MotD: New Year's Eve&Day + Wikipedia's birthday
[edit]Hi Dipankan001!
Please, consider to give your opinion on this nomination for the New Year's Day, and, if you can, check the nomination for the eleventh birthday of Wikipedia (it's just 1-2 noms below).
Thank you, and a Merry Christmas and a New Year of health, happiness, peace, love, and prosperity to you and your family. –pjoef (talk • contribs) 10:20, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for the nice image for Wikipedia's eleventh birthday, which is on the 15th of January (if I remember correctly). I'll add your image to the special nomination.
May I take this opportunity to wish you a very happy birthday, in advance, and a fantabulous 2012. –pjoef (talk • contribs) 14:37, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
Fixed! It was a line break (after "...every new year", and before "find you a better man.")
To force a line break within Headings (all levels), you can use the <BR />
tag: "...every new year <br />
find you a better man." It produces:
"...every new year
find you a better man."
All the best. –pjoef (talk • contribs) 08:01, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification
[edit]Hi. When you recently edited Viking Apocalypse (TV Series), you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Bengali and 2-D (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

"Blindly revert"
[edit]I did not blindly revert anything.
- Tom and Jerry are copyrighted characters. Just because you found toys of them in a store in Kolkata and took a photo of them does not mean that the photo you took is free. Someone still owns the copyright to Tom and Jerry, and someone most definitely owns the artistic rights to the plush toy design. The photo is not allowed on Wikipedia or the Wikimedia Commons because it is a derivative work.
- I may be wrong, but the photo on Pantaloon Retail India is also a derivative work, but I will let the deletion debate continue.
- And your photo of a random grassy area in the middle of India is a poor quality photo that does not need to be titled "Rural area.jpg". There are plenty of other photos of "rural areas" on rural area that your photo is superfluous, particularly because of its poor quality.

MOTD
[edit]Hi, I noticed you have archived a motto today. Thank you for your contributions although only mottos on the Specials page are usually placed on a specific date. Normal archiving procedures are to place normal mottos on the next available date in order. Please see the Schedule page, looking up January 2012.
On a more minor note, I hope it was okay that I fixed some punctuation mistakes in your edit notice. Simply south...... having large explosions for 5 years 20:16, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

MotD Closures
[edit]First of all, I would like to thank you for the help you have bee giving at MotD! I see that Simply South has said something about this above, but I think that I could expand a bit with relation to closing nominations. Usually, we try to wait until there are at least three suppoorts for a nomination before passing it, or whatever sems like a suitable majority if there are opposes in addition to the supports. In addition, nominations are to stay open for two weeks before a decision is made. I don't think that, with the ones you have closed, that would have changed the outcome, but it is still good to give nominations the full two weeks so that everyone has time to comment. At any rate, I want to thank you once again; it's great having you help out! ~~ Hi878 (Come shout at me!) 23:46, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Don2poster.jpeg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Don2poster.jpeg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 05:49, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

Images of IIM Lucknow
[edit]Hi, All the images I uploaded are photographed by me using my mobile. Can you kindly explain me why have you marked the images for deletion? All of them are entirely my work and I am ready to release any kind of license. Please let me know what I should do Anbu121 (talk me) 11:45, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
- Only non-free images are allowed in Wikipedia. Otherwise, you can upload to Wikimedia Commons from here. Even if you have entirely created the work, you cannot upload it to Wikipedia. Under Criteria for speedy deletion, this image falls for deletion. I hope this helped you. Dipankan In the woods? 11:51, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
- I released the images under Creative commons Share Alike 3.0. But you have marked them for deletion stating that they are fair use images. Moreover, I am not able to find where Wikipedia:CSD#Files states that free images cannot be uploaded in Wikipedia. Can you kindly clarify? --Anbu121 (talk me) 12:17, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
- Let me make this clearer. It is absolutely not recommended that you upload a image to Wikipedia that can be replaceable, so that Wikimedia Commons can be a central repository of free images and multimedia. Free images should be uploaded to Wikimedia commons, as I said before. See Wikipedia:Upload/Own work. Dipankan In the woods? 12:26, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
- Well, You could have chosen to move the files to Wikimedia commons. I am surprised that you chose to tag it for speedy deletion even after knowing that it is a free image. --Anbu121 (talk me) 13:11, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
- Well, I didn't know how to move files to Commons. You may move those files there. Dipankan In the woods? 14:21, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Hello, I just noticed this discussion you were having. I think there's been a misunderstanding here. It is in fact quite legitimate to upload free images on the English Wikipedia. It is true that it is recommended to do it on Commons instead, but editors are still welcome to do it here too. The images in question look like they are genuinely self-made and validly licensed, so they are legitimate (and thanks to Anbul21 for uploading them!) – The "replaceable image" tag you used is for a different class of cases: non-free images that could be replaced with other, free ones. For valid free images that would be even more useful on Commons than here, the {{move to commons}} tag is a proper method of marking them. Fut.Perf. ☼ 14:34, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
- Yes- you're correct- I have removed the speedy's. Dipankan In the woods? 14:37, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you both of you for the discussion. I have moved the images to Commons.--Anbu121 (talk me) 21:26, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
Harassment?
[edit]So are you going to explain the message you put on my page or link my edit that you don't agree with or just leave it at that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.1.199.32 (talk) 00:29, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
- Because you had made vandalism, I warned you with the appropriate template; I don't see that I've harassed you at any moment. And more over, I follow WP:HAR strictly, and why should I harass somebody. I have also removed "SERIOUS INTERNET BUSINESS" phrase from my talk page as it is also a vandalism. And remember a thing carefully- No personal attacks, please. Dipankan In the woods? 11:12, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

Regarding File:TTIS logo.jpg
[edit]Hi there. Your request for the file to be renamed has been declined. We absolutely cannot change the format by a move. In order to upload the new version, you need to upload the new version as a new file, and then place the old version under the old name up for deletion.
