However, I also looked like you did a good job editing the page, and it would have been fine if you didn't undo it! Elysia (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:49, 9 November 2018 (UTC)
May a search-result link be used in Wikipedia?
Elysia -- THANKS for the kitten! Meow! In one of your messages you gave a link to a search using Susan Brown's name together with the name of her collaborator, Stewartson . .. I am not sure how to use all of those links ... May I link to the search? . .. or would it be advisable to copy ALL of the citations that involve Brown as an author or ??? ALSO, it seems I should have been able to respond to you under the information you gave, but I was unsure how to do that.... Thanks, JoAnne PraiseMath 21:10, 9 November 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by PraiseMath (talk • contribs)
- Hi PraiseMath: you have the option to edit individual sections on a talk page instead of adding new section. At the section header of the message you want to respond to, you should see a little blue hyperlink to the right of the words that says "edit source". Once you hit edit source, you can leave your message under the same section.
- As for using all those links, you certainly don't have to use all of those publications! For the "selected publications" section, it is considered good to only include the most influential publications an author has--an average Wikipedia reader won't want an exhaustive list! So feel free to pick 3-5 highly cited publications from that link to include. You can have more than that if you want, but you probably shouldn't have more than 10. You should notice that the URL has a "cited by" link underneath each publication that tells how many times it has been cited. That's a useful tool to gauge how impactful individual publications are. I played with the search terms again [2] and found that one of her publications "Laminar separation" was cited over 200 times, which would be a good one to include! I can help with formatting again if you need me to.
- Elysia -- when you have time I would love to have you check my Sandbox. I think I am about ready to quit Susan Brown for a while BUT I need help with the format of "Selected Publications." Please advise. Thanks!
- Also please remind me of the proper way to transfer content from my Sandbox to Susan Brown's Wikipedia page . . . and what sort of reporting I need to make at that site.
- Thanks!
- PraiseMath 23:48, 9 November 2018 (UTC)
- @PraiseMath:: I looked at your sandbox and helped with the formatting of the selected publications section. In the future, how you can do this with visual editor is by clicking "insert" and then choosing "template." If you type in "cite journal", the cite journal template comes up. Click "add template," and then you can start filling out the information of the template, such as author first and last name, year, journal title, volume and issue, and all that good stuff. If there are multiple authors or you need to provide more information about the article that isn't immediately available, you can click "add more information" to add more fields to the template. The nice thing about using the templates is, once you enter all the information and hit insert, all the formatting is done for you. The template automatically arranges the information in the right order with punctuation and italicizing in the right spots.
- A few more small things before you start moving your work: you don't need "Susan North Brown" to be "big." You can undo this in the visual editor by highlighting this text with your mouse, clicking the A with the underline on the toolbar, and then deselecting the "big" option. Another small thing to fix is the section headers. Headers should be sentence case instead of title case per the Wikipedia Manual of Style, so the "e" of Employment should be lowercase :)
- Also, thinking of our meeting on Wednesday, I just realized that there is an undo option in visual editor! "Undo" and "redo" are the two arrows in the upper left corner, so you can immediately undo mistakes as soon as they happen! I'm just used to doing the undo option from the "view history" section!
- As far as moving your work from the sandbox, there is a good resource here! I'll not be checking this page or my email over the weekend, but if you need help, keep leaving messages and I will answer them on Monday! Enwebb (talk) 02:46, 10 November 2018 (UTC)

Question from West African Pidgin English Page
Hi Elysia, I tried to tag you in a post on the talk page of this article, but it didn't work. Here's what I said: Question on citation or deletion My student @IsabelRMcN: has been working on this article for our ANTH 474 course included a citation for a piece of information on this page, but realized that it is an almost word for word copy of the original article. She wrote this in her edit summary - "found the citation used for this section and noticed that is was copied almost word for word, and not academic. Also noticed while looking at the magazine article that this may be better suited in the Jamaican Maroons page. Please let me know if I should delete it." Following up to make sure others see this and can comment - FYI @Elysia (Wiki Ed: Thanks! CESchreyer (talk) 05:37, 13 November 2018 (UTC)CESchreyer
Can you help my student figure this out? My sense is to delete the copied section, but would appreciate your feedback. Thanks. CESchreyer (talk) 05:41, 13 November 2018 (UTC)CESchreyer
- Hi @CESchreyer: it looks like part of the problem is a malformed ping. While pings show up as "@UserName", they are produced by use of a template. You use the template like this:
- {{ping | UserName}}. This produces the @UserName and notifies the user that they were pinged on a page. Usernames have to be typed exactly--you forgot the end parenthesis of my name in your attempt on the talk page :)
- I responded on the article talk page, but my answer was an unreserved yes, please remove copyvio from Wikipedia! Elysia (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:57, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks Elysia (Wiki Ed)! For letting me know what went wrong here and for the answer on the talk page. We deleted the section in class today. CESchreyer (talk) 01:48, 14 November 2018 (UTC)CESchreyer
Repairing references on Susan Brown page
This afternoon I have moved some material from my Sandbox to Susan Brown's Wikipedia page and I have done a bit of editing.
References 1 and 2 are the same and I can't figure out how to merge them. Reference 3 needs a date accessed and I can't seem to get there. PraiseMath 21:15, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
- @PraiseMath: hi, I think I fixed your ref issue. As far as adding access date, you can do that in visual editor. Click on the reference in its bracket at the end of the sentence, which should pull up the reference information. If you click "edit," you can add more information about the reference. "Source date" is the date that the information was published online. "URL access date" is the date that you read the information. I hope that helps! By the way, don't forget to sign your posts on talk pages, both article talk pages and user talk pages. You sign by typing 4 tildes (~~~~), wihch autofills your username and the time stamp! Elysia (Wiki Ed) (talk) 21:48, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
Thank you!! PraiseMath 21:56, 13 November 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by PraiseMath (talk • contribs) When I try to edit reference 2 and put a date of access I get no chance to do that -- I took a screen shot of the dilemma but I can't paste it here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PraiseMath (talk • contribs) 22:03, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
- @PraiseMath: the reference wasn't formatted correctly as a website, so visual editor got "confused" when you wanted to add an access date. I reformatted the reference and it should let you add an access date no-problem now! Elysia (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:52, 14 November 2018 (UTC)

- Hi PraiseMath, the citation template is a bit particular about how dates are formatted. For example, you have the access date for one reference as "November 16. 2018". If you replace the period with a comma, then the template will accept that date ("November 16, 2018"). Another acceptable usage would be "16 November 2018". Page mover granted
Hello, Elysia (Wiki Ed). Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, and move subpages when moving the parent page(s).
Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect
is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

Editing student sandboxes
Dear User:Elysia (Wiki Ed), I noticed that you've made some edits to at least one student sandbox in the class I'm working with. While I appreciate your efforts, these edits contradict that requirements of the assignment. I have reverted all edits that I've found thus far, as all work in student sandboxes should be from students only at this point. In the future, I recommend that you check with instructors before modifying student work to ensure that you are following the unique features of each individual assignment. No two assignments are the same. Happy to discuss this further. Best, --Jaobar (talk) 18:18, 7 December 2018 (UTC)

In a nutshell: I created a sandbox file called "User:Joebeeblebrox/sandbox/article edit draft", in which, I copy and pasted the original article that I was hoping to add to and then publish with three new sources and added information. In the folder/file, I plugged in all thast I wanted, but the whole format is weird and the original citations are not normal, and it took going through the citation template tool to get my new three sources looking normal. However, footnote links and everything are still all off. I really don't know how to take that sandbox and refit the current wiki with that addition. This is for a school project that I am really losing patience with and just need it to be done, or at least close to it. This whole wikiproject is sort of superfluous to my educational demands right now.
Please take a look at the folder and let me know if i'm even heading in the right direction or if I messed up beyond reconciliation: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Joebeeblebrox/sandbox/article_edit_draft
Thank you for your time and any help you can afford me. Thanks,
Joe

Mililani Trask
thank you for your feedback. I checked Mililani Trask's page and it looks like only the Family and Office of Hawaiian Affairs sections are still there and those are the sections I contributed to, not the ones that are no longer there.RacMell (talk) 20:44, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
Hi Elysia. I know you've given some direct feedback to Jennbasa on her Spotlight draft as have I. I continue to monitor this draft (and indeed several of the drafts from that class) - it's clear the editor has put in a lot of work and the topic is pretty clearly notable in my thinking. However, if the editor chooses to put it into mainspace as written I will make fairly substantial changes to help it comply better with Wikipedia standards. I'm happy to post some more feedback but as the last round by both of us has not been acknowledged wanted to ask your thoughts if this would be helpful before doing so. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 21:32, 11 December 2018 (UTC) Please ping me as I'm not watching this page
- @Barkeep49: thanks for the note. I'm watching this sandbox as well (and I just watchlisted all the other sandboxes in this class). The class appears to be wrapping up this week, and it is yet unclear if publishing the work is part of the students' assignment. If not, when I close out the class sometime this month, I will go through all the sandboxes and move suitable material to mainspace when possible, making any and all necessary content and stylistic changes to do so. Don't feel like you need to take more time to leave feedback if you don't feel like it's actually doing anything, though I appreciate that you've done so! Nancy Tuchman
Hi there, I'm working on editing my boss's wikipage and am new to Wikipedia, can you give me the guidelines for what is appropriate in that content box on the right? You just recently undid all my changes and I do have legitimate changes to make.

- Hey @Joebeeblebrox: nicely done! I know this assignment was frustrating to you at times, but I'm happy to see you overcame those initial barriers. BTW, I called you attention to something with the ping by typing {{ping|Joebeeblebrox}}. It shows up as @Joebeeblebrox. You can do it with any user to get their attention. Happy editing! Elysia (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:22, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for everything! {{ping|Elysia}} . i don't think i'm getting that last part right
- @Joebeeblebrox: haha it would work without the nowiki tags! I just did it so it wouldn't produce the actual ping and you would see how it looks. A ping to my name would look like "@Elysia (Wiki Ed):". You'll get there! Now that your class is over, if you have any interest in continuing to edit Wikipedia, it might interest you to find a WP:WikiProject to get involved with. There are lots of them (list here) that are places for people to work on similar topics, be it plants, animals, science, people, geography, and lots more. Take care, Elysia (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:35, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
Hello.
I need help with moving my article to the mainspace. I wrote the article and clicked publish. Now I'm looking at a guide that says I need to click the more button and then move it to the mainspace, but that button is not appearing. Is there something else I have to do to submit it/ publish it? It is not showing that my article is published when I look at the class page.

Hello.
Thank you for the advice! I am still not seeing the 'more' box to move the page. I see the "Read", "Edit", and "View History", but next is the "favorite" star, and then the search bar. And that's it. (I have a screenshot but it's not letting me include it).
Thanks!

Hello,
I need help with submitting the work in my sandbox for review. I do not have the button option in my sandbox that states, "Submit your draft for review." Can you please help me figure a way to do this?

Olivia Gatwood article
Hi Elysia. The student (from my SFSU class) working on the article has been composing it in her sandbox. When she went to transfer her draft - - which was peer reviewed by our WikiEd content expert (Shalor Toncray) - - the redirect prevented her from transferring her article. I removed the redirect and pasted in a section of the draft article to show her how to transfer her article. It is important that Catiekirk complete the WikiEdu project by publishing her article. Please see her talk page for Shalor's feedback etc. and it would be great if you could guide her through the non-redirect/article transfer/publication process. At this point, despite her assiduous labor, she is both frustrated and confused. Thanks. Profhanley (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 23:08, 18 December 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Profhanley - I'll review the draft and leave some notes on Catiekirk's talk page. Offhand I think that one potential reason my colleague reverted it was because the article is undersourced - I'm concerned that there isn't enough sourcing to firmly establish Gatwood's notability. I'll see what sourcing I can find. There are some other things I noticed, which I'll include in my notes on her talk page. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 14:43, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
- @Profhanley and Shalor (Wiki Ed): ah, I also have a student in a class working to create an article on Olivia Gatwood, how coincidental. That is why there is a Draft:Olivia Gatwood article, which I was referring to. My apologies for assuming you were related to that course, and sorry to Catiekirk for the frustrations of this assignment. Make sure that when you move an article that you have multiple independent sources to establish notability, as this is the issue that the other student was running into and why the article was moved to draftspace. Good luck! Elysia (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:11, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
- @Elysia (Wiki Ed) and Shalor (Wiki Ed): OK. 'Tho, Catie's sandbox page seems better-sourced than Draft:Olivia Gatwood, so let's hope she gets into the draft and improves it.
