Talk:Fortifications at Gla
Untitled
[edit]Great job on the rough draft. I think it is very informative and interesting overall. The only adjustments I would make is putting in link to the Mycenaean Period or adding the exact date so readers specifically know what time you are referencing. Also adding a link to Cyclopean Masonry might be helpful for people who have no clue what Cyclopean Masonry is yet want to quickly get updated about it. There was a lot of great references I would just add a "Reference" header to separate the references from the rest of the article. This is a great way to clean up the appearance of the draft a little more.
"Gla was one of multiple fortified sites around Lake Copais in the Mycenaean period, there is evidence they were used for draining, protecting, and other functions related to the lake and the surrounding agricultural area." This sentence is a run on maybe it could be written, "Gla was one of multiple fortified sites around Lake Copias during the Mycenaean period. There is evidence these sites were used fro draining, protecting, and other functions related to the lake and the surrounding area."

Hi Emily! Great job on the article so far! Some minor things that I noticed that could make it better though are that a couple of our statements in your second paragraphs aren't cited. Also, it might be organizationally better if you separate your paragraphs into different sub-topics or headers in your article, just so it's easier for a reader to parse out whats happening. -Robert Yancey Rob6820 (talk) 21:38, 15 November 2017 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Emily - this is a great start! Your peer-reviewer and Robert have both left you some good suggestions, and here are a few of my own for how to improve your article:
- As mentioned by Robert, consider breaking your description up into different sections. Perhaps a section on the walls, a section on the gates, and a section on the overall function (palace or military or administrative use) of the site. This will also help give your article more heft. As currently written, it will be flagged as a "stub" article by Wikipedia.
- If possible, add a photo of Gla. If you can't find one within copyright, add in a comparison image from another site with Cyclopean fortifications.
- The map if helpful, but it doesn't actually include Gla on it. Can you find a different map that does?
