RE - that abuse report I made

Have a look at this. Our friend has definitely been at this for over a year - that andthe most recent IP have the same location and ISP.

WPIM drive

Hi Ebe123, I have a bit of a strange request. I am about to go over 200 on the drive. I'm wondering if it's ok for me to get the Commons Ambassador Barnstar instead of the Special Barnstar because I already have that in my collection (twice). Any chance of abuse response action from ISP?

You posted at AN inviting people to use Abuse Response. I don't know if this is something they could help with: we have a prolific socker, see WP:Sockpuppet investigations/JAT6634, a 15-year-old boy who has now created well over 150 socks, sometimes several a day, and uses them to make "articles" about fake football teams and matches where he and his friends are captain, top scorer, etc. An approach to his school has had no effect - from the timings he edits from home. He is on a British ISP (TalkTalk/Carphone Warehouse Broadband Services) with dynamic addresses, and they range too widely for a rangeblock to be possible, but checkuser AGK (talk)has said he is willing to release IP details for an abuse report.

Do you think there is any likelihood that TalkTalk would be interested or take any action? I guess we would need to make a report immediately after one of his bursts of activity, so that checkuser could provide details of the exact timing of edits.

In Response to the images and media drive

This image was tagged byKumioko as part of the aforementioned drive, and I summarily reversed that change having uploaded the image. I am a little puzzled, as the image in question is an album cover meant to be used in the article on the English Wikipedia, and as far as I know isn't allowed to be used on just any article. Transferring such files to Commons would allow for their use in any location on Wikipedia, if even approved there.

To top it off, I've now been told I must select a new name before the image is moved to Commons NEway, to "a name you may not like".

I don't see that this image meets Commons requirements for free-use images. Further, putting images on Commons can actually be a hassle for image use on Wikipedia; while an image can be referred to easily within one Wiki itself, that does not seem to be the case when the file is located on Commons. I may be mistaken on this, but in my view this drive is actually not helpful for these concerns. It seems like some people will tag just about any image they want whether it's eligible or not. Am I mistaken here? Has code been rewritten to make image inclusion between Wikis easier? And is there REALLY a problem having images on individual Wikis, particularly images that are single-use under restrictions such as this one?

The tag wasn't to be moved to commons, not for the drive even. That tag was to rename the image since there's a lot of similar names. ich Moving images to commons may be troublesome, but could be used on any Wikimedia page, which occures about 1 hour after moving. The imageFile:Heavenandhell.jpg is absolutly not eligible. The code has been made easyer. Not that much as a problem but as mentioned before, its better to have it there globally instead of localy. ~~Ebe123~~ (+) ^talk

I suppose that the script must be running, since it still works on image description pages that are pulled from Wikimedia Commons; that said, I don't generally see it used on en.wikipedia (probably under the assumption that editors here are likely to speak English). Screencast for new NPP tool design?

Hello. This is Ian Baker. I'm a developer over at the Wikimedia Foundation.

tl;dr: We’re designing a much-improved UI for NPP tools, and we’re seeking guidance—and hopefully, screencasts of your NPP workflow—from expert New Page Patrollers like yourself. We’re asking for this so we can see (literally) what actions you take during patrolling which could be better supported through software.

I'm contacting you because, according to our statistics, you're a particularly active New Page Patroller on the English Wikipedia. Here at the WMF, we're working on a design for a much-improved NPP user interface. We hope that it will (as part of a larger strategy) address many outstanding issues in the article creation process, while also providing a more modern, streamlined and efficient UX for patrollers.

To do this successfully, we are relying upon the guidance of our most experienced patrollers. I'm sending this message to the ten most prolific patrollers in 2011, and a few other people who've been participating actively in this discussion.

Specifically, I'm hoping you can take a few minutes to record a screencast of yourself doing NPP. We're looking for a 10-15 minute session, but more is okay if you feel it's needed. Ideally, you'd first walk us through your process, explaining as you go, and then switch to doing NPP at your usual pace.

Our preliminary examination of this feature has shown that many experienced patrollers have evolved their own specially-tailored interface and workflow, often using external tools and plugins. Making an interface that works well will require understanding those tools and the motivation for using them. However, even if you haven't done that, observing your NPP technique will still be valuable, giving us insights into what factors inform your judgement, how you use the existing interface, and how long NPP generally takes an expert patroller such as yourself.

If you'd like to help, great! I've posted a set of instructions over at the relevant thread on the Article Creation Workflow talk page, which should get you everything you need to know. If something's missing or you have a question, post it there. That's also the place to go if you want to learn more about the reasoning behind this request.

I understand that people have differing expectations of privacy with regard to their own computer and voice. Therefore, you can either post this screencast publicly (place a link in the talk page above) or if you'd prefer, send it to me privately at ian@wikimedia.org.

Very small minded of Ebe123 to revert barnstar awards just because A gave it instead of B. If barnstar awards are to be reverted it should be because they were not deserved. That does not seem to be the case here. What was required was a message to Quadell and asking Drilnoth to review Quadell's awards and correct any aberrations. Ebe123, I see you have alsoopposed my candidacy for Wikimedia stewart due, in part, to this situation. Can I ask you to reconsider? Giving out barnstars has nothing to do with potential steward duties, and I hope this hasn't become personal for you. I worry that you may drive away good contributors to these sorts of drives by being vindictive in this way. I do want to participate in future drives, but I can see how some might pass on the drive simply to avoid dealing with politics and pettiness. An IP like that that has such a large block log doesn't necessarily need to be currently blocked, especially if their patterns continue immediately after unblock. If it can be reasonably assumed that they are going to be blocked soon, then the case should proceed. Moreso given that this is a school, the school should be notified so they can deal with the issue on their side, as school blocks often prevent legitimate anonymous contributors. User page problem

Hi Ebe123,

It seems that your user page is displaying images without links to their description pages (because the entire image is covered up with another <div>. More than one image on your rotation is published under a license that requires attribution, yet this requirement is currently not being satisfied. I'm sure that you agree with me that violating copyright law is unethical and highly undesirable.

I trust that this issue will be immediately addressed, either by removing the images whose respective licenses require attribution, by including attribution links or information for each image displayed, or simply by removing that feature of your user page altogether.

Honestly, I think that new users don't participate as much since they just are intimidated since they don't know the policies and that Wikipedia looks scary. They don't know what it does. The new notices fix the intimidation and scaryness by just a little. A better motive would be to personilize and teach the user what to do and all. Incubator interview

Hi, in regards to the incubator interview, I would appreciate if you could help answer the following questions:

1. You mention that there's lots going on. Where can I find a list of these (or links)?

   There's no list, and I daid that lots is going on like strategy planning, theWikimediaIncubator extension that is getting developed by SPQRobin.

2. You suggested SPQRobin for the interview. Are there any other people that could be suitable for the interview as well?

   I suppose any incubator admin including me.

3. When was the last language deployment, and which language? Any links to this?

   The last was wiktionary oriya (or.wiktionary) (Wt/or), but there's a wiki where the developers are creating it. That one is Wikipedia Sepedi (Northern Sotho) (nso.wikipedia) (Wp/nso).

WP:UWTEST update

Peer Review

Hello. Firstly, thank you for your opinions on my RfA. But frankly, I find anti-vandalism really boring. I realize that I am at home only in editing articles, creating them, formatting them etc. So perhaps I may not stand for Adminship again.

Coming to much more important maters, I along with a handful of other editors have almost finished up the Ra.One article. We are strongly considering it for a GAN, but I would like to be sure of such a move being worth it. I want to iron out all the possible flaws so that the article doesn't need to unnecessarily drag on the GA review process. Hence, a peer review for it has been set up. I request you to take up the review and highlight any points of improvement in the article that will ultimately push it to GA status, and later FA. I personally feel the article is better than the likes of Avatar, and certainly much ahead of any Indian film article till date, but that's just me and it may not be true. I will be much obliged if you could take up the review tomorrow, as the review has been up for 4 days and has gone unnoticed. The backlog is huge. With this, a bit of it will clear as well :D. WP:CVU page deletion

Hi, I noticed you asked to the WP:CVU page to be deleted so you could move over a new version of the page. Ordinarily when this is done the new page is simply copied over (especially if it only has one author) so that the page history is preserved. Is there a particular reason page deletion is needed, or can we restore the old page then copy the new design over? I've temporarily fully protected the page to avoid any further additions to the page history until this is figured out, so I'd appreciate a quick response if possible. Thanks! WP:CVU Discussion

Hey Ebe. Please remember that we are only at the point of discussing what needs to be done with the project. We're not at the point of actually doing anything. We haven't even reached the point of a final proposal that would be ratified by CVU and presented to the community. There is still a lot of work to be done before we consider changing the page, listing divisions, administration, etc. If you have an idea, post it.
